The role - As the Senior Technician at Armfield Academy, you will work alongside and support the IT Technician to provide an effective, efficient and successful IT support service, resolving IT issues to ensure that our staff are able to work and our pupils are able to learn. You will also be part of FCAT’s wider IT support team of 8 technical support staff based in our secondary and all-through academies. This wider network led by the FCAT Data and IT Lead and supported by the IT Operations Managers will provide opportunities for additional support, sharing of knowledge, learning from more experienced team members and collaboration on projects.

Within this role; opportunities for further training, qualifications and continuous professional development can be explored, as well as on-going access to an e-learning platform to support you in your work.

Join Team FCAT - We are looking to appoint an IT Technician to support the excellent delivery of our IT support service. This role will mainly be focused on providing support at Armfield Academy as well as being part of the trust team; providing support to other academies or the central services of the trust.

About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Technician to be based in the Department of Psychology. You will join us at an exciting phase in our development, as we grow our teaching portfolio and continually increase the quality of our research. We are looking to appoint someone to provide technical leadership and innovation as we ambitiously expand our activities.

As part of the role, you will be expected to provide technical support to our staff and students, including preparation for teaching activities, technical demonstrations and training. You will be responsible for keeping laboratories and specialist equipment in good working order, and you will support the procurement of new equipment and software. Where appropriate, you will be actively involved in research projects and external research grant applications to expand the scope and quality of our staff research activities. You will also provide day-to-day supervision and support to junior members of the departmental support team.

We would particularly welcome applications from candidates with advanced computing skills, especially relevant experience in object-oriented code (R, Python etc.) or modern web technologies and CMSs. Applicants with a background in computer science or data science may be suitable for this role, alongside those with psychology backgrounds.

About You
As Senior Technician you will be an enthusiastic and friendly professional who is excited about making notable contributions to psychological science through the provision of high-level technical services.

You should be educated to degree level (or equivalent), ideally with a background (or at least an interest) in psychology. You will already have experience relevant to working in a technical role, with existing expertise to support the range of research undertaken in a research-ambitious psychology department. You will be committed to supporting both our staff and our students, and you should be able to demonstrate your skills in training and in the demonstration of technical skills and equipment. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work with accuracy and under pressure. Prior experience in budget management and supervision of junior staff is desirable.

You'll be part of a team that delivers work to benefit society by advancing cleaner energy, protecting the environment, and keeping everyone safe.

We're looking for a versatile and experienced Senior EC&I Engineer who can take projects from the functional design specification through to delivery, managing all the relevant technical documentation throughout.

We're looking for someone who is looking to push their career to the next level.

Someone keen to work and grow as part of an integrated team.

The location for this role is flexible and can be based at Risley, Preston or Sellafield.

Main Responsibilities

Main Responsibilities for Senior Control, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer:

• Get involved with the whole project lifecycle.
• Take the lead in developing CE&I designs to national and international standards.
• Work with the wider engineering and business teams in developing safety related systems to BS EN 61508, BS EN ISO 13849-1.
• Work with the construction and commissioning team by providing CE&I support.
• Work with a team of junior engineers to guide their design activities.
• Work with the CE&I Discipline Lead Engineer to identify and develop business improvements.
• Engage in the employee development program to support your technical and behavioural growth.

Ideal Candidate

Essential Criteria for Senior Control, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer:

• Someone with a degree in an Electrical Engineering discipline or closely related subject together with a good level of design office experience.
• Someone with a good knowledge and experience in following an accredited design / engineering process to deliver an assured design / system that meets all required statutory site and national safety standards.
• Someone with the ability to work well within a design environment and other engineering disciplines.
• Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years' worth of UK residency).

Desirable Criteria for Senior Control, Electrical and Instrumentation Engineer:

• A Chartered or Incorporated Engineer, or someone working towards professional registration, although equivalent experience will be taken into consideration.
• A working knowledge of the requirements of PUWER and UKCA marking.
• Experience of the nuclear sector.
• Knowledge of Sellafield Standards.
