Join the Circular Economy and Strategy Team in our mission to transform Essex into a Safer, Greener, and Healthier County. We're dedicated to minimising the impact on the environment by supporting residents to reduce waste and increase the amount recycled, and by working with others to deliver a more circular economy.
The Communications Lead is a new position where you'll be instrumental in developing and driving the team's engagement with the public, partners, and stakeholders on recycling and waste.
We are seeking a passionate individual to lead a team and champion engaging and innovative external communications and campaigns that deliver lasting behaviour change.

What will you be doing?
As Communications Lead, you will be responsible for coordinating the development and delivery of external communications and campaigns. Your role will manage a team working with a variety of channels including traditional and online media, social media and direct engagement through the Love Essex brand.
The role requires an individual who will proactively lead the team to develop and deliver high quality campaigns and initiatives with partners, including use of insight, impact evaluation and delivery of timely responsive communications.
Working closely alongside the Behaviour Change Lead to support the delivery of the Waste Reduction Behaviour Change programme ensuring ambitious waste reduction and increased recycling goals are met.

The Experience You Will Bring
Essential:
- Educated to degree level or equivalent by experience.
- Significant experience of executing successful external communications/campaigns that drive behavioural change on behalf of a large, complex organisation in-line with brand guidelines.
- Line management experience with the ability to lead and inspire a high performing team.
- Experience of using data and insight to design communications/campaign activity, monitor in real time, report on impact and effectiveness and drive continuous improvement.
- Excellent interpersonal writing and presentation skills and an ability to communicate clearly and accurately to a variety of audiences, with experience of reputational management and crisis communications.
Desirable :
- Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area
- Experience of working in a political environment, skills in understanding and responding to different perspectives and taking a cross organisational and cross-partner perspective.
- A broad interest and understanding of waste management, environmental issues and wider circular economy issues.
Interview Details
Interviews are scheduled to take place on 16th and 18th April 2024 at County Hall in Chelmsford. As part of the interview process you may be asked to create a virtual presentation.
