The Communications Manager will identify rich content in NNL and opportunities and channels to deliver quality communications that showcase the science, technology and innovation at our core; to enhance our reputation for delivering nuclear science that benefits society.

A keen interest in Science and Technology, they will lead communication of our science and technology working closely with the VP Science and Technology; maximising content through creation of integrated plans that reach a variety of audiences - internally and externally - whilst working as part of an integrated comms team to reflect NNL strategy and ambitions.

From developing strategies, sourcing stories and creating compelling science communication, to managing our communications channels and roadmaps; this is a varied role that will play a key part telling NNL's story.

The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Preston, Sellafield, Workington or Culham.

Main Responsibilities for Communications Manager:

• Development and deliver communications strategy, which amplifies NNL's science and technology capabilities consistently across all internal and external communications channels.
• Define and deliver an integrated communications plan to communicate key science and technology areas in NNL.
• Be a proactive and enthusiastic member of the NNL comms and public affairs team and develop strong relationships with the S&T community.
• Identify rich content from within the organisation; and use this to write, edit, design and deliver engaging content for distribution across a variety of internal and external communications channels.
• Define clear and consistent communication messages for a variety internal and external audiences, based on sound understanding of target audience groups.
• Create high-quality and creative campaigns to showcase the variety of science, technology and innovation delivered by our organisation to a variety of audiences.
• Drive innovation in science comms by identifying and developing new ways to engage a variety of audiences in science.
• Deliver a strong and timely pipeline of planned communication activity that provides proof points to reinforce NNL's strategy and focus areas and ensure NNL is visible to the right stakeholders.
• Lead production of key science engagement activities and publications, including our NuClear Science: Webcast series, case studies, reports, videos and articles to name a few.
• Demonstrate effective engagement through development of regular reports that evaluate activity and monitor progress; and provides insight that informs our direction and demonstrates the value of science communication.

Essential Criteria for Communications Manager:

• Experience in technical and or scientific environments, with ability to define clear and consistent messages; taking complex content to simple effective communications.
• Experience of delivering strategic communications plans and multi - channel communication campaigns; internally and externally.
• Experience of leading multiple communications projects in a busy team with the ability to handle competing deadlines.
• Creative writing skills with the ability to develop human, engaging copy that connects with its audiences.
• Organisation skills and experience of managing communications roadmaps and plans.
• Good influencing and communication skills
• Experience working with suppliers, providing detailed briefings and guidance to lead to production of engaging content and events.
• Ability to build a wide range of good working relationships across professional and operational boundaries and at all levels, including senior management and external stakeholders.
• Experience of evaluating impact of communications activity through quantitative and qualitative methods.
• Demonstrable experience in communications roles.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

This new Macmillan service aims to ensure that adults affected cancer experience excellent psychosocial care wherever they are on the cancer pathway. This is an integrated whole system model for identifying and providing psychosocial support across the cancer landscape.

Active service user involvement is fundamental to the service aim to support personalised comprehensive care and support for people affected by cancer in our population through:

Timely & equitable access to appropriate level 1-4 (NICE, 2004) mental health support integrated with cancer care clinical pathways
• Improved coordination, proactive and integrated psycho-social support across primary, community, social and acute settings
• Psychosocial education and support for health care professionals (including collaborative learning and reflection sessions) and ensuring continuous development and improvement of the psychological care approach
• Improved integrated support for people with learning disabilities and pre-existing mental health conditions with cancer

This service has been funded collaboratively by Macmillan and Lancashire and South Cumbria Cancer Alliance with the support of Lancashire and South Cumbria ICB.

The post holder will be the Project Manager for the Macmillan Psychosocial Pathway for Lancashire and South Cumbria and will work autonomously, referring to the Pathway Lead and Macmillan Pathway project Lead when required. The post holder will have overall responsibility for the integrity and coherence of the pathway.

There will be three main elements of this role: project management, gathering information/data as the evidence base for the Macmillan Psychosocial Pathway and stakeholder engagement.

Responsible for supporting the Macmillan Pathway project Lead to deliver the objectives of the pathway, working with a range of internal and external stakeholders both across Lancashire and South Cumbria.

Maintain all related project documents for the project in line with LSCFT and Macmillan requirements and organisational standards. To help develop digital solutions which work across LTHTR, UHMB and third sector.

Responsible for coordinating the gathering, analysing, and reporting of information and the evidence base for cancer performance activity, pathways, services and patient experiences in Lancashire and South Cumbria and in commissioned providers and across the local authority to inform the development of the models of care.

