Job Description Summary:

The Executive Director of the Samuel Merritt University (SMU) Health Sciences Simulation Center (HSSC) is responsible for SMU’s overall operations related to simulation-based, immersive learning on all campuses. This entails capacity/expansion planning, resolution of workflow issues, quality assurance, and effective use of resources including technologies, faculty, and staff, and includes simulation-specific matters at the Sacramento, San Mateo, and Fresno campuses.

The Director works closely with SMU’s academic leadership and designated faculty representatives to assure effective integration and use of simulation-based learning in the curricula of all academic programs of the university.

The Director also works with administrators and educators affiliated with SMU’s clinical partners requesting services of the HSSC. The director will maintain collaborative relationships with SMU’s Faculty Development professionals, the Library, Academic Instruction and Innovation, Information Technology, Institutional Effectivess and Institutional Research in planning for ongoing simulation development, use and evaluation. It is expected that the director will provide leadership in curricular innovation and the development of a program of research related to simulation effectiveness.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Supervision & Management:

• Direct reports include Operations Manager, Simulation Educators on all campuses, and Applied Science & Education Research Methodologist.
• Faculty recruitment and hiring, annual performance reviews, and disciplinary processes as required for all campuses.
• Establishes an annual operating and capital budget for each campus’ simulation centers.
• Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by meeting budget targets and prioritizing expenses.
• Oversight of processes and policies that are related to attaining and maintaining accreditation of the simulation center by the national accrediting body of simulation centers in the United States.
• Oversight of processes and policies related to ensuring that the educational activities and services provided by HSSC faculty/staff comply with accreditation standards of all levels, e.g., regional accreditation, state board/licensing bodies, specialty accreditation organizations of academic disciplines represented at SMU.
• Ensure effective and efficient operations, capacity and workflow planning, and center staff/faculty development
• Accountable for all HSSC service outcomes and continuous quality improvement.
• Ensures proper scheduling and staffing of the HSSC to meet the demands of the Academic Programs, community partners, and tours.

Leadership:

• Oversee the implementation and continual reassessment of the department’s mission, vision, principles, and strategic plan.
• Ensure the HSSC’s strategic plan is in alignment with the University’s goals.
• Serve as ex officio member of the Academic Leadership Team and the Information Technology Advisory Group (ITAG).
• Collaborate with all SMU entities to advance knowledge and skills in the use of simulation-based learning.
• Collaborate with SMU instructional designers and representatives in the Academic Affairs Division to establish instructional design methods and standards, teaching, and learning support systems.
• Promote teamwork and collaboration by applying TeamSTEPPSâ tools and strategies.
• Develops plans for research related to the use of simulation in education and support collaborative research across Academic Programs.
• Actively seeks revenue-generating opportunities.
• Continually assesses all services, identifies problems, and utilizes data to analyze and propose innovative approaches for solutions.
• Oversees center accreditations, including but not limited to the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
• Prepares and submits annual reports for the Provost of the state of the HSSC.  The report includes annual accomplishments, challenges, utilization, assessment data, and progress toward meeting the HSSC strategic plan.
• Participates in committees, task forces, and other work groups as expected of an academic leader at SMU.

Education:

• Ensure simulation learning activities are successfully implemented across key stakeholders (students and faculty of all SMU academic programs on all campuses, external customers having an established relationship with HSSC).
• Lead ongoing evaluation of simulation teaching strategies and ensure they are in alignment with best practice standards.
• Collaborate with the Simulation Educators to create policies and procedures to
• Ensure the Simulation Educators are following the HSSC protocols for simulation development, implementation, and evaluation. 
• Remains current with new trends and best practices and incorporates them into the HSSC education operations practices and programs.
• Assist in faculty, staff, and healthcare systems development in the use of simulation-based learning.

