Job Background/context:
Markets Treasury is responsible for managing Bank liquidity. Additionally, Markets Treasury manages and hedges significant interest rate and liquidity risk arising from the bank chain balance sheet utilizing a range of cash and derivative fixed income products, including a portfolio of high quality fixed income securities. The business additionally engages in selected secured lending activity. Markets Treasury is the primary interface for Markets users of the bank balance sheet, partnering all other Markets bank chain product groups to facilitate their accrual risk hedging and treasury requirements in order to develop the Treasury franchise, while working within a pre-determined transfer pricing framework, internal liquidity and price risk limits and related policies, along with the external regulatory frameworks applicable to the activities of the business.
Job Purpose:
Work within the Markets Treasury team based in Mexico, with a specific focus on the management of interest rate and FX risk across accrual Markets businesses.
The role requires managing global macro risks across currencies and product classes in order to maximize returns from hedging the underlying accrual banking book risks, including Volcker permitted prop risk taking within prescribed regulatory and internal risk limits by the execution of markets transactions and balance sheet strategies dedicated to managing the franchise from a liquidity and interest rate risk point of view. The role encompasses banking book interest rate and FX risk management and hedging, using cash, HQLA assets and derivative products, as appropriate, within permissible regulatory and internal frameworks and risk tolerances, to generate strong, stable returns and to efficiently manage activity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support Corporate Treasury on application of transfer pricing policies and SYC and manage the resulting interest rate risk transferred to LMT ensuring consistency with corporate policies.
- Actively manage the Bank’s investment portfolio including securities, derivatives and other financial instruments, in line with Franchise objectives.
- Development of analysis tools to improve investment portfolio returns based on markets evolution and position scenarios.
- Development and Implementation of new products or strategies to improve investment portfolio returns.
- Participate in the Country LMT financial plan --revenue, expense and return metrics for the LMT function.
- Provide regular market updates to regional and global business stakeholders, and participate in the top-down macro and business view around potential opportunities.
- Ensure thorough and effective oversight of the Local Markets Treasury risk exposures in the country including cross border, price, liquidity and credit risks.
- Drive operational and technology strategies needed to support the business growth and optimization, and mitigate operational risk.
- Ensure compliance over regulatory environment, risk management, liquidity and capital allocations in the country.
- Personally own, develop and strengthen control framework of the business.
- Work as a partner with Treasury (ALM, BSSO, Regional Treasury, GLM) and the broader Treasury business.
