What You Will Do:
The Associate Director in Transmission & Distribution (T&D) Technical Services plays a key role in developing, proposing, and delivering solutions related to the Transmission and Distribution (T&D) energy grids, especially focused on the changing industry dynamics as part of a clean energy future. This Associate Director-T&D Technical Services position is a highly challenging role that draws heavily upon all of the analytical, creative, and interpersonal skills essential to delivering effective regulatory and general strategy consulting engagements. It is essential for the Associate Director-T&D Technical Services to have the ability to assume complete ownership of significant projects while at the same time being a part of and leading a team.
The Associate Director-T&D Technical Services will also function as a consultant and must organize their own tasks and schedules in carrying out substantial business analyses and delivering high-quality, client-ready work. As our clients are often large with complex systems, the Associate Director-T&D Technical Services must demonstrate considerable poise and business maturity to perform effectively and add value in the client environment. The Associate Director-T&D Technical Services must effectively represent and advocate for Guidehouse and our clients in multiple industry forums.
Key Responsibilities:
- Transmission planning and operations strategy and solutions focused on coordinated operations, infrastructure resilience, and reliability assessments
- Lead competitive intelligence and infrastructure advisory services throughout North America
- Renewable, storage, and DER interconnection analyses
- Impact assessment of Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and other federal and state energy policies
What You Will Need:
- Due to nature of client engagements, US Citizenship restrictions apply
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems Engineering AND 7+ years of professional working industry experience excluding internships, co-ops, research, and fellowships
- Familiar with FERC, NERC, and state regulatory requirements and processes
- In-depth knowledge of transmission and distribution systems from a planning and operations standpoint
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to travel as needed
- The successful candidate must not be subject to employment restrictions from a former employer (such as a non-compete) that would prevent the candidate from performing the job responsibilities as described.
- Currently reside in the contiguous United States
- The salary range for this position may vary depending on degree, work experience and location
What Would Be Nice To Have:
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Master's in Business Administration (MBA)
- Sustainability and/or ESG reporting experience excluding internships, co-ops, graduate research, and fellowships.
- Post graduation management consulting experience
- Bulk Electric System (BES) energy and utilities experience
- Knowledge of ISO/RTO operations and functions within the major interconnects of the United States
- Familiarity with transmission development, including competitive development
- Resource interconnection and expansion planning practices and protocols
- Demonstrated technical understanding of various power systems engineering tools such as PSLF, PowerWorld, PSSE, PowerGem Tara, etc.
The annual salary range for this position is $144,400.00-$216,600.00. Compensation decisions depend on a wide range of factors, including but not limited to skill sets, experience and training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs.
