The Project Manager will lead part of a major freight loco retrofit project for the UK rail industry, focusing on decarbonization and digitalization for Network Rail. They will oversee a delivery team, collaborating closely with the ETCS On Board and Engineering teams. Responsible for delivering project objectives on quality, costs, and time, they will work with various Siemens teams and suppliers to implement ETCS solutions for Freight Operating Companies. What are my responsibilities?
- Safe Delivery of the Project with a target of Zero Accidents or Incidents. Driving safety culture into all activities undertaken on the Project.
- Collaborate and take the lead in communication between the project team, the client, and Freight operators establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship
- Responsible for the delivery of specific work packages and support the other Project Managers and the Senior Project Manager with the delivery of the overall Programme
- Monitor Project progress identifying and mitigating risks and Issues and escalating where appropriate within Management
- Working closely with the engineering team members in the UK and Germany, project groups, the lines of business and heads of technology throughout the business, to ensure that the project design solutions meet our customers' needs now, and in the future
- Providing key input and ideas to help determine the most appropriate technical, product and commercial solutions within the given geographical and technical environment.
- Responsibility for managing the Contractual Scope of Supply throughout the Project Lifecycle through the implementation of the Change Management Process and the approval of any changes to scope, Programme and/or budget

- Experience of delivery of projects through the full project life cycle (essential)

- Development and implementation of innovative project execution strategies (essential)
- Management of Project Control function covering Planning, Estimating, Financial Control and commercial management disciplines (essential)
- Proven ability to lead and drive a multi-disciplinary project team, including installation and test teams, ensuring delivery of all contractual outputs to cost and to plan (essential)
- Project Management skills - strong understanding of the hard and soft aspects of programme management. Possess high degree of emotional intelligence and the ability to build consensus (essential)
- Definition and monitoring of key performance indicators
- Commercial awareness and aptitude - able to contribute to commercial and contractual issues, drawing upon past experience with railway / engineering contracts (essential)
- Exposure to a highly regulated engineering industry, of which some time should have been in a project role
- Experience in managing subcontractors throughout the whole project lifecycle
- Proven experience of this type of role within the rail or similar industry of implementing ETCS and/or CBTC systems is desirable
Qualifications and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, Electrical Engineering, or demonstrable experience
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in rolling stock engineering projects
