We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated clinical research nurse to join our multidisciplinary team within the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility to undertake exciting research in stroke and dementia. You will work with the team to deliver clinical studies investigating the 18kDa Translocator Protein (TSPO) as a drug target for cerebral small vessel disease, the most common cause of vascular dementia, and Alzheimer’s disease. The research aims to address an immense unmet need in the management of vascular brain disease.

You will be based at the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility (CRF), a purpose-built unit at Hammersmith Hospital in West London. The facility is a partnership between Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Imperial College London, a world-leading research-intensive university. The CRF specialises in academic and commercial early phase clinical studies in various disease areas and provides a well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work collaboratively.

The post will involve regular travel to the memory service at Charing Cross Hospital for the recruitment of participants. You will have a key role in the day-to-day running of the studies, including recruitment, participant-facing activities and data collection. An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 clinical research nurse to join our multidisciplinary team within the NIHR Imperial Clinical Research Facility. The unit is a NHS research facility at Hammersmith Hospital in west London. It is located at the heart of one of the UK’s most research-intensive universities, Imperial College. It provides a dedicated, well-equipped and professional environment that enables medical staff and scientists to work together.

We are looking for a motivated, skilful and knowledgeable nurse who works well as part of a team. Knowledge of clinical research is necessary. Strong background of clinical skills (administration of intravenous drugs, phlebotomy and cannulation) is essential.

The unit specialises in commercial and academic early phase clinical studies in various disease areas including respiratory, renal, neurology, oncology and metabolic medicine as well as healthy volunteers’ trials. We host complex and challenging studies and we expect the post holder to adapt to the required flexibility of our portfolio.

Working with genetically modified organism medicines may be part of the activities you are involved in. You will always be provided with the required training and support to deliver the required care. WHRC is looking to appoint an experienced research midwife / nurse or experienced research practitioner to work on the Generation Study which is sponsored by Genomics England. The study focuses on screening neonates for approximately 200 rare conditions at birth using umbilical cord blood.

The postholder will assist with the effective running of the study, consenting participants and organising sample collection, whilst adhering to the principles of GCP. There may also be the opportunity to work on a variety of other projects.

The postholder of this new role will work within the WHRC research team and have the opportunity to develop specialist research skills in a dynamic environment. The ideal candidate will have research experience, have an interest in the improvement of women’s health, attention to detail and a willingness to work collaboratively.

What the school offers its staff

Swanshurst is a large, outstanding school for girls aged 11-19 years. We offer excellent support and CPD for staff at all stages of their career. Ofsted (May 2024) described our school to be “an exceptional place for pupils to learn”. They described the curriculum as “exemplary” and one which "explodes into life in the classroom". In relation to staff wellbeing, they noted that “The school is conscious of staff workload and well-being and is committed to achieving excellence in a sustainable way.”. We are exceptionally proud to have been judged ‘Outstanding’ in two consecutive inspections. Ofsted (2024) judged Swanshurst to be Outstanding for a second time. Our Ofsted report can be found here.

The school is currently working with two local high-performing secondary schools to form a new Multi-Academy Trust. West Midlands Academy Trust (WMAT) is expected to ‘open’ in January 2025. As one of the three founding members, the school has been integral to forming the Trust’s mission:
