Due to demand, we are currently expanding our Engineering Project Management team in the South West and Wales region. We are therefore actively recruiting for an Mechanical Engineering Project Manager to join our Engineering team supporting our operational business across the region, based out of our sites in and around Bristol.
As Mechanical Engineering Project Manager you will attend sites to assist with capital projects and offer Engineering solutions ensuring the safety of site staff and contractors delivering the projects within a CDM environment. You will also be responsible for the financial control of the investments ensuring that budget constraints and expectations are achieved, and that the projects deliver all the objectives set out in the initial justification of the investment.
This role will ensure we maintain the best in class mechanical engineering and project management service and standards across our operating business. If you are based in or around the Bristol area then this role could be for you!

Main ResponsibilitiesReporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, the role of Mechanical Engineering Project Manager will be responsible for providing engineering advice and support to the wider deliver teams for problem solving, process design and operational improvements.

- Manage engineering projects ensuring the business works towards zero harm and zero incidents by promoting and adhering to HSE policies and legislative requirements
- Develop positive working relationships with key stakeholders both internally and externally
- Develop the required skills, through training mentoring and coaching, to ensure that projects are designed to achieve the lowest cost of ownership possible in a safe and professional manner
- Apply project management and engineering skills to identify opportunities for cost saving in projects and develop innovative solutions
- Ensure value engineering principles along with engineering best practice are utilised to drive forward implementation and ensure compliance to all standards & procedures
- Drive implementation and ensure compliance with best practice engineering solutions
- Deliver and manage regional action plans to drive improved performance
- Ensure strategic initiatives are delivered in order to drive operational excellence
The Ideal CandidateThe ideal candidate for the role of Mechanical Engineering Project Manager will possess a strong background in mechanical engineering and project management preferably working on sites in the concrete, aggregate, asphalt and / or sand and gravel sector. Alternatively, you may have in depth experience delivering an operational engineering role within an industrial, heavy plant or manufacturing sector.
Suitable candidates will also have:
- Project Management process knowledge and experience as well as Mechanical Engineering Qualifications, ideally degree, HNC, HND, C&G, NVQ or equivalent
- Ability to estimate and scope work
- Proven ability to collaborate and influence across multi-functional teams
- Self-awareness
- Resilience
- Ability to manage complex situations in a resourceful manner
- Highly numerate with good financial understanding and a good understanding of CDM regulations
- Continuous improvement focus
- Ability to manage complex and conflicting priorities
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and CAD designs
- Working knowledge and understanding of The Quarry Regulations 1999 advantageous
This is a mobile role, covering the South West and Wales region. A company car is provided so a full UK driving licence is required.
