This position is located in Katmai National Park and Preserve in the Maintenance Division.

The typical season for this position is April - September, but varies during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, and/or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2025.

Although the official duty station is Lake and Peninsula County, you will be duty stationed at Brooks Camp, AK. Selectees may be moved between duty stations within park boundaries.

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

Selectee learns proper methods and processes for water systems status, storage levels and when water conservation measures should be implemented. Is responsible for seasonal start up and shut down of the various well houses' holding tanks and distribution systems throughout Brooks Camp. Operator will winterize systems thoroughly to prevent the need for extensive repairs during the following years' start up. This will include a proper blowdown of all distribution lines to each individual cabin with an air compressor, followed by a charging of each line with RV antifreeze/glycol.

• Oversees collecting water samples and keeping associated records organized.
• Collects and coordinates the delivery of monthly coliform and nitrate samples and records laboratory test results.
• Oversees the annual pumping of septic sludge and vault toilet sludge, treatment, and disposal.
• Performs plumbing related duties including planning, layout, and routing of piping systems specifically related to the water and wastewater fields.
• Installs and repairs different types of piping including ductile iron, copper, galvanized steel, asbestos, PVC, and cast iron as well as transition couplings and valves associated with these materials.
• Rodding sewer lines, repairing various pumps, and general plumbing maintenance, which includes sewage lift station repairs and wastewater collection systems.
• Maintains and troubleshoots systems ranging from large primary voltages to small millivolt/milliamp digital circuit boards, and touch screen equipment. Must be knowledgeable of all wire gauges and sizes, and their controls. Must be capable of applying all facets of electrical and instrumentation ability associated with the fields of water and wastewater maintenance.
• Uses technical manuals, blueprints, drawings, and sketches to assign and/or complete work orders.
• Performs minor maintenance to buildings, housing and grounds using the following building maintenance skills: hydraulic repair, plumbing, painting, and carpentry.

These positions are located in Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park in the Maintenance Division.

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Preservation, rehabilitation, construction, repair of, and installation to items such as framework, floor joist, rafters, roof sheathing, sub-flooring, decking, framing, doors, windows, etc., using a variety of historic and non-historic materials such as, wood timbers, beams, plywood, particle board, sheet rock, paneling tile, etc.
• Measure, cut, construct, install, repair, and modify wood, composite, and wood substitute items.
• Apply standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds.

These positions are located in Denali National Park and Preserve in the Ranger Division.

The typical season for these positions is March through September, but varies during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, and funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: March 2025

The duties of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

• Leads extended, high altitude mountain patrols on Denali and elsewhere in the Alaska Range, accompanied by appropriately trained Volunteers in Parks (VIPs).
• Performs or directs search and rescue operations involving high altitude technical climbing, use of emergency medical techniques, coordination of helicopter and fixed wing aircraft, coordination of other resources from numerous agencies and sources.
• Performs aerial and ground backcountry patrols to enforce park regulations. Ground patrols involve backpacking in winter and summer. Winter travel also may involve use of skis, snow machine, or dog sled. The summer travel involves small river craft such as packraft and raft.
• Operates a visitor contact station and provides information and interpretation of the park to the general public, issues park use permits and provides expert advice and assistance to mountaineers heading into the park from Talkeetna. Provides liaison between the NPS and park concessionaires and business use licensees.
• Participates in the planning of district operations by providing input to supervisor regarding park operations, needs, requirements, etc.
• Gathers, compiles, and reports mountaineering and resource management data. Drafts replies to mountaineering related correspondence and maintains patrol reports. Investigates accidents and prepares accident and incident reports.

DUTIES:

• Perform full food services for 50-60 teens and staff at the YCC facility including: dining hall management; food preparation; cooking; serving and replenishing food; cleaning facilities, equipment, and utensils; cleaning/stocking tables in dining areas; and handling foods and supplies.
• Plan and execute menus for well-balanced meals to serve YCC program participants. Research and prepare meals for participants with special food allergies or other dietary restrictions such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or vegan.

Duties:

• Serves as a Crew Leader for a residential, overnight Youth Conservation Corps (YCC) program for 15-18 year olds including camping four nights per week.
• Responsible for the security, safety, and control of teen enrollees at all times on duty in a shared community living situation.
• Provides resource education lessons to enrollees using the Yellowstone YCC Leadership Curriculum at least 1 hour per day.
• Responsible for establishing the spike camps, organizing cooking and clean-up, pitching tents, driving youth crews, counseling enrollees, and coordinating work projects.
• Responsible for leading teen work crews on a variety of land management projects using short and long-handled hand tools, chainsaws, and other standard construction equipment.

Four positions are anticipated to be filled from this Job Opportunity Announcement:

• One position will be filled at the GS 05 grade level, with an annual salary range of $42,151 - $54,793 per year.
• One position will be filled at the GS 06 grade level, with an annual salary range of $46,987 - $61,085 per year.

