Northern Star Resources are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in the Kalgoorlie Goldfields on a residential basis.

What's the role on offer?

As the Geotechnical Engineer in Kalgoorlie, you will be responsible for providing technical support and assistance to the mining operations with regards to mine planning, design and geotechnical support to optimise mine operations.

Northern Star operates several underground mines in the Kalgoorlie area each with their own geotechnical challenges and are investing in the latest technical research in high stress mining including ground support testing & design, non-linear numerical modelling, and structural identification from seismic response.

Duties will include:

Obtaining rock samples at different depths across sites and testing samples to determine strength, and other factors that affect the behaviour of rock
Plan and direct survey work to analyse the likely behaviour of rock when placed under pressure below ground.
Propose safe and fit for purpose mining plans to key stakeholders.
Provide geotechnical input to the mine design and scheduling process.
Analysing structural systems (ground support) for both static and dynamic loads
Monitor and assess the performance of the geotechnical designs
Monitor and assess ground support installation (QAQC)and performance(strain, corrosion)
Investigate and assess geotechnical occurrences and make recommendations.
Carryout geotechnical evaluations, risk assessments and make geotechnical recommendations.
Collect geotechnical information through mapping of underground excavations and geotechnical logging of core.
Provide support with maintaining the IMS seismic system.
Provide support with seismic data processing, analysis & reporting.
Review and update the Ground Control Management Plan (GCMP).
Maintain and update all geotechnical related procedures and operating standards.
Deliver ground awareness to site personnel.
Conduct Geotechnical Numerical Modelling as required.
Produce daily, weekly and monthly geotechnical reports
Look for, assess & implement Business Improvement opportunities.
Skills and Requirements:

Degree in Geotechnical Engineering (or equivalent)
A minimum 5 years' experience including 2 years' relevant UG Mining experience in a Geotechnical focused role.
Knowledge of the Mine Safety and Inspection Act and Regulations.
Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite
Demonstrated practical and technical Geotechnical skills.
Demonstrated ability to use specialised Geotechnical hardware and software, including Map3D, the RocScience suite, as well as specialised seismic software packages.
Proficient in the use of Datamine software.
Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

In this role, you will be an integral part of the exploration team identifying targets and conducting rigorous geologic assessments of exploration potential. You will be required to undertake field work and to work closely with joint venture partners and external geological and geophysical consultants. In this role you will have scope to be creative, contribute and grow professionally.
You will have previous RC, air-core and/or diamond drilling experience and will be actively involved in the planning and supervision of exploration programs. This role will be tailored to the successful candidate and will offer opportunities to further develop your exploration and geological skills.
The position will be based in Orange, NSW (no applications requiring a FIFO or DIDO roster will be considered). All applicants must be based in Australia and have the right to be legally employed in Australia.
Responsibilities
The Project Geologist will:
• Compile and evaluate the exploration potential of various regional and prospect scale datasets
• Conduct field reconnaissance studies, including mapping and sampling
• Carry out exploration programs to evaluate resources by sampling and examining drill core, drill cuttings and rock samples using a variety of methods including optical, chemical, electronic and mechanical techniques
• Conduct assessments and/or interpretation of surface and airborne geophysical datasets, including magnetic, radiometric, gravity and electromagnetic data
• Perform a range of geological analyses, including geological logging, mapping and interpretation
• Work collaboratively with the other Helix team members
• Contribute to the design, budgeting, permitting of field programs
• Manage field programs, including supervision of drilling and geophysical contractors
Required skills and experience
• Relevant tertiary degree in geology or geoscience
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in exploration geology or economic geology, including at least 2 years of experience with drilling-related activities (RC and diamond)
• Proficiency with QGIS, Leapfrog, ioGAS and MX Deposit
• Intellectual curiosity
• An understanding of geologic fundamentals, ore systems, and mineral exploration
• Unencumbered “C” Class driving licence for manual vehicles

Northern Star Resources are searching for drivern Mining Engineers to join our high performing Open Pits Technical Services team at our Northern Goldfields Operations. This is a site-based position working 8/6 rotation FIFO ex Perth.

Reporting to the Senior Mining Engineer, the primary role is for the safe design and implementation of drilling and blasting plans and systems as well as other production engineering requirements within the Technical Services Team. If desired, you will have opportunities for mentoring and coaching of Graduate Engineers.

Your main responsibilities will include:

Daily co-ordination and scheduling of all mining activities including load and haul, drill and blast, and other ancillary mining activities
Mine design requirements such as pit changes, roads, waste dumps and other infrastructure
Generating weekly and monthly mining plans
Assisting in the generation of quarterly, budget and longer term mining schedules and planning
Drill and Blast Design, QA/QC of drill and blast activities
End of day/week/month reporting for all mining activities and compliance against schedule
Monitoring and reporting of mining costs.
Assisting in the management of cost controls
The investigation of optimal mining methods and schedules for the total mine reserves
Required skills and experience:

Tertiary qualifications in Mining Engineering or a related discipline
Current "C" Class Western Australian Drivers Licence
2 years relevant experience in the mining industry, preferably in hard rock
Experience with mine design software Deswik CAD
Good communication skills
