Department Overview
 

The Oncology business unit in Pfizer is dedicated to developing innovative cancer medicines and Biosimilars with the aim of improving outcomes for patients spanning a number of tumor types for example; Breast, Lung, Urological and Haematological cancers, with a vision of becoming Leaders in the field of management within each individual area.

The UK marketing team are an essential part of the UK oncology business unit, developing brand strategy and marketing programmes through close partnership with our medical and sales colleagues to market our medicines and improve patient outcomes.

What can I achieve and what will I be accountable for whilst completing a placement at Pfizer?

Working in the marketing team will provide you with an opportunity to combine commercial and scientific skills to enhance our brand success, thereby improving patient outcomes.  The roles on offer will be located within a specific cancer type. If successful you will be allocated to a tumor area and integrated within a highly experienced team, having an opportunity to work on delivering brand strategy, learning about effective project management, Omnichannel and digital marketing strategy and we will ensure you are given the chance to lead and own key projects, which will provide invaluable strategic, digital and project management skills. There may also be opportunities to take on new projects and assignments outside of the Oncology team to enhance your skills and create a well-rounded experience for your placement year.

Specifically you will gain experience in:

• The delivery of brand plans throughout 2024-2025

• Managing marketing materials in our Global Content Management system (GCMA)

• Supporting marketing and the Omnichannel team in the development of content and delivery of activities in our digital journey

• Input into designing of materials for healthcare professionals and patients

• Gathering insights on the market environment for our medicines portfolio

• Comprehension of the ABPI code and promoting compliance improvement within the Oncology BU

• Internal communication and team-working with colleagues from many different functions

• Cross business unit projects to contribute towards Pfizer’s Corporate Responsibility and obtain a better comprehension of the pharma industry and the type of roles it has to offer.

The Biopharma, Patient & CDI (BPC) team creates technology solutions for our external customers.  This includes all digital (web, mobile, omni-channel, & devices) products, platforms, services and experiences in service of patients, HCPs, payors, pharmacists, or clinical sites.

Within BPC, the Platform DevOps team are accountable for the platforms at Pfizer that allow the creation, configuration, launch, and support of all externally facing digital (web, mobile, omni-channel, & device) products, services, and experiences, servicing all external customer types at Pfizer. This includes our Marketing Technology (Martech) platform codenamed “Rosalind”.
 

Rosalind manages the customer data that Pfizer collects from its integrated websites, mobile apps and marketing platforms. We have a range of traditional MarTech as well as journey orchestration, channel and analytics tools. Our platform has evolved over 8 years to send millions of emails and manage billions of customer interactions and events.

Role Summary

We seek a skilled and experienced Principal Engineer to join Rosalind and help deliver our Customer Data Platform services. You will be accountable for technical engineering decisions, solution designs, and delivery, as well as elements of the operation of your assigned services.

In this technical leadership role, you will act as the executor and the visionary behind technical solutions. You will lead teams of between 10 and 25 technical resources to solve complex engineering problems, craft the technical designs and ensure a successful delivery of high-quality products and services from inception to completion. This role requires exceptional technical knowledge, strong management skills, and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams while sharing responsibility with other program leads for achieving the desired objectives.

You will also be accountable for delivery of security-and privacy-first capabilities while creating an environment where engineers can do their best work as measured by a quarterly Developer’s Experience survey, and alignment and contribution to the service network and technical engineering standards.

Key Responsibilities

A normal work week consists of leading one or more teams of engineers to deliver and implement technical solutions, following your design approach to meet your assigned program objectives and KPIs. You will also collaborate closely and often with Chief Marketing Office (CMO) Leads, Digital Leads, and Product Owners, to ensure that technical decisions and their implementation align with broader strategic priorities.

You represent engineering in program and stakeholder meetings, as such you’ll need to be able to think on your feet: provide consultation, identify risks based on a variety of factors, and rely on your past experiences to identify potential solutions and develop ballpark estimates.

In many situations you will be working with technology that is new to Pfizer and requires you to learn quickly, be able to read and understand documentation, and architect robust and scalable solutions that align with our business objectives.

