The Opportunity
Abbott currently has an exciting opportunity for a Director of Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR). We are looking for a leader who will inspire greatness in the team, use global healthcare industry knowledge to guide accelerated product adoption, expansion into new markets, and deliver strong long-term business performance.
As the head of the Rapid & Molecular Division Health Economics and Outcomes Research, you will own HEOR approach including value modeling, value-based storytelling, and value dossiers from insights to execution. You will work across businesses and across functional groups including Global Marketing, Market Access , Research & Development, Medical & Scientific Affairs, and Finance. This role will report to the Sr. Director, Global Strategic Marketing in our Lake Forest, IL location.
What You'll Work on
- Responsible for leadership in formulating, consolidating, and implementing HEOR strategies that advance testing and access to testing as fundamental to and enablers of healthcare and access to care. Ensure that (sub)regional HEOR perspectives and strategies are integrated to the Rapid & Molecular diagnostics Value Strategy
- Accountable to develop HEOR strategies and tactics that are evidence based, scientifically and technically valid, patient and medically relevant; of clinical, humanistic, and economical import.
- Responsible for development, management and delivery of global value dossier and review of adapted regional/local health economic, comparative effectiveness, patient reported outcomes, and epidemiologic data, and real world evidence, cost effectiveness analyses/-modeling , and Health Technology Assessment reimbursement
- Prioritize & stage development of HEOR toolset planning within investment constraints and aligned with business priorities and annual planning.
- Ensure next generation of products demonstrate value by collaborating and influencing stakeholders across different business units and divisions.
- Direct the development of rigorous HEOR models and value stories supported by market research and informed by cross functional assumptions.
- Lead and coordinate the annual HEOR Long Range Planning strategy process (OEM) including project managing, completing template deliverables, providing information inputs and strategic recommendation.
- Create a work culture/climate that attracts, develops, and retains top talent at all levels.
- Deliver proactive, transparent, and effective communications cadence to ensure timely dissemination of information with the executive leadership teams and matrix stakeholders.
- Ensure that the cross-divisional and cross-functional team members work as “one team.”
Required Qualifications
- Advanced Degree (MBA, MPH, PhD, MD) with consideration for MPH or other advanced degree in Life Sciences, Healthcare Economics or Epidemiology with relevant advanced industry experience
- 10+ years of experience in pharmaceutical, medical devices, diagnostics or point of care diagnostics fields with strong knowledge of healthcare industry.
- 5+ years relevant experience in at least one of the following fields: Outcomes Research, Clinical Research, Epidemiology, Health Policy
- Demonstrated robust analytical skills including financial modeling, scientific analytics, and healthcare infrastructure.– The ability to execute independently and through others while maintaining a high-standard of deliverables.
- Thorough understanding of global guidelines as they relate to HEOR and Medical Affairs, as well as expertise in global HTA/payer reimbursement and market access requirements.
- Global experience working across cultures and understanding market requirements.
- Results-oriented: demonstrates a sense of urgency for overcoming obstacles and achieving measurable results; resourceful and driven; willing to get hands dirty and personally drive projects and timelines.
- Ability to travel globally up to 30% of the time.
- Relentless curiosity— proactively anticipating risks; demonstrated ability to uncover hidden (or less obvious) risks, take ownership of problems, resolve ambiguities, exercise sound judgment, and independently determine appropriate course of action where precedent may not exist.
- Intellectual agility - able to pivot based on shifting priorities and balance multiple projects seamlessly in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent collaboration skills – able to navigate complex matrix within the Division and the broader Abbott organization to ensure alignment of priorities and partnership throughout program execution.