Position Summary: The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) Program Director is a regular ranked faculty member of the School of Nursing who is responsible for the oversight of the PMHNP program for all SMU campuses. The Director reports to the Associate Dean of Graduate Nursing Program. The Director is responsible for the development, oversight, and day to day operations of the PMHNP program, including curricular regulation and accreditation compliance, clinical site development, faculty development, and interaction with students.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Major Areas of responsibilities include but not limited to:

Administration (50%)

General Management

• Develops and manages the PMHNP program in conjunction with university and graduate leadership, and program faculty. 
• Ensures that the PMHNP program complies with all regulation and CCNE accreditation requirements.
• Works in conjunction with the CoN Clinical Coordination Team (CCT) to identify and develop appropriate PMH clinical practice sites and opportunities for students, including telemedicine.
• Provides consultation to the CCT regarding dates, deadlines, submission and return of required forms that are essential to student placements in clinical site.
• Serves as supervisor for all program faculty and preceptors.
• Recommends changes in University and School of Nursing policies and procedures as needed.
• Authors reports (e.g. program evaluation, contributions to accreditation) as related to the PMHNP program.
• Provides input to budget formation related to the PMHNP program.
• Serves as an excellent example of customer service for coordinators, faculty, and students.
• Reviews survey data and identifies action steps to implement changes in support of continuous program quality improvement.
• Attends university ceremonies and events that are related to the PMHNP program.

Students

• Oversees PMHNP student recruitment and admission.
• Oversees the development and implementation of student program orientation including didactic and clinical courses; processes, procedures, expectations, and consequences.
• Facilitates informal resolutions to student disputes after course faculty and coordinators have intervened.
• Communicates issues regarding student performance to program administrators on an ongoing, basis.

Faculty

• Oversees the hiring of qualified faculty.
• Oversees faculty course assignment.
• Oversees faculty development.
• Completes annual faculty evaluation for PMHNP faculty.

Clinical Practice and or scholarship (20%)

• Maintains clinical competency and currency by engaging in practice as a PMHNP.
• Serves as clinical preceptor for PMHNP students as appropriate.

Teaching (30%) *

• Creates a dynamic, learner-centered environment that uses a variety of teaching methods based on educational theory and evidence-based teaching and clinical practices that support the diverse learning needs of the student population.
• Models reflective and critical thinking and serves as a coach and mentor for students; confers with them on their progress and assists them in the development of learning plans to facilitate successful achievement of course objectives.
• Maintains and enhances competence in subjects being taught.
• Confers with colleagues to assure the integrity of the courses across programs and the curriculum as a whole.
• Prepares and reviews written examinations, papers, and student projects; supervises independent study projects as needed and evaluates learner performance in both the classroom and clinical settings.
• Notifies Course Manager of at-risk students or unusual occurrences.
• Documents student progress on appropriate forms.

*Teaches a minimum of 216 hours in an academic year (8 didactic units).

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

• Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP), eligible for licensure in California
• Nationally board certified as a PMHNP.
• Earned doctorate in nursing (DNP, PhD, DNSc, DNS, EdD).
• At least three years of experience in advanced practice nursing.
• At least two years of progressive experience in teaching in graduate nursing.
• Experience with online educational delivery preferred.
• Experience in academic administration preferred.

The Region Director Clinical Ethics establishes the structure and processes for Ethics Committees and Ethics Consultation teams throughout the Peaks Region and works toward full implementation of Proactive Integrative Ethics. The Region Director provides on call support when needed to all Care Sites in the Peaks Region for complex situations.

• In collaboration with the chairs of the care site ethics committees, assess the needs of each Ethics Committee, and develop and deliver a structured plan to educate and equip Ethics Committees and Consultation Teams to function with a high degree of skill and autonomy.

• Continue to build consistency in the structure and delivery of Clinical Ethics throughout the Peaks Region.

• 24-hour availability in providing support to Ethics Committees is required, as well as periodic coverage for the Region Vice President Ethics and Church Relations.

• Round with ICU teams and other high utilization care teams providing education and assistance in implementing Proactive Integrative Ethics.

• Provide education, seminars, materials, and presentations to nursing, medical and support staff, residency programs, and other identified groups on Clinical Ethics and Proactive Integrative Ethics.

• Be accountable for compliance with the Ethical and Religious Directives for Health Care Services.

• Assess and develop a plan for proactive integrative ethics support and education in the ambulatory (clinic) setting.

• Support and provide presentations and training in collaboration with the Formation programs developed and offered by the Formation department.

