THE JOB – Assistant Quantity Surveyor

- Monday – Friday / 8am - 4pm

- Due to growth, they are seeking a Assistant Quantity Surveyor to work out of their Central London Office.

Responsibilities:

- Cost Estimation: Assist in preparing accurate cost estimates and budgets for M&E projects, including materials, labour, equipment, and subcontractor costs.
- Procurement: Collaborate with the procurement team to source and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, negotiate pricing and terms, and assist in the selection of vendors.
- Bill of Quantities: Assist in the preparation of detailed bills of quantities (BOQ) and schedules of rates for M&E elements of construction projects.
- Tendering Process: Support the senior quantity surveyor in the tendering process, including analysing and evaluating tender submissions, assisting with subcontractor selection, and preparing tender reports.
- Contract Administration: Assist in the preparation, review, and administration of contracts, including subcontract agreements, variations, and change orders.
- Cost Control: Monitor project costs and expenditures, track variations, and assist in the preparation of cost reports. Identify cost-saving opportunities and suggest value engineering options.
- Valuations and Payments: Assist in the preparation of interim and final valuations for M&E works, ensuring accuracy and compliance with contractual requirements. Review and verify subcontractor payment applications.
- Cost Reporting: Contribute to regular cost reporting to the project team and clients, providing updates on project financial status, variations, and cash flow projections.
- Claims and Dispute Resolution: Assist in the evaluation and preparation of claims, as well as participate in dispute resolution processes, such as negotiations and mediation.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes, and regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

We are looking for a Quantity Surveyor to lead both the pre and post contract commercial function for SSE Smart Buildings Energy Systems sector, in line with strategy and budget. Your responsibilities will include:

- Provide bid team support, highlight risk and negotiate contracts in line with company processes and procedures.

- Upstream and downstream contract & commercial management for large projects mostly in the range of >£2m - £50m TCV. Lead and manage the commercial process and work closely with the Project Manager(s).

- Ensure upstream and downstream applications for payment are in place and billing occurs in accordance with the contract(s).

- manage risk and profitability effectively across the wider portfolio (as well as for individual larger projects) as well as assisting with forecasting and budget process across the business.

- Actively support the monthly review process and review overall commercial position for projects. Support the management of projects highlighting risks to the management team as required.

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- Previous experience of successfully carrying out a Quantity Surveying role on a large project £2m+.

- Strong knowledge and experience of Government Frameworks and Call Off Contracts.

- Strong knowledge and experience of standard form contracts - NEC/JCT/FIDIC.

- Highly experienced in financial control of projects, including cost control and other processes.

- Experience of dispute resolution processes.

A day in the life:
You will:

Ensure the maintenance and repairs of Mechanical and Electrical installations (such as lifts, communal boilers, door systems, gates, lighting equipment etc) are carried out safely, effectively and efficiently throughout Wandle properties.
Responsible for M&E equipment across an operational patch, carrying out periodic inspections to ensure that they are operating in line with relevant standards and requirements.
Oversee the preparation of Mechanical & Electrical installation specifications, works drawings and tenders as required and in accordance with Wandle standing orders.
Supervising work on-site of Mechanical & Electrical contractors delivering installation and repair works to Wandle properties.
Taking responsibility for resolving customer complaints, and service enquiries in a professional and responsive manner.
Attending meetings, and site meetings with contractors as required to discuss contractual performance or financial matters.
Take ownership of safety of customers and users of Wandle properties where relevant to own duties
Work with contractors to ensure repairs and maintenance issues are identified early and resolved promptly with as little disruption as possible to services and raise orders on relevant corporate systems to aid effective management and tracking of progress.
Monitor the performance of contractors, including quality control of completed repairs, in line with contract KPIs and objectives, feeding into performance meetings and contractor review process. Ensure value for money through checking of invoices and valuations.
Ensure that contracts/works are delivered in a safe manner in line with current Health and Safety legislation.
Provide liaison with other Wandle staff and stakeholders within operational patch to ensure effective management of equipment
Attend site inspections on request of customers and or stakeholders in line with SLA’s and service requirements, agree resolution of issues and act on oncome to ensure services are of a high quality and great customer experience.
Communicate with all stakeholders in the event of major service failure or disruption affecting premises within operational patch. Provide regular updates
Ensure complaints from customers, including members enquiries are effectively responded to in line with service standards and deadlines. Escalate to management where appropriate.
Lead on customer engagement with support of Neighbourhood staff to respond to major breakdowns/disruption to services, attending residents’ meetings where required.


What you’ll need to have:

Relevant Degree Qualification or minimum 3 years relevant experience in a Property Services/M&E function within a customer service environment
Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations and good practice in the management of M&E equipment
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience specifying technical works and quality control of finished products
Experience of responding to complaints and effective resolution of complaints issues
Experience of working with contractors to ensure compliance and delivery of high-quality services, ideally in the public sector
Experience of managing budgets effectively and ensuring that challenging KPIs are achieved

As one of our Reactive Repairs Surveyors, you will play a crucial role in conducting comprehensive surveys, generating detailed reports, and managing reactive repairs projects across London and surrounding areas. This is a key role providing assurance over the timeliness and quality of repairs undertaken by both or Direct Labour Organisation and range of external contractors.

• To assist the Supervisor/Area Manager in the effective and efficient delivery of a customer-focused day-to-day repair service to the Association’s diverse portfolio

Our superb client in the Property Damage Restoration sector is seeking a number of Technicians owing to business growth. Working 40 hours per week Monday to Friday 8.00am - 4.30pm covering London and the South of the UK. It is essential that you have a full UK driving licence (no more than 6 points on licence) and your own transport to be considered for the role.

Working as part of a specialist team, as a Property Restoration Technician, you will be involved in the restoration of commercial and some residential property, structures, machinery, following events such as fire or flooding. You will be responsible for stripping out commercial properties following water / fire damage, setting up equipment to begin the drying out process, before the property can be restored back to full use, ensuring compliance and health & safety at all times. You will order specialist equipment and materials in advance of project needs, returning equipment at the end of the project. Upload project reports and updates to company claims management system,. You will assist in looking after temporary hires during projects. Coaching where necessary. You will work on a range of specialist projects and some smaller projects from time to time. You will attend team meetings and will be required to travel extensively and stay away from home regularly during the week and when required in fully expensed accommodation with a meal allowance. You will have a basic knowledge of CDM regulations and be able to complete risk assessments and method statements as well as undertaking electrical and mechanical technical decontamination and structural decontamination and drying.

To be considered for the role of Property Restoration Technician , you will have previous experience in a similar damage restoration or construction labouring position where you have worked extensive with building materials, you will have manual dexterity, pc literate and a good level of general education.
