We've been on a journey over the last few years to enhance our in-house IT capability - and our Digital Manufacturing teams are proud of the increased service level we now offer our business.
What You'll Be Doing
In this role as an Entry-Level Manufacturing Data Scientist, you'll rapidly become an integral part of our collaborative, multidisciplinary team dedicated to supporting digital transformation within the Australian manufacturing businesses. You'll be instrumental in implementing cutting-edge machine learning models within the production environment. Your responsibilities will span the entire spectrum of Machine Learning Operations (MLOps) from conceptualisation, actual deployment and production of the models you assist in creating. We're looking for someone with a unique blend of business acumen, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and fundamental Python programming skills. Exposure to heavy engineering/manufacturing processes and a background in data-related skills will be invaluable, as you'll be utilizing machine learning and various data-driven techniques to optimize and elevate steel manufacturing processes.
Your Impactful Role
As a Manufacturing Data Scientist, you will play a key role in our machine learning projects throughout their development stages. You'll be a vital team member, responsible for:
- Developing robust data and ML pipelines for training and deploying ML models
- Writing efficient and effective code, contributing significantly to the model development process.
- Ensuring the solidity of the code and models as projects progress, meeting agreed-upon standards.
- Meeting production requirements for model monitoring, drift detection, and retraining.
- Documenting data pipelines and transformations meticulously.
- Creating comprehensive model documentation.
Your collaborative spirit will shine as you work closely with IT, OT, and the broader digital team to deploy models into production and seamlessly integrate them with existing systems.
Your Profile
We understand you might not be an industry expert yet, and that's okay. We have an internal support network ready to assist your learning journey. What we value most is your passion for machine learning, artificial intelligence, and visual AI within the heavy manufacturing sector. Maybe you come from an engineering or computer science background and are eager to transition into the field of Data Science. We're seeking a team player with:
- An inherent ability to deliver data-driven solutions and proficiency in leading data science tools.
- A recognised degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, or related Sciences.
- Strong communication skills, allowing you to articulate complex ideas to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Previous exposure to Data Science or Machine Learning, although not mandatory, would be advantageous.
- Basic coding skills, preferably in Python, would be beneficial.
- Familiarity with AZURE cloud-based systems would be viewed favourably.
- While you don't need to be a data engineer, having some knowledge of SQL and an understanding of databases would be helpful.
If you're excited about making an impact through data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence in the realm of heavy manufacturing, we encourage you to apply. Your journey toward becoming a proficient Data Scientist starts here!
