SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
The selected engineer will be responsible for the development of contract documents (drawings, calculations, specifications) for bridge structure designs under the direction of a more senior engineer. The selected engineer will be expected to produce detailed drawings with oversight.
In addition to design, field inspection opportunities on long-span (suspension and steel truss bridges) are an annual event and provide an opportunity for professional exposure and growth.
The selected engineer will perform engineering tasks and will be expected to extract engineering information from CAD drawings. You’ll prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs. You’ll complete a variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes. With minimal supervision, independently performs all aspects of office engineering functions on a NYSDOT and NYCDOT REI and CM services contract. The Office engineering assignments include processing contractor payment package, contract compliance function, change order development, estimates, reconciliation of quantities with field staff, etc.
Review of plans, schedules, contracts, procedures, and construction methods and systems for an assigned project, or a designated area of a large project. Incumbent is also responsible for reviewing the performance of subcontractors to assure contract compliance, the application of accepted construction technology and standards, and the acceptable standardization of materials and supplies. Provides technical guidance to lower-level field engineering personnel. Willingness to relocate to construction site locations is expected.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction-related field, or equivalent construction-related work experience, as well as 8+ years of experience in field construction is required.
Experience in the construction of large civil/structural and/or industrial projects is preferred.
NICET III or IV certification is preferred.
SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:
Requires a comprehensive knowledge of engineering and construction-related processes, as well as industry practices. Also requires excellent written and oral communication skills, a familiarity with CAD and other PC software packages typically associated with engineering and construction, and the proven ability for performing in a lead capacity on a project.

Responsibilities:
Performs a variety of design and analysis duties for structural projects that could include Bridge rehabilitations and replacements, rail/transit structures, tolling gantries, tunnel structures, structures for airport facilities.
Complete variety of assignments such as drawings, specifications, and other materials suitable for procurement and construction purposes, utilizing CAE/CAD as applicable. Prepare standard engineering computations, material quality takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and geometric designs.
Use design software and CAE/CAD applications to implement project designs.
Review small and portions of larger supplier drawing submittals and assists in performing quantity calculations for bid analyses.
Under close supervision in the utilization of engineering theories and practices, develops the creation of engineering products that meet customer quality requirements.
For design/build projects - may involve developing construction related plans and documents and going into the field
Provides support for other engineering activities as required.
