• Level A 3-year Full-Time position (Part-time negotiable) at our Hawthorn campus

About the job
We have two exciting Postdoctoral Research Fellow opportunities working with OzGrav, the ARC Centre of Excellence for Gravitational Wave Discovery. We are seeking two scientists who can contribute to one or more of the OzGrav Research Programs. The focus of the positions advertised here is to prosecute the Research Programs through the observation of radio pulsars in the group of A/Prof Ryan Shannon and Prof. Matthew Bailes. These activities include:
1. Creating sensitive pulsar timing array sets with the MeerKAT radio telescope and international facilities.
2. Searching for nanohertz gravitational waves and studying the nanohertz-frequency gravitational wave sky through the development of novel sophisticated inference techniques.
3. Conducting tests of General Relativity and studying nuclear equations of state through the analysis of pulsars
The successful candidates will join the OzGrav team at Swinburne, while being encouraged to collaborate with the broader OzGrav research team at other nodes.

About you
To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in most, but not necessarily all, of the following criteria:
• A sound knowledge of pulsar astronomy
• Advanced knowledge of high-level computing languages (e.g. python, C, C++, cuda) in a Unix environment
• Demonstrated potential to write high-impact papers
• Knowledge of statistical techniques and advanced computing
• Knowledge of relativistic astrophysics and physics
• Demonstrated high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work well in diverse teams.
• For appointment at level B, a demonstrated ability to plan, lead, execute and publish high impact papers over a sustained period since the conclusion of the PhD.

• Completion of a doctoral qualification in pulsar or gravitational-waves astrophysics, or a closely related field
