Your new role
You will be working as either a Senior or Principal Engineer in the London office, coming in to help manage projects with a growing work load. They are ideally looking for an experienced Senior Engineer who is looking for a step-up to Principal who can then transition into an Associate role in the next 2 ish years. Ideally, you will be working with Revit and have experience within the commercial market.


What you'll need to succeed
You must be degree or HNC qualified and have at least 7 years experience within a consultancy setting working in Building Services. Candidates will ideally be Chartered, but if not, they are happy to support Engineers to get Chartered. You will ideally have worked on large scale commercial projects in the UK and been client facing in design team meetings. You will also have mentored and helped to progress more junior staff and must be able to maintain and enforce existing systems.

What you'll be doing;

• Own the entire process design including producing documentation such as Process Flow Diagrams, Process and Instrumentation Diagrams, process calculations, resilience scenarios and the description of operation.
• Develop conceptual designs into detailed engineering design packages (typically to RIBA stage 4) for energy centres, district heating networks, distributed energy schemes and other low carbon or renewable turnkey projects.

What we're looking for;

• A Qualified engineer in the mechanical field with a good awareness of civil and electrical engineering
• A minimum of 3 - 5 years relevant experience in the energy industry - particularly power generation, large scale energy centres and utilities (large heat pumps, steam raising plant, CHP units, chilled water systems, district heating networks, energy centres and a basic understanding of HV & LV electrical systems to allow interaction with our electrical design team)

What you'll do:

As the Architecture and Design Manager, you'll spearhead efforts in deep analysis and innovation in system design, advocating for the integration of cutting-edge technologies and best practices. Your leadership is crucial in crafting architectures that enhance orchestration, automation, and control across our software and hardware solutions, laying down a clear architectural roadmap to guide product development and ensure alignment with evolving industry trends and technological advancements.

In this pivotal position, you will foster robust collaboration between the various Engineering Teams, translating high-level architectural strategies into practical, actionable solutions. You will provide essential guidance and oversight, ensuring the software development lifecycle adheres to the established architectural standards.

A key part of the role will also involve risk management and technology selection, where they assess potential challenges and opportunities impacting system scalability, performance, and security. They are responsible for defining and tracking KPIs and OKRs that measure and drive the team's impact on product quality and innovation.

• You'll be responsible for the Business and Solution Architecture roadmaps owning the "what dimension" of the platforms delivery leading a team of Solution Architects and Solution designers joining the delivery squads to deploy the designed architectures and services
• Lead and manage a domain architectures teams ensuring we build a high-performing team of architects and designers to become a strong company-wide recognised practice of trusted technologists allowing the business to efficiently scale and innovate to be successful.
• Design an architecture strategy and roadmap to deliver scalable, flexible, simple to extend and resilient event-driven and API-bases architectures defining the integration patterns, services, data models and the business rules to implement solutions able to evolve and react to the new business needs or, better, being proactively an enabler for the business.
• Lead the choices of components/packages being part of the domain continuously reviewing the industry trends and working with key vendors to ensure to provide industry-leading solutions and platform features
• Be part of the O&D leadership team and representing the department across the Group architectural boards and authorities caring the relationships with the other architectural teams
• Collaborate with the Product Owners, the business and tech stakeholders to define the business and operational capabilities , processes and data-driven automated workflows allowing us to efficiently deliver our one Platform vision, an essential enabler for the current and future Sky needs, through a value stream approach

What you'll bring:

