About This Job

The main purpose of this job is to participate in-depth underwriting discussions with lenders and senior credit management regarding real estate taken as collateral. This role experiences high volumes of production and is held to a variety of service level agreements to ensure our sales force holds a competitive advantage in the market place.

Essential Functions

• Bid, order, and review commercial real estate appraisals on commercial and residential loans

• Review complex appraisals to ensure regulatory and bank policy compliance acceptability of methodology, and mitigate real estate value risks

• Render opinions on the quality and reliability of new and existing file appraisals per policy guidelines and provide opinions as to the quality and marketability of loan collateral

• Support in maintaining bank databases on property transactions and trends

• Assist in underwriting environmental due diligence for commercial loans

• Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and bank policy

• Partner with lenders and credit managers in order to provide high-quality consultation for informed and prudent loan decisions

• Assist and support Appraisal Review Group department manager and Chief Appraiser as needed

• May provide leadership to less experienced real estate associates in the workgroup

• Perform other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required

• Comprehensive knowledge of commercial real estate appraisal practices and techniques

• Knowledge of bank regulatory requirements strongly preferred

• Familiarity with environmental risks, regulations and site assessment reports preferred

• Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality

• Motivated and organized self-starter with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities

• Inquisitive, agile and strong team player with excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills

• Ability to remain adaptable and resilient to all situations with an optimistic outlook and cast a positive shadow that is aligned with our culture and Core Values

• Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook  

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, or Finance, or equivalent combination of education and experience required

• 7+ years’ experience in the valuation of commercial real estate required

• State General Appraiser Certification required (MO, KS, IL, TX, or CO preferred)

• Prior bank appraisal review experience strongly preferred

• Member Appraisal Institute (MAI), real estate designations, or Appraisal Institute Advanced Associate (AIAA) with all coursework completed preferred

What a typical day includes

Credit writing and structuring: Day-to-day, you will build and maintain foundational relationships with product partners, clients, other CWB business divisions, practice sound underwriting within Bank policy and guidelines, ensuring all risks are accurately identified and mitigated, and client’s needs are fulfilled!

Risk management: Ensure the safety of the Bank’s funds with detailed loan portfolio management, including strong attention to loan quality, exposure limits and security requirements. Review accounts/services on an ongoing basis acquire compensation for increase in risk, complexity or administration.

Operations & reporting: To review, analyze and approve construction draw requests and interim reports. Minimize loan and revenue loss experience through implementation of programs and procedures to identify and solution problem loans. Ensure required reports and other financial data is received and analyzed promptly in accordance with conditions of loan commitment.

Learning: Although you’ve developed a solid foundation in the real estate industry, you are always identifying trends and growing your knowledge on your next client or business area to achieve ultimate success and strong results from you and your team.

Who we’re looking for & what you’ve done

Over 3 years in a commercial banking environment with vast exposure to real estate lending with a focus on construction financing and land serving deals plus an undergraduate degree in commerce, finance or a related field.

We will count on you to:

• Provide support to help clients coordinate solutions, manage accounts, obtain advice and administer plans.

What you need to have: 

• Bachelor's degree preferred

• Minimum of 6 years’ of commercial P&C insurance coverage experience in a risk management or brokerage capacity. 

• Property & Casualty Insurance License required.
