The Department of Biology and Neuroscience Program at Brandeis University seeks an instructor for BIOL 132A, General Microbiology (4 credits) for the Fall 2024 semester.

This course is usually offered every year and is often taken by students majoring in Biology and Health: Science, Society, and Policy as well as pre-medical students. Topics covered by this class include the physiology and properties of bacteria, viruses, and other microorganisms; microbial nutrition, metabolism, growth; bacterial genetics; horizontal gene transfer; microbial pathogenesis; immunity; antibiotics and other means of microbial control. BIOL 14A (Genetics and Genomics) and BIOL 15B (Cells and Organisms) must be successfully completed as a prerequisite prior to taking BIOL 132A.

Brandeis University seeks to hire an Assistant Director to be part of the University Events team and to oversee event operations.  This role not only supports individual events but also oversees other event managers and departmental operations.  Oversight and individual events services include but are not limited to arranging for appropriate catering, audio visual, and room set ups as well as communication with the client regarding pricing and status of an event. This position will coordinate with support services across campus to ensure all event details are addressed and completed to the client's satisfaction. Skills & Qualifications:

BS/BA required, 3-5 years relevant work experience. Prior management experience is valued.

Excellent organizational and communications skills. Detail oriented. Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects while staying within budget parameters. A minimum of intermediate Excel skills required. Familiarity with Monday.com, Event Guru, 25Live, Workday and Coupa is desired but not required. The ability to quickly adapt to new software, technology. The ability to quickly adjust and address any emerging issues is essential. Excellent Customer Service Skills and easily able to build positive relationships across all levels of an organization a must.

Valid driver's license in good standing required.

Staff will serve in an on -call rotation Friday-Sunday. May include some required evening or weekend hours based on event and staffing needs.

The Rose Art Museum is planning a major reinstallation between June and September and seeks experienced art installers. The project will last from mid-June to mid-September, with part-time and full-time hours available (between 15-35 hours per week). Members of our installation team may also be invited to work on future projects.

Under the supervision and direction of the Manager, Collections and Exhibitions the Exhibition Installer provides support for all aspects of exhibition production including: installation, preparation of artwork, fine art packing and unpacking, general construction, wall preparation, gallery maintenance (lighting and cleaning), equipment / supply inventories or other duties as assigned.

Key Responsibilities:

• Professional art handling of works of art (2D, 3D, multimedia) including both collection and loan objects.

• Knowledge of safe and museum standard installation practices for both special temporary exhibitions, gallery rotations or longer-term collections installation.

• Experience with fine art packing, unpacking and movement of artwork within museum standards and under direction.

• Installation of exhibition graphics, labels or other materials.

What you need to succeed:

• Experience with art handling, installation methodology within museum industry standards.

• Deadline-driven, responds creatively to situations, problem-solving, and ability to carry out instructions precisely and collaboratively in a team environment.

• Basic knowledge and familiarity with power/hand tools and hardware.

Do you seek a part-time role helping to guide undergraduates into health careers?  The Health: Science, Society and Policy (HSSP) program at Brandeis University seeks to hire a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer to manage and oversee the internship experience and teach the associated course for Fall 2024 and Spring 2025.  These undergraduate internships span the spectrum of health functions, including:

• biomedical and health-services research in labs or biopharmaceutical companies;
• clinical support positions in hospitals, clinics, dental offices, physical therapy centers, nursing homes, or ambulance companies;
• public health functions in community health centers or public health agencies;
• health administration, health policy, and consulting jobs;
• health advocacy positions in non-profits and patient groups, including those that focus on how social determinants like hunger, housing, neighborhoods and environment affect health.

Candidates for the position should have familiarity with many of these fields, how they connect to each other, and their role in the delivery of health to patients and populations.  The internship instructor is not required to find internships for students, but the department maintains a database of past assignments if necessary. The instructor is asked to do a quick email or Zoom check-in with each student during the internship, some of which occur over the summer. The position is well-suited for someone established in the healthcare industry who wants to mentor future clinicians, medical personnel, and health advocates.