Develop communications and support engagement plans for the Psychosocial Pathway Project and manage their effective implementation.

NNL is looking for a high calibre, motivated and experienced individual to be part of the Effluent, Environmental and Decontamination Chemistry management team and support the delivery of customer funded work by the laboratory team based at the NNL Preston facility. The team is part of the Waste Management and Decommissioning (WM&D) capability within NNL, which delivers commercial R&D to help solve a wide range of challenges in the nuclear industry. The team covers a broad range of laboratory-based projects and activities focussed on the development of innovative characterisation and decontamination technology and ideas that can be deployed within radioactive environments. The size of the laboratory-based team is expected to grow in the coming years and there is the need to increase the number of personnel with the authority and accountability for management of experimental laboratory operations in this area.

NNL is looking for an experienced scientist with an aptitude and enthusiasm for management and a willingness to learn a new skill set and gain experience in a management role, to join a growing team and deliver an exciting programme of work for our customers. This role will give you the opportunity to develop your management skills while still delivering high quality technical work.

The role will directly support the Capability Leader with the management and development of the area, along with providing technical capability to support delivery of customer funded research project. The post holder will work closely with the Technical Leads, to ensure the team are mobilised for effective project delivery.

They will also produce the required safety and compliance documentation to support those activities, undertaking the required training to be able to work safely and effectively in our unique laboratories at the NNL Preston Laboratory, applying their knowledge to some key projects and programmes.

Main Responsibilities for Technical Delivery Manager:

• Carry out the day-to-day line management activities for a small number of the Technical Team (principally Performance Management and Development Reviews and training, etc.).
• Support the Capability Leader in the delivery of the WM&D EHSS&Q Improvement and Assurance Plans and local Capability Strategy.
• Liaise with project managers to ensure effective planning and scheduling of team projects.
• Liaise with key internal and external stakeholders to ensure all enabling activities are planned and delivered effectively (including equipment maintenance, preparation of permissioning documentation, procurement of equipment and consumables).
• Lead the development and application of appropriate technical and managerial processes and systems in their working area.
• Work alongside Technical Leads to develop project scopes and estimates based on customer requirements.
• Develop, define and carry out experimental work programmes to meet agreed objectives (dependent on experience).
• Provision of technical advice and guidance issues appropriate to their working area.
• Oversee the work of others and provide coaching to develop the skills and abilities of others for the benefit of the company.
• Act as Area Owner for specific areas of the facility, taking "ownership" of those designated areas, ensuring that the "look and feel" lives up to NNL's values and expectations and be the single point of contact for stewardship of that area.

Essential Criteria for Technical Delivery Manager:

• Minimum undergraduate degree in a relevant scientific subject; preferably Chemistry.
• Experience of developing the scope of technical development projects to meet customer requirements.
• Experience of taking a lead role in successfully delivering technical development projects to meet customer requirements.
• Experience of taking a customer focussed approach to project delivery, with a pro-active approach to troubleshooting and the ability to actively engage with stakeholders to identify solutions to operational issues.
• Excellent communicator with the ability to build relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
• Experience of supervising and supporting the development of junior team members.
• Experience of working in an operational environment (laboratory or plant).
• Demonstrable commitment to achieving high levels of safety and quality.
• Demonstrable commitment to own personal development and seeking out and sharing new knowledge.
• Demonstrable commitment to continuous improvement.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Technical Delivery Manager:

• Line management experience.
• Chartered membership of a relevant professional institute.
• Experience of working in the nuclear industry.
• Experience in the fields of decontamination and / or radiochemistry would be an advantage, alternatively experience in a related field with evidence of the ability to quickly assimilate new technical knowledge.

- Leading shifts and deputising for the Registered Manager where required
- Ensuring that our incredible team of Residential Care Workers are up to date with all mandatory learning and assisting with their individual development
- Communicating with the on-site team and raising awareness with regards to individual care plans and their implementation
- Maintaining accurate written records in logs, continuation sheets and files both to record information and enable regular monitoring and evaluation to take place
- Contributing to team and staff meetings to facilitate good communication and staff development
- Providing support and care to the young people within our services
- Encouraging our young people in their preparation to re-enter education or to engage in their current schooling
- Traveling with our young people to and from School or College
- Preparing food at meal times and maintaining the home (cleaning, laundry etc.) throughout the day to ensure a wonderful environment for the young people in our care
- Organising and facilitating social activities