Using influence more than authority, you will lead teams of engineers on the implementation of the solution. Individual members of the team are responsible for delivering on their commitments, but the team supports each other. The team pride themselves on the quality of their code, our delivery practices and breadth of our test coverage. You will be expected to document your work.

Key responsibilities for a Principal Engineer are listed below:

Technical Leadership 

• Serve as the top technical authority on projects, making decisions on technology choices, design approaches, solution architecture and implementation.

• Lead and oversee the entire lifecycle excellence of engineering projects, ensuring alignment with architectural vision and adherence to best practices.

• Responsible for maintaining good code quality by promoting and ensuring secure code hygiene.

• Responsible for guiding the correct configuration of SaaS solutions to ensure security and compliance.

• Build a team able to manage change. Take appropriate risks to achieve the desired results, balancing risks to stability and current norms versus the need for constant change, improvement, and simplification.

• Facilitate the conversation between Enterprise Architects, Business Architects, Vendors and Developers, by providing technical clarity on solution(s) to build and code to write, move content from ideation into delivery to move from concept to reality.

Cross-Team Collaboration

• Act as a translator between business stakeholders and technical engineers, to ensure that technical, security and privacy considerations are represented in strategic discussions and business objectives are being met by our solutions.

• Align objectives, dependencies, and schedules across multiple teams to keep teams unblocked, and to ensure seamless projects execution.

• Collaborate with other Principal Engineers, and through the Principal Engineers Forum, to share best practices, quality standards, address improvement areas, and ensure effective communication of information.

• Collaborate with security teams to monitor vulnerabilities, implement defenses, and ensure compliance with security best practices.

• Collaborate with digital operations and support to ensure smooth BAU operations.

• Act on Developer Experience (DX) survey findings and feedback from the engineering team members, to drive continuous improvement initiatives to increase the “Ease of Delivery” of the team.

Incident Management & Recovery

• Lead or assist in the response to security incidents, ensuring rapid containment, mitigation, and recovery.

• Lead troubleshooting during operational outages, guiding the team to diagnose and resolve issues quickly.

• Work towards system resilience and implement post-mortem analyses to identify root causes and prevent future incidents.

• Ensure that solutions are designed with data privacy considerations from the outset.

Qualifications and education requirements (include ‘basic’ and ‘preferred’ qualifications / skills)

In order to fulfil the responsibilities listed above, we expect that you possess and demonstrate:

• Extensive experience in software engineering, with a focus on leading complex projects.

• Deep technical expertise from a well-documented background as a senior-level engineer.

Qualifications & Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum of 10 years’ experience with increasing responsibility delivering digital solutions, products, and services.

• Professional certifications in engineering leadership are a plus.

• Demonstrable experience operating in a DevOps environment.

• Proven capability handling large scale, enterprise software delivery in a global 24/7 environment.

At a technical level, we are looking for engineers with qualifications and expertise in the following areas:

• Experience driving and participating in technical discovery to architect and deliver solutions that meet program business objectives.

• Systems thinking experience demonstrated by architecting complex solutions that require integrating multiple solutions.

• Demonstrated hands-on experience using AWS services to build real-life large-scaled solutions.

• Understanding of CI/CD practices, RESTful APIs, integration patterns, microservice patterns and other areas of interest to modern software development.

• Excellent experience with API-led development using Postman and Open API 3.0 is a must.

• Excellent experience with Agile team processes, including Scrum and Kanban delivery - we enjoy working with lean methods.

• Experience with the types of process problems that come when trying to build complex, new applications and comfortable when things are uncertain and require problem solving.

• Excellent experience estimating complex technical stories and breaking them down.

• Strong written and spoken English with excellent asynchronous collaboration and communication.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Cyber Intelligence Analyst Associate is responsible for researching, analyzing, and tracking various cyber threats with a focus on motives supporting espionage and financially motivated cybercrime. The individual will derive, analyze, and deliver cyber threat intelligence that will help inform stakeholder decision making to reduce risk to Pfizer. The individual will maintain familiarity with ongoing cyber threat activity and geopolitical issues that may impact the cyber threat landscape. The individual will be highly motivated to continually grow and expand their existing technical and intelligence analysis skillset to adapt to the ever-changing threat landscape.

