Technical Services is seeking to appoint a Senior Technician with a strong background in the chemical analysis of soils, plants and water to support teaching and research in the School of Archaeology, Geography and Environmental Sciences. For prospective candidates with experience of operating, troubleshooting and maintaining analytical instrumentation (e.g., ICP-OES, GC, Elemental Analyser, Continuous Flow Analyser, Ion Chromatography, Cavity Ring Down Spectrophotometry), this post offers an exciting employment opportunity at the University of Reading that currently ranks very highly in the UK for research quality in Earth Systems and Environmental Science.

Joining a small team of technicians, the post holder will be responsible for the day-to-day running of a suite of wet chemistry and analytical laboratories. Candidates with an aptitude for demonstrating laboratory techniques to staff and students are encouraged to apply.

You will have:

- A science degree, HND, NVQ4 (or equivalent) or basic professional qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g., Chemistry, Physical Geography, Geochemistry). Candidates with a degree in a related subject (e.g., Biology, Plant Science, Bioscience) may also be considered if they have relevant experience in environmental analytical techniques.
- A broad knowledge across a range of laboratory techniques (ideally quite advanced in some areas), used in Earth Systems & Environmental Science.

Can we reduce the climate impacts of aircraft? As well as carbon dioxide, aircraft engines emit oxides of nitrogen (NOx). You will investigate how important these NOx emissions might be for climate and whether the climate effects are different in the northern and southern hemispheres. Do engine manufacturers need to reduce these NOx emissions?
The climate impact of aircraft is aggravated by the emissions of NOx. In the upper troposphere these emissions form ozone which is an important greenhouse gas, but they also increase the destruction of methane. The overall effect of aircraft NOx on climate is very uncertain. The ozone production is largest in the northern hemisphere, but the methane destruction is more even. Hence the net effect is likely to be different in the different hemispheres.
To work as part of a team within the NERC CRANE (Climate Response to Aviation NOx Emissions) project. This is a component of the NERC/Department for Transport programme – “Jet zero: aviation’s non-CO2 impacts on the climate”.
The main role is to set up and run simulations using the UK Earth system model (UKESM1.1), which includes representations of tropospheric and stratospheric chemistry, and to analyse the outputs from these. This will involve changing the emissions of NOx from aviation in the model to quantify how these changes affect the composition of the atmosphere (methane, ozone, stratospheric water vapour and aerosols), the radiative forcing and the full climate response on different hemispheres. This will be original research carried forward to publications in leading peer-reviewed journals, and presented at national and international scientific meetings.
The job holder will interact with project partners, attend project meetings, and contribute to the departmental research environment (e.g., seminars and group meetings).

- PhD or equivalent in physical sciences or applied mathematics, or be close to attaining one

The Role

Department Overview
 

Clinical Data Sciences is the function that manages the collection of clinical trial data and prepares it so it can be used for analysis to support a regulatory submission. It combines the disciplines of medical and scientific knowledge with IT skills including database design and system validation.

The CDS department is responsible for data management within Pfizer and ensures all clinical data is collected and managed to Good Clinical Practice and all associated regulations. CDS’s purpose is to deliver the right data, with integrity, on time, every time.

What can I achieve and what will I be responsible for whilst completing a placement at Pfizer?

As part of the Clinical Data Sciences group, an integral delivery unit within the Global Biometrics and Data Management (GBDM) organization, the Junior Data Manager is accountable for timely and high quality data review and query management of clinical data supporting the Pfizer portfolio.  The Junior Data Manager executes on key data management deliverables used to collect, review, monitor, and ensure the integrity of clinical data..

We are looking for Research Photographers who will support us as we build out an in-depth understanding of the Commercial Real Estate of Dusseldorf and surrounding areas. This role is responsible for ensuring that the CoStar products are representing the most current and accurate information and photographs on Commercial properties and listings through on-site inspections within the assigned geography. ROLE DESCRIPTION

We are looking for Research Photographers who will support us as we build out an in-depth understanding of the Commercial Real Estate of Duisburg and surrounding areas. This role is responsible for ensuring that the CoStar products are representing the most current and accurate information and photographs on Commercial properties and listings through on-site inspections within the assigned geography. Equipped with state-of-the-art equipment (Canon R6 and 17-35mm lens or similar, drone where applicable, iPad, laptop, Smartphone, Mobile Wi-Fi and traveling via foot/public transport or hybrid research vehicle when necessary) our Research Photographers canvas the market to identify and capture commercial listings, properties, building attributes, tenants and photographs not represented in the CoStar database. Research Photographers are remotely managed by a Photography Manager.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Drive or walk assigned submarkets within core territories to collect the required imagery, information and updates – including: identifying new availabilities, missing Inventory, updating construction status, adding up to date high resolution images where required.

• Cross-reference new leads with current information on CoStar database by researching sales and lease comparable data. Once satisfied that the information is new, collect building data and contact information on property and send to in-house Research team

• Photograph and collect building attribute data and contact information on all commercial properties with for lease and for sale signs working in entire assigned territory

• While in front of the targeted property, collect all visible data fields about the property including, but not limited to, the address, building type, # of stories, gross building area, building height, industrial loading information, retail specific details

• Use Adobe software suite to post process digital images

• Create footprint and rooftop geocode for each building using polygon tool in field mapping software

• Associate any assigned tenant locations to polygon, and photograph tenant space

• Follow daily Field Research procedures including:

• Quality communication to your Photography Manager to ensure assignments are efficiently carried and completed within a predefined time frame.

• Accurately logging working time and providing production updates.