 

Minimum Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Ethics or equivalent education, required

• Doctoral degree, preferred

• Clinical health care ethics experience, required. Along with demonstrated evidence of understanding and ability to represent and apply the moral teachings of the Catholic Church to clinical ethics matters.

Excellent presentation skills are required with fluency in developing electronic presentations. Proficiency in collaboration and networking skills are required. The Administrative Director of Medical Staff Services is responsible for the development, strategy, and ongoing efficiency of the Medical Staff Services Department at OU Health. Provides leadership support and oversight for improving and standardizing Medical Staff Services and provider enrollment processes across the OU Health enterprise. Oversees the medical staff credentialing and privileging processes, including initial/recredentialing and appointment/reappointment processes for physicians and advance practice professionals (APPs) pursuant to the medical staff bylaws, rules and regulations, and policies (“MS governing documents”), including delegated credentialing processes and policies for OU Health Partners. Ensures compliance is maintained with MS governing documents, health plan delegation agreements, applicable accreditation standards: The Joint Commission (TJC), National Committee on Quality Assurance (NCQA), federal and state laws and regulations, including CMS. • Responsible for establishing, contributing to, and maintaining continuity in the planning, development and implementation of standards and documents applicable to the medical staff organization and delegated credentialing. 
• Reviews and confirms acceptance of all pre-delegation agreements, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and ability to meet the payer’s expectations related to delegated credentialing – routine reporting, oversight reviews, ongoing monitoring, etc.   Remain current on federal CMS enrollment requirements and maintain up-to-date authorized official and practice locations on group contracts.
• Responsible for coordination of OU College of Medicine’s Resident Council, providing administrative support and leadership to assist residents in developing a working relationship with OU Health.  Acts as a liaison between residents, senior administration and medical staff to address issues appropriately.
• Responsible for the department’s goals, key performance indicators (KPIs), objectives, budget creation, and compliance.
• Be responsive to health plan inquiries regarding provider status, access, and directories.
• Leads, develops, coaches, and effectively manages the MSSD team to ensure deliverables and performance metrics are met.  Works collaboratively with the Manager of the department to develop the team to accomplish results through training, performance management, and recognition.  Supports continuing education of MSSD team.
• Leads cross-functional project teams to effectively create and implement medical staff services process improvements.
• Understands the strategic opportunities and challenges faced by the organization in improving the value of credentialing activities as well as other activities in the Medical Staff Services Department. 
• Is a champion for process improvement and is able to lead a team through change and ensure that the capabilities are in place for the team to effectively adapt to changing workflow and processes.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree in related field of study.  Master’s degree preferred.

Experience: 6+ years professional work experience, including at least 3 or more years in credentialing management in a supervisory, lead, or project management role.  TJC organizational experience preferred.  Knowledge of NCQA and TJC ambulatory standards preferred.      

License(s)/Certification(s)/Registration(s) required:

NAMSS certification as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional in Medical Staff Management (CPMSM) or achievement of certification within 18 months of hire.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Detailed working knowledge of the hospital and health care industry, and credentialing requirements for medical staff and payers.
• Detailed working knowledge of medical/legal issues and laws, regulatory agencies and other national standards for medical staff and delegated credentialing is required.

Medical Director Workforce Health Safety

In this role, the Medical Director will direct all medical aspects of the Workforce Health & Safety (WH&S) department of the New York Presbyterian Hospital to ensure high quality medical care to all employees according to established medical practice and in compliance with all applicable federal, state, city regulations and hospital policy. The Medical Director acts as an attending Physician for Workforce Health and Safety and advises on clinical standards of care.

Essential Duties

• Holds responsibility for the quality of medical care delivered in the Workforce Health & Safety clinics.
• Delivers clinical care to employees, particularly in difficult or complex cases. Assumes a lead role in resolving patient related issues that require medical expertise and/or management support.
• Together with the Corporate Director of WH&S, collaborates in the development and implementation of policy and practice.
• Together with the Corporate Director of WH&S, supports the strategic vision and direction of WH&S.

• Member of the Committee on Infections, the Influenza Task Force, the Clinical Support Committee and other committees deemed necessary by the Corporate Director.
• Collaborates and provides clinical expertise and oversight to the Transitional Work Program, Worker’s Compensation, FMLA and Case Management.