The position is an entry level role. Ideal candidates will have the basic qualifications shown below however candidates possessing a strong subset of skills with the motivation for continued skillset development will be considered. The individual will report to the Director, Global Threat Research within the Pfizer Digital Global Information Security organization.
 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Acquire and maintain knowledge of the cyber threat landscape from open source and privately produced intelligence reports to include advanced threat actors, techniques, capabilities, and targets relevant to industry.

• Perform collection and analysis of threat data and intelligence to support stakeholder priority intelligence requirements (PIRs).

• Perform technical indicator analysis of cyber threats through in-depth pivoting using internally developed and external tools and services.

• Develop strategic, tactical, and operational intelligence products for stakeholder dissemination.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) organization delivers the following capabilities for Pfizer. Business application platforms supporting Pfizer’s enterprise application and critical business processes. Infrastructure allowing business traffic to travel where it needs to go, internally and externally, along with the appropriate access controls. EP&S secures Pfizer's most important information assets through world class controls and protections and enables Pfizer's business results by making security an enabler and not a roadblock to achieving business results.

This role reports directly to the Data Protection Practice Lead within EP&S. The role is responsible for the design, engineering, operationalization, and continuous improvement of Pfizer’s Data Protection infrastructure. This role will support Pfizer’s internal enterprise Data Protection infrastructure as well as externally hosted cloud Data Protection services.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Be able to Engineer, Implement and Support Data Protection technologies for both Dell and Rubrik backup solutions to an advanced level.

• In depth architectural expertise of Rubrik backup solutions integrated with VMware technologies, including vSphere and diverse storage solutions.

• In depth knowledge of Dell backup technologies integrated with SAP with specific knowledge of planning and migrating SAP backups from a Dell to Rubrik architecture.

• In depth knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) to support externally hosted Data Protection and Disaster Recovery solutions.

• Makes decisions to support data protection service issues that may impact critical sites.

• Work closely with DBAs to ensure that database backups (Oracle, SQL. MySQL) are optimized, ensuring that best practices are being used so that backups and restores are efficient.

• Uses vast comprehensive wealth of data protection knowledge and experience to drive critical decisions to improve the data protection and DR services.

• Ensure the efficient use of data protection backup resources through the establishment of effective capacity management and consumption measures.

• Work closely with Data Protection service providers to identify opportunities to increase overall efficiency either through transition to different hardware or tools that will optimize our global data protection infrastructure and footprint.

• The individual in this role will be expected to informally take a leadership role in order to drive conversations and make decisions.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, or a similar technical/engineering discipline with five years of relevant experience; OR Master’s degree with three years of relevant experience; OR Associate's degree with eight years of relevant experience; OR Ph.D. with 0+ years of experience; OR 10 years of relevant experience with a high school diploma or equivalent.

• Advanced understanding of Windows and Linux Operating Systems to support Data Protection infrastructure.

• Advanced understanding of SAP solutions integrated with Dell Networker backup solutions.

• Advanced understanding of backups solutions integrated with AWS cloud technologies.

• Strong communicative skills and the ability to simplify complex planning details into business operational terms in a global environment.

Sr. Associate, Cybersecurity Analytics

The Enterprise Platforms & Security (EP&S) team delivers the following capabilities for Pfizer. Business application platforms supporting Pfizer’s enterprise application and critical business processes.  Infrastructure allowing business traffic to travel where it needs to go, internally and externally, along with the appropriate access controls.  EP&S secures Pfizer's most important information assets through world class controls and protections and enables Pfizer's business results by making security an enabler and not a roadblock to achieving business results.

The Sr. Associate, Cybersecurity Analytics will be a key contributor in the Cybersecurity Analytics team, which provides big data capabilities, visualizations, advanced analytics, requirements consultancy and subject matter expertise to protect Pfizer from the ever-changing cyber threat landscape.