• Upload data and images collected on the day the properties are canvassed

• Photograph and collect data on multiple properties per day predefined by your manager

• Visually scan commercial properties in assigned submarket while driving or walking, resulting the target number of potential listings (leasing and/or sale signs) per day when working on lead project

• Professionally communicate with property managers and customers via phone, e-mail, and in person.

• Abide by CoStar safety standards

• Maintain company vehicle and equipment

• Represent CoStar in a professional manner at all times

• Participate in monthly conference calls with sales and research teams

• Represent Research Photography at occasional trade functions

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Repetitive and frequent standing, seeing, sitting and walking up to 8 hours per day.

• Holding 2kgs in one hand for 5 minutes.

• Repetitive hand and arm movements needed to type and write.

• Exposed to various weather conditions each day.

• Exposed to both vehicle noise and possible car exhaust fumes.

QUALIFICATIONS

• A full local driving license (clean record preferred) is essential.

• Reading/writing proficiency in English and German.

• Technical proficiency in digital photography and post processing via the use of the Adobe suite of products; Lightroom, Photoshop, Premiere Pro.

• A willingness to travel to work across the country on special field related projects.

• Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office, and Internet applications.

• An existing portfolio of property exterior and interiors imagery.

• Excellent communication (oral and written) and organizational skills.

• Flexible, with the ability to positively adopt new processes.

• The ability to quickly learn and apply new concepts such as commercial real estate terminology and mapping software.

• Ability to work on own initiative and follow CoStar protocols remotely without supervision.

• Comfortable with working alone with daily support via phone and email.

POSITION: Director, Teacher Development and Instructional Leadership

SALARY RANGE: $98,000 - $109,760 with up to 6 years of aligned experience

KEY ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Vice President, Teaching, Learning and Curriculum, the Director, Teacher Development and Instructional Leadership will lead the strategic development and implementation of our teacher and instructional leader professional growth initiatives. This role is crucial for ensuring our educators are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and support needed to deliver high-quality, engaging, and effective instruction. This role will be responsible for the strategic oversight of our comprehensive teacher development and instructional leader development programs, directly leading and managing the Senior Manager of New Teacher Development and Experience and Senior Manager of Instructional Leadership. Together, they will work to ensure that our educators have access to high-quality professional growth opportunities, resources, and support systems. This role is vital for ensuring strong instructional practices, teacher effectiveness, and teacher retention, all of which will positively impact our desired student outcomes. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

Lead and manage Teacher Development and Instructional Leadership Team (25%)

• Directly lead and manage the Senior Manager of New Teacher Development and Experience and Senior Manager of Instructional Leadership, setting clear goals and expectations, providing consistent coaching, and ensuring the effective implementation of teacher development initiatives.

• Model a feedback-rich culture on your team, promoting reflective practice, the sharing of best practices, and a commitment to professional excellence.

• Coach the team to implement impactful school support and partnership that is influenced by school director needs and feedback. 

Oversee Teacher Development Strategy (25%)

• Refine DSST’s teacher development strategy - for new and returning teachers - ensuring alignment with our mission and educational goals, with a particular emphasis on curricular content.

• Lead cross-functional collaboration to ensure high-quality professional development programs for teachers, including summer training and ongoing professional development throughout the school year.

• Develop an online learning experience aligned to DSST’s Teacher Development Progression that includes virtual modules and aligned coaching resources.  

• Evaluate the impact of professional development activities on teacher perception and performance and student outcomes, leveraging data from surveys, observations and student learning to make informed adjustments and improvements.

• Lead ongoing trainings and revisions to teacher evaluation tool and goal guidance, conducting annual working group to seek feedback on tool and goal resources. 

• Oversee the budget for teacher development programs, ensuring strategic allocation of resources to maximize impact.

• Stay abreast of the latest educational research, trends, and best practices, especially in the realm of new career teacher professional development, to continually elevate the quality of DSST’s teacher development program.

Lead the Instructional Leader Development Strategy (25%)

• Lead implementation of DSST’s Instructional Coaching Vision, ensuring coaching is content-specific, supports curriculum implementation and is aligned to DSST’s differentiated teacher development pathways.  

• Design yearlong scope and sequence of professional development, including summer training and monthly training, for Instructional Coaches.  Evaluate the impact of professional development activities on impact of coaching, leveraging data to make informed adjustments and improvements to the approach of instructional leadership development. 

• Collaborate with content Directors to execute a coherent school support model that develops the capacity of school based coaches to implement DSST’s Instructional Coaching Vision and improve student learning. 

• Design and lead monthly School Director instructional training in collaboration with Managing Directors, ensuring coherence to school coaches development experiences. 

Collaborates closely with other members of the broader Schools & Academic Leadership team, School Directors, instructional coaches, and external organizations for increased impact (20%)

• Collaborate with school leadership to assess instructional needs and support the adoption of effective teaching strategies and practices that enhance student learning.

• Forge and manage partnerships with external organizations, educational institutions, and experts to introduce cutting-edge teaching practices and resources to DSST Public Schools.

Additional Duties (5%) 

• Model our Core Values, Commitment to the Human Condition, and our commitment to equity as a Leader within the Network

• Play an active leadership role in building and sustaining Home Office culture

• Engage with our school communities to actively build relationships between our schools and the home office

• Participate in & support the execution of Home Office & Network-wide events

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university required

• 5+ years experience leading in urban schools and/or communities

• At least 5 years of progressive leadership experience in a school, Charter Management Organization or other educational organization

• 2-4 years of experience in new career teacher development

• Experience at a high-performing charter school highly preferred but not required