HSSP 89a Internship and Analysis

This course for declared HSSP majors combines: 1) a supervised health-related internship, and 2) a weekly, classroom-based discussion during the Internship Seminar. The internship placement must be clearly health-related and take place within a healthcare organization whose work involves science (e.g., natural sciences and medicine), society (e.g., the social sciences and public health), and/or policy (e.g., law, politics, economics, and organizations). The internship must be arranged in consultation with and approved in writing by the HSSP Internship Instructor BEFORE the internship begins. Students are required to attend a weekly 1.5 hour sections, keep a journal, write short papers, and prepare presentations - all of which requires reflection on and systematic analysis of the internship experience. Usually offered every semester.

The course is taught in person, seminar style for 30-35 HSSP students in the fall and 15-20 students in the spring. The class meets on Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:45-2:05pm in the fall, but there is flexibility in scheduling for future semesters.  The course is designed to connect the students’ front-line experience with long-term career pathways, as well as discuss some of the larger issues & debates in health care. Prior syllabi will be made available as a background/foundation.  The salary is $16,640 for both semesters. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Conduct independent research, utilizing advanced molecular biology techniques

Partnering with the Chaplaincy Innovation Lab, this Group Lead will train partnered Massachusetts-based college mental health professionals and chaplains how to run their own 4-week Spirituality and Mental Health Groups on their campuses. The training comprises two live training sessions on Zoom with partnered trainees in attendance, as well as one private consultation session each week. As the Director of BOLLI, you will be responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive, visionary program/project strategy designed to continually grow and improve programs and build internal/external engagement. You will provide direction and thought leadership to develop strategic goals and objectives, define associated metrics to measure results, and create and obtain resources to ensure success. You will also be responsible for providing continuity and guidance for the BOLLI membership, including the BOLLI volunteer committee, membership and member liaisons, board of advisors, curriculum, study group support committee, and distinguished speakers group.

In addition to these responsibilities, you will build collaborative, collegial relationships with committee chairs and support their efforts to shape the group and establish appropriate succession plans for themselves and the group’s members. You will provide guidance and support to staff in creating program/project components and member support services, address membership matters and other issues escalated by staff or members, and create department strategy for structure, process, and staff support of members.

You will have a proven track record of success in developing and implementing strategic plans, building collaborative relationships, and leading teams to achieve ambitious goals. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as experience working with diverse groups of people. A passion for lifelong learning and a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion are also essential.

Job Summary: The HBI Coordinator provides administrative support to the HBI. Duties include HBI event management, calendar management, administrative support  to the HBI director, oversight of student workers, and general office management. The employee holding this part-time position will be integral to our small, but mighty, HBI team.

This is a part-time position (14-17 hours per week) 

Job Description:

• Coordinates HBI events including creating and managing planning documents for HBI in-person and online programs and liaising with HBI team and event participants to ensure all parties are aware of their roles. 30%

• Organizes HBI calendars including scheduling HBI seminars and events, coordinating events with the greater university calendar 20%

• Supports day-to-day office operations including purchasing and organizing office and event supplies, assisting with the onboarding of visiting scholars, coordinating student office workers, and providing technical back up for Zoom meetings and events. 20%

• Support the HBI director with administrative tasks including correspondence, reconciling expenses and scheduling 15%

• Performs other assignments as needed. 15%

Requirements:

• High School/GED required; Bachelor's degree is strongly preferred.

• 1-3 years of relevant work experience is preferred but recent college graduates are encouraged to apply as well.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications (SVP of Mark/Comms), this position is a highly collaborative role that will be a key contributor and supporter of the Central Communications team. The Executive Admin/Project Coordinator will provide executive and administrative support to the Office of Marketing and Communications and ensure smooth daily administrative operations of the office. The Executive Admin/Project Coordinator is an integral part of the operations for the Central Communications team and will be expected to proactively participate and facilitate team meetings and office gatherings.

