Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust are currently seeking an enthusiastic Safety Advisor to join the busyHealth & Safety Team on a full time 37.5 hours per week permanent contract.
TheHealth & Safety Teamsupport all care groups and corporate services Trust wide. At the heart of what we do are the people we support who are actively and meaningfully involved in their own departmental services providing acute healthcare service to both the residents of Cornwall and visitors.
The Department was formed in 2012 and now supports around 7,000 people a year across the three main sites. Our work falls into three principal services: Health, Safety and Moving & Handling.
The Safety Advisor post is responsible to the Senior Safety Advisor and is a key post in theSafety section of the wider Health & Safety team.
This customer facing role requires excellent interpersonal and telephone skills, the role includes interaction with internal staff, external agencies and our partners and occasionally members of the public.
The post holder will be responsible for advising on technical matters and assisting with the development and implementation of robust systems and staff as well as maintaining existing processes, within the Safety team, monitoring the organisation and action plans on the specialisms covered by your section of the wider team.
As part of the Professional Practice Team, you will actively participate in supporting Trust staff to carry out risk assessments, investigations, preparing action plans and providing training, in order to reduce the levels of risk.
To promote at all times a positive image of the Health, Safety, Moving and Handling team and the wider Trust.The post holder will support the Senior Safety Advisor with the provision of specialist health and safety advice and guidance, provision of face to face and remote internal training, monitoring and measuring of internal performance to ensure progress against the Trust health and safety strategy and achievement of health and safety objectives and targets as identified in the business plan.
The post holder will help to ensure that the Trust health and safety management systems are maintained, audited and implemented including identifying risk factors, assisting with risk assessments and indicating the necessary measures for the health and safety of working environments in compliance with relevant regulations and policy in force across the Trust.
The post holder will be NEBOSH (or equivalent level 3 in health and safety) qualified or be working towards and once in post will be expected to become a member of a professional body (IOSH) and participate in CPD activities as required.
Day to day supervision will be provided by the Senior Safety Advisor, to ensure that the team are appropriately supported.
The aim of this post is to provide proficient professional safety advice and support on a wide range of subjects.
Provision of advice and guidance to all staff as requested and providing support to the team.
Ensure that the health and safety management systems are maintained audited and implemented including identifying risk factors, risk assessments and indicating the necessary measures for the health and safety of working environments in compliance with statute and Trust policies.
Arrange and/or re-arrange at short notice meetings, training, monitoring and assessments as necessary.
Data entry and text processing of data/information, including data that may have been compiled by others using a variety of Microsoft Office standard application.
Ensure the Health, Safety, Moving and Handling Team are providing reports for Trust wide KPI’s, measuring against team standard work procedures so that timescales are being met in relation to completion of assessments, investigations etc.
Support Senior Safety Advisor with the development and provision of training materials, registers, face to face training and presentations.
Contribute towards the development and implementation of Trust wide health and safety management systems.
The post holder will participate in and be involved with any relevant research, surveys, and audits also ensuring they are up to date with Health & Safety Legislation.
The post holder will potentially travel anywhere within the Trust geographical area, which may sometimes be at short notice.
