• Provide medical input as required to patients under care of the Community Mental Health Team and will attend CPAs for enhanced patients and provide urgent assessment/advice as required.
• Lead regularly on screening of new referrals to the team (rotational responsibility between the Consultants).
• The post holder would be expected to actively participate in service/team evaluation and the planning of future service developments.
• Empowers the team to resolve local issues on a daily basis using the tools and method of quality improvement without staff having to seek permission.
• To manage, appraise and give professional supervision to junior medical staff as agreed between consultant colleagues and the medical director and in accordance with the Trust’s personnel policies and procedures. This may include assessing competences under the Modernising Medical Careers framework.
• To participate in service and business planning activity for the locality and, as appropriate, for the whole mental health service.
• The postholder will join the Consultant on-call rota. This is currently 1:30 (non residential) and is remunerated with a 3% category A supplement and 0.5 PA in addition to 10 PA sessions.

The Community Rehabilitation Service provides a flexible range of mental health interventions to help clients complex mental health needs to manage their mental health more effectively and remain in their own homes. The Forensic Outreach and Liaison Service is a service for Kent, providing a safe, effective and timely pathway from medium/low secure care into the community, for people requiring ongoing specialist forensic mental health care following a secure inpatient admission. The service will provide ongoing care and support for those individuals requiring specialist intervention to address risks and psychological needs and works to support social care needs, which if these failed could potentially lead to relapse and reoffending.

The service is within the South East, Adult Secure Services, New Care Model and will work in parity and close partnership with Surrey and Sussex Forensic Services.

As a Consultant Psychiatrist in Liaison Psychiatry based at Tunbridge Wells Hospital and Maidstone Hospital in Kent, you will be responsible for delivering a high-quality clinical service and actively involved in the strategic development of the team and broader services.

Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is a large acute hospital trust providing a full range of general hospital services to around 500,000 people living in the South of West Kent and parts of North East Sussex. The Liaison Psychiatry Service provides a single point of contact for the mental health needs of patients attending the Emergency Department or admitted to the general hospital.

In this role, you will be working jointly with another Consultant Liaison Psychiatrist and share operational and clinical leadership to ensure that the sites are suitably covered.

Successful applicants will ideally have MRCPsych or equivalent and be on, or within six months of inclusion on, the Specialist Register. You will be fully registered with the GMC, and have Approved Clinician status and S12 approval under the Mental Health Act (or achieve this within 3 months of appointment).
• To provide psychiatric care to patients referred to the Liaison Psychiatry Service
• To provide professional leadership including clinical supervision to the medical team and to provide clinical leadership to the Liaison Multidisciplinary Team
• To ensure effective liaison occurs between mental health services and the acute hospital, and also with other agencies in the voluntary and statutory sectors as appropriate
• To act as a Responsible Clinician (Approved Clinician status) for patients detained under the MHA to the acute trust

It’s an exciting time to join us: KMPT has been rated Outstanding for Caring and Good overall in our most recent CQC inspection. We are excited to be offering a secondment opportunity for an 8b Clinical/Counselling Psychologist or Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist operational lead to our MHT+ Psychological Therapies Services for working age adults with severe and complex mental health difficulties in Medway. The post is a fixed-term secondment for 23 months and you will be working closely with the Clinical Lead for North Kent. We would be particularly keen to hear from those with experience working with adults with severe and enduring mental health problems, those with operational and managerial experience, or those in established 8a/8b posts and ready to develop these competencies and skills.

You will join a dynamic team of 6 qualified clinicians – clinical psychology, psychoanalytic and CBT, Art and Psychodrama psychotherapies. The post requires you to lead the team on peer supervision and a monthly CPD space. We have good liaison with the local doctoral training course in Clinical Psychology with Chris Church University and other psychotherapy educational organizations and have a rotation of first and third year trainees' placements available annually.

You will have operational lead responsibilities for the service, and manage those in the team. Your will have your own caseload of assessment, individual and group interventions. Experience of Mentalisation based psychotherapy, Structured Clinical Management and EMDR are welcome in addition to core training competencies. Formal HEE funded training will be available for those interested. In addition to expected delivery of psychological therapy you will have leadership roles developing the Pathway of Care with colleagues in the wider team, delivering training and supervision, and you will be working collaboratively with those in the wider team in line with the CMH Framework and the Transformation and working closely with the lead of the service to develop these agendas.

As the service works closely with the wider team there is ample opportunity to learn about organisational dynamics and delivery of care. As a senior team member you will be part of the Psychological Therapies leadership team, representing our service in meetings, discussing appropriateness of referrals with the wider community team and influencing service delivery. The service meets weekly for peer supervision and business/clinical governance, and has a CPD programme on a monthly basis to develop further.

The successful candidate will hold a doctoral qualification in clinical or counselling psychology, or equivalent for psychotherapists, experience in secondary care and management, and have membership with relevant organisation such as HCPC, BABCP, BPC or UKCP.