This is a part time position working 20-hour a week and is eligible for benefits. Office hours are generally 9:00 a.m. – 1 p.m.; hours may vary occasionally due to variations in the academic year.

Position Description

The Executive Assistant/Project Coordinator will participate in a wide range of projects identified as priorities by the SVP of Mark/Comms. These projects span across multiple aspects of the organization and include, but are not limited to:

• 60 % Executive assistance for the SVP of Mark/Comms, and related office administrative management. This includes managing calendars, planning, scheduling, and preparing materials for meetings; composing and distributing meeting minutes; coordinating/planning office events/meetings; assisting with project tracking and coordination; maintaining office supplies; coordinating IT/space needs; and processing invoices and expense reports

• 30 % Coordinating non-emergency university-wide communications; assist staff as needed with basic edits in the content management system (CMS) for Communications-maintained sites

• 5 % Coordinating event logistics for office meetings

• 5% Supporting the onboarding of new staff

Basic Qualifications

Candidates MUST meet the following basic qualifications to be considered for this role:

• BS/BA/equivalent required plus 3-5 years of related work experience or AS/equivalent with formal administrative training plus 5 years of related work experience

• Computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite of programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), and Google suite of programs (i.e., Google Docs, Google Spreadsheets, and Google Calendar) required

• Experience with the logistics of managing a department budget, such as providing reports, moving invoices and contracts through an approval process, ensuring the department stays within the operating budget

• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

• Familiarity with bulk email systems and/or content management systems; comfort with learning new web-based communications tools

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate professionally with a diverse constituency, including senior administrators, faculty, and students

• Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills

• Flexibility and willingness to provide assistance to the team as needs change over time

• Proven ability to work collaboratively and be an effective team player

• Experience or demonstrated interest in equity, diversity, inclusion, belonging, and antiracism work preferred

The Central Communications team supports a hybrid workplace model which will actively support some remote work, with the expectation that there will be a minimum of four in-office days per week. Brandeis University is looking for a Science Posse Mentor. The Brandeis Science Posse Mentor serves as the primary advisor for a group of 10-12 students who have been selected as Brandeis Science Posse Scholars. Brandeis Science Posse Scholars are students from the New York City area who are selected for undergraduate admission to Brandeis based on their outstanding leadership skills. Many but not all Scholars are first generation, low-income, or students of color at Brandeis University. The mentor motivates the Posse members to achieve in their academics, and to fully participate in Brandeis University campus life. The mentor works with the Posse members both as a group and as individuals during the first year and sophomore year of college. The Mentor will provide active encouragement for students to major in a STEM discipline.

This is a part time position, approximately 12 hours a week. It is a two-year position.

Examples of Key Responsibilities:

• Designs and leads weekly two-hour meeting with the Scholars. Creates and facilitates these meetings or helps the Scholars create and facilitate the meetings. Meetings should promote academic excellence, campus involvement, and a strong affinity for Brandeis University
• Responsible for attending and actively contributing to trainings, workshops, and retreats sponsored by Brandeis University and/or by the Posse Foundation.
• Maintains ongoing contacts with the Dean of Academic Services and Advising at Brandeis and with the Posse Foundation to ensure both are updated about the status of the Posse. Networks with Brandeis University offices to ensure the Posse knows about and takes advantage of campus resources
• Performs crisis counseling for students who are experiencing difficulty with school or personal problems. Refers students to and collaborates with other advising resources including these found in Academic Services or Student Life
• Analyzes and assesses student needs. Meets biweekly with each Scholar individually. Establishes and builds relationships, and monitors student progress to maintain continuity of advising relationships in order to meet retention and graduation goals of Brandeis University and the Posse Foundation. Uses a comprehensive strategy that integrates advising in the following areas: academic, financial aid, career/graduate school and personal to support students through their first two years of college

BA/BS required, current graduate student

Experience working with and motivating high school and/or college students, especially in their academic and social development.

Experience working with people from different cultures, races, and economic backgrounds. Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to work as part of a team.