This role will collaborate closely with Global Information Security organization to ensure we are enabling them to best protect Pfizer and enabling Pfizer’s purpose of breakthroughs that change patients' lives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS

• Support analytics and predictive modeling projects using data mining, rigorous statistical methods and machine learning techniques on massive data sources solving real and immediate cybersecurity use cases.
• Develop and improve existing ways of merging petabyte scale data sources to understand the interaction of entities within cybersecurity logs.
• Assist teams in Global Information Security to understand the data sources they need and how that data should be used and analyzed.
• Be a Splunk, Google Chronicle and analytics expert assisting other teams and more junior colleagues.
• Design new visualizations to make descriptive analyses more intuitive and informative for additional modeling.
• Execute defined periodic review functions to ensure services operate as designed and identify inaccurate support documentation and assist with associated updates.
• Develop and execute against project plans as necessary to implement analytics improving Pfizer’s global cybersecurity posture.

ROLE SUMMARY

The Sr Associate will perform day to day support functions related to Pfizer’s Wide Area Network (WAN), Internet and cloud DMZs. Specific responsibilities include performing analysis for Internet offload, responding to incident tickets, supporting implementation of new cloud services, and updating related support documentation. The position will focus on WAN, DMZ and Cloud engineering which will also encompass working with application support teams, Global information security and monitoring/automation teams.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Participate in the evaluation and definition of WAN, DMZ and Cloud design standards, including technical design documents and maintaining physical and logical diagrams.
• Support collaboration efforts in the research, development, and deployment efforts of new cloud services, technologies and features.
• Support WAN and DMZ related infrastructure changes from requirements to implementation, including design, analysis, testing and optimization.
• Assist and collaborate with other technical teams in support of extended WAN andDMZ strategies such as “IOT” Internet of Things and guest wireless.
• Assist and collaborate with other teams in development of tools for WAN/DMZ Infrastructure automation.
• Collaborate with cross-organizational teams, FW engineering, Network Operations, Global Information Security, DDI engineering to develop global standards for Cloud services.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, information systems, cybersecurity or engineering
• 3+ years’ experience working in a business/corporate environment working in a network capacity.
• Demonstrated experience with IP routing and the different protocols in a large IP network (BGP experience preferred).
• Demonstrated experience in working with cloud services such as Amazon AWS and Microsoft Azure
• Working knowledge of networking and security components such as routers, SDWAN, FWs and IDSs
• Basic understanding of IP protocols/service/functionality (DNS, VPN/Tunnels, VLANs, NAT, Firewalls, LACP, 802.1Q trunking, VRRP), Knowledge of Layer-2 network technologies including Ethernet WAN, Knowledge of IP related protocols such as OSPF, EIGRP, BGP-4, OMP, and MPLS

Department Overview 

The Vaccines team vision is to be an active partner in eradicating disease and preventing death and illness in the UK by supporting the delivery of sustainable, high-quality immunisation as part of an integrated life-course prevention strategy. The Vaccines Medical Affairs team consists of doctors, pharmacists and colleagues with life sciences backgrounds who work closely with a cross functional team (colleagues from other departments) to deliver on projects and activities and provide medical and scientific expertise in the field of vaccinology. The Medical Affairs team is also involved in developing new ways to engage with and partner with healthcare professionals, patients & other stakeholders.

The purpose of the undergraduate role is to gain an insight into the pharmaceutical industry and meet experts working in a wide range of roles and departments. The opportunity to work cross-functionally, with other teams, offers an insight into the different career opportunities industry has to offer.

Roles and opportunities will include:

• Assist the Medical Affairs team with key projects and deliverables aligned with the medical strategy. This will include supporting and delivering projects for both internal and external stakeholders. For instance, this may include projects relating to data analysis and presentation, investigator initiated research (ISR), clinical trials, non-interventional studies, database studies and registries.

• Helping the Medical Affairs team to stay abreast of relevant published literature and developments, by reviewing and summarising key information.

• You will develop in-depth scientific knowledge of Pfizer vaccines within your nominated therapy area(s) as well as that of key competitors

• You will learn about the ABPI Code of practice and Pfizer SOPs (standard operating procedures) and help to ensure that all activity is compliant. You will compile relevant case studies to improve team knowledge on relevant industry regulations (e.g. ABPI code of practice) and Pfizer Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• Support the training of other colleagues in the medical data

• Organise a departmental volunteer day
