Job Responsibilities:

• Participates in orientation training, developing schedules, entering data and performing external compliance tasks.
• Interviews applicants for employment, processes application forms and manages employee personnel files by performing the following duties.
• Provides information to applicants regarding application process, employment policies, organization, and open positions.
• Instructs applicants on completing employment applications, reviews applications for completeness, and obtains additional information from applicants in preparation for post-offer processing, such as work experience, education, training, skills, and references.

Job Requirements:

The Center for Security and Emerging Technology (CSET), under the Walsh School of Foreign Service (SFS), is seeking capable data storytellers, analyzers, and visualizers to be Data Research Analysts. 

Data Research Analysts are part of CSET’s data team, working with specific lines of research to produce data-driven research products and policy analysis alongside CSET’s analysis teams. This dynamic role serves as a bridge between the data and analysis teams. It draws on knowledge of research methods, subject-area expertise, and analytic skills. We encourage those with experience in data visualization, programming, and/or statistical analysis to apply.

We are a cross-matrixed research organization focused on studying the security impacts of emerging technologies, supporting academic work in security and technology studies, and delivering nonpartisan analysis to technologists and policymakers. We are particularly interested in Data Research Analysts who can support one of the following lines of research:

• Applications: How can the U.S. government and its allies make effective use of artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML) and other emerging technologies? Our research in this area examines AI-enabled emerging technologies relevant to national security, opportunities and challenges for adoption and application, and opportunities for alliances in the development and deployment of AI-enabled systems.
• Assessment: AI/ML systems are failure-prone, unreliable, and opaque. This research line seeks to understand and contribute to the development and adoption of AI standards, testing procedures, best practices, regulation, auditing, and certification. It identifies areas where U.S. policy could promote the responsible, safe, and reliable deployment of AI/ML capabilities. It encompasses exploration of AI/ML accidents, harms, and vulnerabilities; AI trustworthiness, safety, standards, testing, and evaluation; AI adoption, regulation, and policy; and attempts to understand when systems work well, when they fail, and how such failures could be mitigated.

The Data Research Analyst reports to the Director of Data Science and Research, and is responsible for: 

• Collaborating with Research Fellows, Research Analysts, Data Scientists, and Center leadership to develop and execute research proposals and produce data-driven analytic products within CSET’s Lines of Research
• Leading the analytic support for a Line of Research by the Data Science team: managing projects, identifying priorities, fostering cross-team communication, and effectively leveraging CSET data resources
• Supporting research through ownership of quantitative projects, including but not limited to identifying and evaluating data sources, preparing data for analysis, applying appropriate methods to draw inferences from data, and conducting reviews of code and analysis
• Writing and otherwise contributing to CSET research

The Applications Development Technology Lead Analyst is a senior level position responsible for establishing and implementing new or revised application systems and programs in coordination with the Technology team. The overall objective of this role is to lead applications systems analysis and programming activities.

Phosphoproteomics and glycoproteomics are promising approaches discover cancer biomarkers. These approaches require unique skills in sample preparation and operation of mass spectrometry.

The Research Assistant – in a temporary, full-time role - prepares preparation serum samples for phosphoproteomics and glycoproteomics studies and analysis of the samples by LC-MS/MS.

Their work helps to advance the identification of biomarkers for early detection of cancer, and contributes expertise in conducting untargeted and targeted analysis of phosphoproteomics and glycopeptides within the Dr. Hablom Ressom Lab and across the department.

Requirements and Qualifications

• Ph.D. in chemistry or biochemistry
• Skills in mass spectrometry

LC-MS/MS data analysis

Research Action Officer

Key Role:

Provide executive-level Action Officer and technical support to a front office of the client and its senior leadership. Advise on and systematically develop high-risk, high-reward R&D strategy in the context of national security and dual-use. Support the successful design and execution of broadly biological R&D programs. Work closely with a high-performing, fast-paced team to support government clients. Perform tasks in a variety of areas, including liaising with key internal and external stakeholders, coordinating meetings, generating and consolidating briefing materials, and performing administrative tasks, as needed. Design and facilitate institutional partnerships with government, commercial, and academic entities. Coordinate Front Office supporting staff and processes for efficiency, clarity, and resilience. Support special projects for the team.

Basic Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience with research in biology

• 3+ years of experience with providing and developing strategy documents and executive-level strategic support

• Experience with authoring technical papers, reports, or strategy documents for both technical and non-technical audiences

• Ability to obtain a security clearance

• HS diploma or GED

Additional Qualifications:

• Experience with defense research and development programs

• Ability to coordinate engagement meetings with a broad stakeholder audience

• Ability to explain and present complex scientific concepts to a broad audience

The projected compensation range for this position is $65,300.00 to $149,000.00 (annualized USD). Requirements

Clinical Research Assistant, Clinical Research Unit – Georgetown University Medical Center

The Clinical Research Assistant not only provides services for the Clinical Research Unit, but also serves as a certified DXA technician/coordinator.

They spend approximately 40% of their time coordinating the care of DXA patients scheduled on the CRU for research and non-research reasons – care that includes independent review of the medical record for health history, further assessment of bone health history, technical completion, scan analysis, and results reporting to MD.

Additionally, the Clinical Research Assistant tracks scans, provides census data for billing, and establishes/maintains SOPs for their practice. They spend approximately 50% of their time assisting nurses with their clinical research and standard-of-care tasks, including taking vital signs, ECGs, phlebotomy, transportation of subjects, and pick-up and delivery of drugs from the research and main pharmacy; and they assist with processing, storing and shipping of laboratory specimens. 

As well, they spend approximately 10% of their time assisting the unit in administrative tasks, such as taking inventory and ordering of supplies, copying and chart set-up, and fulfilling receptionist duties when the Unit Secretary is absent. As needed, they engage in coordination of prevention quality improvement measures and provide clinical and laboratory support for off-site visits.

They perform all functions in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and Georgetown University Medical Center’s philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Work Interactions

The Clinical Research Assistant receives direct supervision from a nurse who delegates appropriate tasks and reports directly to CRU Nurse Manager. They function autonomously and are the CRU expert in matters of DXA operation and procedures. 

They also report to the DXA training coordinator or designee for scan training and sign off until they are certified and deemed competent. Once competent and certified, they work collaboratively with the Training Coordinator to accomplish goals of DXA services for the CRU. 

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science or equivalent
• Experience performing clinical assistant, phlebotomy, and clinical research assistant functions
• BLS certification

Preferred qualification

IV insertion skills and DXA experience

The candidate selected for hire is expected to obtain International Society for Clinical Densitometry certification within the first year of employment, if they do not already have certification on date of hire.
