The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
As a Junior Mechanical Calculation Engineer, you will be playing a crucial role in finalising the design phase of the Hinkley Point C project. In the piping sector, you will be responsible for overseeing the detailed design of an extensive piping network, stretching over 100 kilometres, which is integral to the Nuclear Island of the HPC EPR project.

What you’ll be doing
You’ll be responsible for ensuring the integrity of pipe network designs and supporting structures by performing detailed piping calculations and evaluating HVAC and electrical supports under various load scenarios, including thermal expansion and seismic activity.
You’ll also utilise element analysis software and contribute to the development of specialised tools.
Who you are
Being a Junior Mechanical Calculation Engineer means demonstrating exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, along with a deep understanding of mechanical concepts like modal and static analysis.
You’ll have expertise in performing mechanical simulations using finite element methods and proficiency in Python programming for developing computational tools.
