The Education Branch oversees budget, legislative, policy, and management issues relating to the Department of Education, the Institute of Museum and Library Sciences, the National Council on Disability, and other related small agencies. The Branch covers programs addressing pre-K, K-12 and higher education. PreK-12 programs include assistance to States for high-poverty schools and to meet the special educational needs of students with disabilities; programs that address student mental health; assistance to support teachers and increase the teacher pipeline; and assistance for career and technical education. Higher education programs include Federal Pell Grants and the postsecondary student loan programs. The Branch also oversees the education research agency and national educational statistics.

As a Chief Education Branch, some of your typical work assignments may include:

• Coordinating the formulation and administration of the President's Budget for departments and agencies in the Branch's purview, and leading the review and analysis of appropriations action and execution of enacted appropriations.
• Performing and supervising legislative, economic, management, and organizational analysis for assigned program area.
• Supervising a highly competent staff of program examiners, including by planning, directing, and assigning work; evaluating performance; coaching and advising employees; and leading recruiting and hiring.
• Advising the Deputy Associate Director on issues in the Branch's purview, including by identifying issues and problems that require attention and presenting the need for administrative and legislative changes.
• Reviewing and advising on preparation of formal documents, such as the Budget, State of the Union messages, special messages, veto messages, and executive orders.

Starting at $147,649 Per Year (ES 00)

• Utilize supply and logistic support systems for standard requisitioning, stock, storing, records and issuing procedures.
• Verify and record serial numbers upon receipt of goods, bar codes items.
• Assure school support requirements are prepared, edited, and submitted to the Area Director's office for the purchase of supplies and equipment.
• Serve as property custodian maintaining a perpetual inventory of non-expendable property and supply records for durable items in the school.
• Assist Area and District personnel with physical security inspections to ensure adequate security measures are in place and adhered to.
• Assure all supply transactions are recorded in an automated system and that copies of documents are file appropriately to maintain an adequate automated and hard-copy audit trail.
• Set or revise stock levels for authorized items available through the supply system.
• Assist in monitoring the school safety and security programs to ensure compliance with program requirements of DoDEA and the supporting military installation.

Starting at $39,576 Per Year (GS 5-6)

Major duties include but are not limited to the following:

• Responsible for working with the DVAHCS Education Department and OAA in establishing affiliations with university audiology and speech pathology clinics. This includes conferring with several university department chairpersons, faculty clinic program directors, and university legal counsel for agreement compliance.
• Maintains a database of all university of affiliates with their respective contacts including university accreditation information.
• Possesses the Certificate of Clinical Competence in Audiology (CCC-A) from ASHA and/or is a Fellow of AAA (F-AAA) until obtaining their CCC-A, and serves as the Point of Contact for all university matters including disciplinary and grading actions.
• Develops and maintains an Audiology and Speech Pathology training handbook with the policies and procedures of the DVAMC and the ASPS Service.
• Develops and provides initial training program for all Audiology students and arranges training for Speech Pathology students to include:

1. Hospital policies and procedures
2. Introduction to each of the services provided within the clinic
3. Infection Control and RME procedures for each piece of equipment
4. Training on each piece of equipment located within the respective clinics
5. Criteria for referral to other clinics or specialty testing within /outside of ASPS
6. Introduction to the disciplinary teams the Audiology and Speech Pathology students will rotate through

• Coordinates and mentors students to complete hearing screening exams for Police, Boiler Plant and other employees as requested by Occupational Health Service.
• Requests input from all staff on student progress and signs off on all clinic contact hours for students per affiliation (written, electronic TYPON system, or other applications).
• Maintains contact with affiliate at least twice per semester (mid-term and final evaluations) and arranges for site visits from University affiliates as needed.

About the role

You will help to deliver an innovative neuro-oncology research project; developing a new preclinical in vivo model of NF2-null meningioma and investigating immunotherapies. The project involves using single-cell RNA-sequencing and murine models of NF2-null tumours, patient-derived xenograft drug screening and validation with a variety of wet-lab techniques. This role is advertised on a fixed-term basis for 2.5 years due to external funding.

The role will be ideally suited to an early-career researcher who is motivated to join a vibrant neuro-oncology research community at the University of Plymouth’s Brain Tumour Research centre of excellence.

Essential:

• Ph.D (or close to completion) in neuro-oncology, immunology or other closely related and relevant subject.
• Competence in a variety of laboratory techniques.
• Extensive knowledge of cancer cell biology and tumour-associated immune cells.
• Skill in protocol development and optimisation.

Desirable:

• Experience in animal research and/or UK Home Office PIL A/B + C (rodents).
• Experience in single-cell RNA-sequencing and/or other omics techniques.
• Bioinformatics skills.
• First-author publications and/or other demonstrable research impacts.

Our Research:

The Parkinson lab’s neuro-oncology research focus centres around NF2-null nervous system tumours; meningioma, schwannoma and ependymoma. We have access to an excellent biobank of primary tumour cells, and use genetic and xenograft murine models to drive translational preclinical research.

Peninsula Medical School:

Our laboratory is based in the Derriford Research Facility within the Peninsula Medical School and contains state-of-the-art facilities for delivering this project including a confocal microscopy suite and biological services unit. Our facility is supported by the Brain Tumour Research charity as a Centre of Excellence.

Your new role
You will be as a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, to support a child with additional learning needs. You will be the key person for this student and work closely with the classroom teacher and SENCO on a daily basis to provide support within the classroom and other daily duties.

This role is Monday-Friday, starting at 8:30am, starting as soon as possible.