The Wawona District is a true all-hazard/traditional ranger working environment that includes resource-orientated law enforcement, emergency medical services, search and rescue, wildland and structural fire, boundary and wilderness patrols, and participation in park-wide incidents. The primary area of responsibility includes the Mariposa Grove of Giant Sequoias, Badger Pass Ski Area, Glacier Point, and Wawona. The duty station is in the southern one-third of the park and is within reasonable driving distance to full-service areas including Oakhurst (40 minutes) and Fresno (75 minutes). The community of Wawona includes the Wawona Hotel and Golf Course, grocery and gift stores, a gas station, a K-6 elementary school, and approximately 300 houses of intermixed federal and private ownership. Residents include unaffiliated private citizens, NPS and concessions employees, and vacation renters. There are also two 100+ site campgrounds in the district.

As a Supervisory Park Ranger you will lead daily operations and direct the completion of collateral duties. You will supervise GL-9 permanent and seasonal law enforcement rangers as well as non-commissioned staff and park volunteers. You will conduct and supervise the detection of criminal activity, investigation of criminal violations, and custodial arrests. You may prepare and execute warrants, interview witnesses, and detain suspects. You will ensure the completion of comprehensive written reports. You will conduct and/or supervise gathering of law enforcement, security, and intelligence information relating to the park, its facilities, events, mission, or visitors.

A supervisory Park Ranger also conducts detection, investigation, apprehension, and prosecution activities under applicable laws, rules, and regulations enacted to ensure the protection and safe use of National parks resources. Conducts field training, emergency medical services, special response, technical rescue, and helicopter rescue activities may also be conducted. You will educate, interpret, and inform visitors about resources, conservation, laws, and regulations. Supervisory Rangers conduct program management and provide direct and indirect leadership and operational direction for the visitor and resource protection staff at the district level.

You will set work goals and ensure all employees receive required training in a timely manner; identify operational requirements and make recommendations to your supervisor regarding programming, budgeting, training, administration, and evaluation of operations; and schedule patrols to maximize visitor contact with special consideration to problem areas. You will provide, supervise and lead complex law enforcement, all hazard, emergency medical, and search and rescue operations for park visitors and residents. In addition, you will participate in all aspects of employee supervision including performance planning and appraisals, employee recognition, and employee counseling.

The position to which you will be appointed is subject to a financial disclosure reporting requirement and you will be required to complete a new entrant Confidential Financial Disclosure Report (OGE Form 450) within 30 days of your appointment.

The major duties of the Conservator (Furniture/Wooden Artifacts) position include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Provide technical and specialized assistance to the Supervisory Curator.
• Responsible for determining the nature and extent of treatment needed for an object.
• Carries out treatment procedures for restoration or preservation of an object.
• Prepares technical reports.
• Manage contract conservators; including determining what treatment is needed, identifying the correct contractor, and direct, evaluate, and accept their work.

This position is duty stationed at Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, Ganado AZ. Position will serve all three parks; which includes Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site, Canyon de Chelly National Monument and Navajo National Monument. Day travel between Hubbell Trading Post NHS, Canyon de Chelly and Navajo National Monument is required on a routine basis 4-8 days per month. On occasion overnight trips to parks may be necessary as well as 4-8 days of overnight backcountry work depending on projects.

This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years, or more based on any changes to regulations governing the number of years term appointments may last, without further competition. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

The National Park Service retains the right to extend the duration of this appointment after selection and/or appointment, based on changes to the regulation governing the number of years term appointments may last. This change, which may be made at the agency's sole discretion and without further competition, shall not be construed or interpreted as the granting of a right to a selectee or employee to such an extension. No extension to a term appointment shall be granted to a selectee/employee to an amount of time that exceeds the maximum number of years authorized under any present or current regulation, unless such regulation expressly allows such action.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Identifies research needs and data gaps and develops project proposals or statements of work.

Career Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career Appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. For the first year you will be in pay status from mid-February through mid-December. You will be in non-pay status from mid-December through beginning of February. After the first-year management may change the service agreement. This is based on operational needs and funding; you may work for a minimum of 13 pay periods and a maximum of 25 pay periods and you will be in a non-pay status for the remaining 1-13 pay periods each year.

This is a secondary-administrative law enforcement position under the special retirement provisions of 5 U.S. C. 8336 (c) (CSRS) and 5 U. S. C. 8412 (d) (FERS). PLEASE NOTE: Applicants may meet qualification requirements but may not be eligible for special retirement coverage. If such an applicant is selected, they will be placed in the regular retirement system. To be eligible for Secondary retirement coverage under CSRS, an employee must transfer directly (without a break in service exceeding 3 days) from a primary position to a secondary position.
