Are you a passionate Environmental Engineer looking to take the next step in your career? Do you have experience in implementing environmental requirements, along with expertise in system design and process engineering? If so, come and join EDF as an Environmental Engineer!
The Opportunity
EDF EPR Engineering UK (EPR-E) is tasked with delivering the design for several nuclear island (NI) buildings, systems, and equipment contracts for the Hinkley Point C EPR Project. This involves working through an integrated team, supporting HPC construction and commissioning efforts, and preparing design replication feasibility and engineering activities for the Sizewell C Project. As a result, a Technical Directorate is being established to oversee the engineering disciplines and technical expertise needed to successfully deliver these projects through EPR-E’s integrated teams.
As an Environmental Engineer, you’ll lead on environmental technical topics for both the HPC and SZC Projects, working within the Transverse Discipline Section, which oversees Environment and Safety for EDFE. In this role, you’ll collaborate closely with project teams and clients, providing critical support to the Environmental Team Lead and the broader Environment Team.
You’ll ensure that design teams receive high-quality guidance, maintaining the professionalism needed for such prestigious projects, while ensuring environmental requirements and standards are met. This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to one of Europe’s largest and most complex projects, supporting the success of nuclear energy as a vital part of the UK's future energy mix.
Pay, benefits and culture

That’s why we support you to pursue a career that’s unique to you. Because success is personal.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll manage technical aspects related to environmental requirements for systems and buildings as part of the design process, providing technical expertise during the design, construction, and commissioning phases. Additionally, you’ll contribute to or review reports in collaboration with other design teams and the Client, ensuring systems and buildings align with Edvance's scope and requirements.
You will play a vital role in helping teams identify relevant environmental regulations for the HPC and SZC sites. You’ll support efforts to address regulatory Assessment Findings, ensuring that Edvance’s systems and structures align with the SZC replication strategy. Furthermore, you’ll collaborate with system engineers, civil engineers, and layout teams in Paris and Bristol to ensure the thorough definition of functional requirements, operational protocols, and waste management strategies.
In this role, you’ll oversee the production of chemical inventories and the COMAH justification for the EPRE scope, ensuring proper methodologies are applied to buildings and systems, and preparing the associated reports. Additionally, you’ll participate in various Working Groups, attending regular meetings with design entities, Clients, or Regulators to discuss relevant topics and provide support where needed.
Who you are
Being an Environmental Engineer means demonstrating experience working within engineering projects, with a strong knowledge of environmental requirements, studies, and assessments. You’ll be familiar with the implementation of environmental requirements and have a solid understanding of Best Available Techniques (BAT) for ensuring compliance.
You’ll have a knowledge of Nuclear Safety Assessment Principles and their application along with experience in system design and layout engineering, allowing you to navigate technical challenges effectively.
We’re looking for someone who has a strong engineering background and has the ability to analysis a design in order to ensure compliance with engineering requirements.
If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