• Significant experience on Media/telco IT solution design including mission-critical 24/7 systems and integrations developments in complex/international environments.
• Preferred experiences on Broadcasting domain like TV Contribution, Origination and Content processing distribution solutions
• Knowledge on technologies, tools and methodologies for the SW solution design (API first event driven design, data driven automation, data streams, system integration patterns, microservices architectures, cloud solutions)
• Experience with public cloud platforms such as AWS and GCP to implement large-scale solutions based on microservices and serverless architectures of distributed services .
• Proven skills on DB modelling and technologies (RDBMS, NoSQL DBs, Cloud native DBs)
• Deep expertise of media codecs, video, and audio packaging technologies, encryption and DRM systems and supply chain processes and orchestration
• Business processes analysis, Agile and DevOps methodologies (Scrum, SAFE,…) experience
• Attitude to problem solving and a work style driven by objectives, market awareness, knowledge sharing, collaboration and accountability with a passion for technical excellence, business value and the customer satisfaction
• Strong collaborative leadership, communications and active listening skills to engage people on the transformation of our Platforms
• Very good level of English both spoken and written
• Available to travel in and outside Europe

Your new role

You will join as the Senior Electrical Engineer in the London office. Taking lead of the electrical design process, working closely with your Director, and managing a small team of 4 electrical engineers. A key aspect of your role will be to take a lead role on projects, overseeing more junior members of staff and ensuring quality design is achieved. You will also have an external focus on business development and client management, looking to develop existing relationships and bring in new business where possible.

What you'll need to succeed

You will be an experienced electrical design specialist, with experience working at a senior level within the consultancy environment. Equally, if you're are an experienced Intermediate Electrical Engineer looking for a step-up, this role may also be suitable. You will have experience leading on a variety of projects. Ideally, you will have experience on residential, commercial or pharmaceutical projects, however this is not essential. Ideally, you will be charted with CIBSE or a comparable institute, although this isn't essential.

JOB PURPOSE

Working across an Assets and Connections Portfolio you will produce and assure high quality electrical designs to an agreed scope. Designs to be delivered to cost, time and quality targets.

All designs must meet UK Power Networks design and CDM standards. These designs could be for both non-contestable and contestable works.

You will work as part of a diverse team providing design technical excellence.

PRINCIPLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Produce Electrical Designs that can be constructed in compliance with standards and CDM requirements and assure others designs.

• Deliver designs which conform to all relevant Codes of Practice and company and industry standards (for all designs relevant to UKPN Sub-stations) together with Electrical Design.

• You will contribute to the production of technical, commercial, and contractual documents for procurement of engineering products.

• Ensure compliance with all relevant legislation, regulations, and company procedures.

• Compliance with design assurance and audit processes.

• Prepare concept and developed design, from specifications and drawings within defined periods.

• Provide an excellent service to the customer.

• Work as a Team Player within larger diverse teams.

• Collaborate with the operational teams to guarantee a smooth process from initial enquiry through to final energisation and project closure.

• Comply with the requirements of the designer / principal designer as determined by the 2015 CDM Regulations.

• Ensure design eliminates any hazards which may give rise to risks; and reduce risks from any remaining hazards (together with CDM).

• Support and mentor other members of the team to enhance their experience.

Qualifications

• Electrical engineering experience in electrical engineering. Knowledge of power system and protection design at 132KV, 33KV, 11KV, and intermediate voltages.

• Knowledge of design processes and relevant DNO, ENA and International Design Standards including relevant operational aspects to deliver designs.

• Work with external engineering organisations and customers/partners representing UKPN to best effect.

• Capable of final approval of designs in specific area.

• A good safety culture and sound understanding of Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations and their application in this role.

• Work unsupervised, set and comply with own targets, and implement innovative cost-saving solutions.

• Good team working skills.

• A good level of business, environmental, safety, financial, and regulatory awareness.

• A general appreciation of financial reporting systems.

• Knowledge of project management.

• Proficient in the use of Microsoft desktop applications, in particular: Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint.

• Proficient in the use of AutoCAD and or Micro station.

• Awareness of current and technological developments in distribution plant and equipment.

• Broad knowledge of cables and overhead lines.

• Input into innovative construction ideas and techniques, which feed into UK Power Networks Green Action Plan.

• Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science.

• Chartered Engineer or working towards achieving Chartership.

DIMENSIONS

You will undertake site visits as part of this role, and this will include entry to operational substations where compliance with safety rules and procedures is mandatory.
