Job Description:

1. Cleanliness Inspections of various shore tanks, ships tanks or any other form of object used for the transportation of minerals oils, chemicals and petrochemicals.
2. Determination of quantity and quality of above mentioned goods by measuring physical bulk, temperature, metering, draft survey or any other means and in combination needed to ascertain said quantity.
3. Per Shipment Inspection
4. Sampling of the above goods as per international or other standards and putting correct labelling and storage.
5. The nature of work is demand orientated and often outside normal working hours, therefore a high degree of flexibility is required.
6. Communicate with the office regularly to update on field activity in progress.
7. Ensure compliance to all requirements as outlined by the office.
8. To abide by the company rules, procedures and guidelines or those in force upon whichever site or vessel the inspector is working.

Primary Function:

To perform independent inspection of oil and petrochemicals products. Perform quantity analysis through calculation methods. Monitor the sampling of bulk liquid cargoes in line with international standards and/or in-house procedures. Conduct training of new trainees within the department as assigned by management. Ensure that all terminal/refinery regulations are followed at all times.

Principal Duties/ Responsibilities:

•Follow instruction provided by the Operations Executive (OE) with respect to the job. To review the job file prior to inspection ensuring all instructions are in order. Any doubts should be clarified and resolved with the respective OE before proceeding with the job.

•Check with port operations, agents and terminals for arrival and berthing status of vessels.

•To be present in the location on time or at least 30 minutes before start of job. Prepare all necessary tools, instruments and documentation needed to perform inspection.

•Supervise loading, unloading and transhipment of bulk liquid product, crude and gas tankers.

•Monitor and/or carry out proper reference sampling of various liquid and gas cargoes, with assistance of local crew.

•Inspect shore tanks, ships' tanks, related pumps and lines for cleanliness and perform wall wash when required.

•Measure shore tanks and ships' tanks and determine volumes and weights of cargo.

•Initiate necessary action to prevent possible contamination during loading or unloading.

•Reconcile any variance after loading or discharging.

•Record all timings and occurrences during loading or discharging and issue NOAD or LOP to Chief Officer or Terminal.

•Update Operations Executives on the daily activities in the terminal including special circumstances and problems encountered during inspection.

•Highlight to terminal and vessel personnel on any possible discrepancies and contamination during loading and discharging. Suggest implementation of preventive measures.

•Create field report legibly and check/organise them before handing over to Operations Executive.

•Provide guidance to trainee or junior inspectors when on the job.

•Ensure all work done is in accordance with Inspectorate Fair Trade Policy.

•Maintain equipment, apparatus and bicycle used. Ensure only calibrated equipment are used for inspection. Bring back equipment to office 10 days before due for calibration.

•To perform any other task as assigned by Senior Management.

Job Requirements

• Education: Minimum NITEC or G.C.E ‘O’ Level or ‘N’ Level or SEAFARER on Tankers; and/or

• Experience: Minimum 6 months in petroleum surveying; and

• Basic knowledge & skills in sampling, gauging, temperature taking and calculations according to API MPMS standards;

• Required to work outdoors on land and at sea.

The surveyor (Trainee contract)is on a 1-year training program to learn how we perform our classification services. The program includes office work and field work. During the training period the trainee does not have authorization to work independently and will as such always be accompanied by a qualified DNV surveyor or DNV technical expert.

The trainee surveyor shall hold a Master’s Degree within Naval architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or Marine Engineering from a reputable university and is selected based on merits from university and personal qualifications and suitability.

Daily tasks include:

1. Conduct Class and Statutory surveys on fleet-in-service ships and floating offshore structures under supervision of a trainer.

2. To assist with the preparation of technically accurate and timely reports.

3. To carry out other technical jobs under supervision, as assigned by the fleet-in-service planner.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

• Perform certification and verification activities for oil & gas and renewable facilities starting from design to commissioning phases, as well as operation phases of the project. The activities include, but may not be limited to:
• Design review of documents submitted by the clients for the facilities related to the discipline.
• Perform site verification for the construction, installation, testing, pre-commissioning and commissioning activities – both onshore and offshore.
• Provide review comments and following up on the comments until the comments are satisfactorily resolved.
• Communicate and liaise with other team members, client representatives and other relevant stakeholders to complete the verification and certification processes.
• Provide technical advisory and consultancy on the topics within the expertise for the projects where required.
• Act as project manager for projects within the unit, mainly related to verification and certification services, as well as involve multi-discipline, cross-units, cross-countries, cross-regions. Liaise with DNV management, DNV project team members, client, client’s client, and other relevant stakeholders to successfully manage the project within the given budget and schedule to meet agreed quality and expectations.
• Act as bid manager for tenders related to the services offered within the unit. Prepare and consolidate input from multiple sources as well as from the team members to finalize the bid and getting the management approval to deliver the bid on time.
• Having regular face-to-face or virtual communication and networking with customers, chairing internal and external meetings, as well as interfacing with other units, so as to strengthen or build up customer relations and secure project opportunities utilizing DNV’s global resources for the growth of unit.
• Coach junior team members to attain the competence within the discipline to work together on the projects. Conduct sharing knowledge sessions within the unit and / or extended audiences within the company where relevant.
• Attend training courses (internal and external) as required to attain the competence in areas required by the unit to capture the opportunities and contribute to the business development within the unit.
• Drive the individual development plan and follow up to excel the capability, knowledge and skill set to support the unit’s business.

Minimum Qualifications

• At least 6-7 years experience within O&G and/or shipbuilding, renewable energy industry as a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Engineering/Consultancy or Construction firms.
• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. A Master’s degree in a related engineering discipline will be an added advantage.

Knowledge and Skills Requirements

• Familiarity with Oil & Gas processing equipment and machinery, particularly pressure vessels, heat exchangers, rotating machines, and process piping systems.
• Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations related to mechanical engineering and the specific industry (e.g., ASME codes, ISO standards, EU Directives).
• Experienced in engineering design review and site-based inspection.
• Strong command of engineering software tools, simulation software, and project management tools is advantageous.
• Understanding the principles and limitations of Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods. Holding qualifications in welding inspection (e.g., CSWIP, AWS welding inspector) provides an added advantage.
• Strong command of spoken and written English.

• End to end data engineer
