• Compiles and assesses referrals for youth substance use disorder treatment at the GPAYRTC.
• The incumbent provides and documents therapeutic and other clinical services to include individualized treatment and discharge/aftercare plans.
• The incumbent provides updates to staff about admissions, help staff both track and ensure residents appropriateness prior to admitting.
• The incumbent makes aftercare/discharge arrangements and coordinates the distribution of all authorized records to be released.
• Provides consultation and training to staff members and the community in regards to admissions, aftercare, and treatment services to GPAYRTC, IHS, and the community.

Duties include, but not limited to:

Provide individualized massage therapy treatment
Utilizes standard patient evaluation procedures to formulate a treatment plan.
Incorporates various massage therapy and bodywork techniques taught within their professional education.
Provides Advanced massage therapy services of greater complexity applied to specialty populations in various clinical/environmental settings with limited supervision and coordinates follow up care as indicated.

Provide massage therapy instruction, education and training
Provides massage therapy instruction for self-care to patient and family as determined appropriate.
Educates patients on healthy lifestyle including hydration, basic nutrition, stretching, exercise, mind-body techniques, sleep habits, stress management and other matters related to massage therapy care.

Complete clinical notes in electronic health record system
Documents and codes information related to patient care in the VA's electronic health care record on a timely basis following established polices.
Makes sure consent is completed prior to treatment in accordance with local requirements.

Maintain trainings and attends required meetings
Maintains up-to-date with VHA and professional trainings.
Attends required professional meetings.

Research and quality improvement
Participates in research and quality improvement activities related to massage therapy.
Uses various communication techniques to encourage and educate individuals and groups to enhance massage therapy outcomes.

Administration
Reviews patient referrals to screen for appropriateness of care and direct Veterans to other services when necessary
Subject matter expert o massage therapy and related body work services and will provide guidance when requested regarding purchased care.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:00pm

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Preferred Experience: Experience working with CITC, the Referral Coordination Team, and/or referral coordination in another capacity. Vast experience with conflict resolution.

Major Duties:

1. Performs comprehensive evaluations directed at ascertaining the patient's functional status, rehabilitation needs, goals, and rehabilitation potential.
2. Reviews patient medical records to assess appropriateness of physical therapy intervention, note any potential risks or contraindications to treatment and to assist in guiding the evaluation process.
3. Establishes therapeutic agendas that are age-appropriate and which are based on the patient's identified deficits and expressed goals.
4. Independently modifies goals and treatment based on response to care.
5. Schedules patients for evaluation in such a manner as to not negatively impact other clinical staff, yet meet the patients' needs.
6. Provides therapeutic interventions, which focus on posture, locomotion, strength, endurance, balance, coordination, joint mobility and flexibility.
7. Performs appropriate cleansing and re-processing of reusable medical equipment in compliance with VHA directives and SOPs.
8. Completes evaluations such as medical history, results and interpretation of appropriate functional tests and measurements, as well as to address rehabilitation potential, behavior, motor skills, cognition, and psychosocial development at an age appropriate level.
9. Plans and facilitates treatment programs for patients with complex impairments and providing therapeutic interventions to meet functional goals.
10. Supervises and trains students, volunteers, therapy assistants, therapists and non-PT students and support personnel.
