We are seeking a skilled Instructor and Technician to join our Construction and Building Services Department. This role involves supporting Lecturers and students in the practical delivery of wet trade skills, including plastering, tiling and bricklaying, The successful candidate will play a vital role in maintaining a safe, effective, and inspiring learning environment, ensuring that students receive the hands-on experience they need to excel.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Support: Assist in preparing materials, tools, and equipment for practical sessions in wet trade areas, including plastering, bricklaying, tiling, and painting.

Workshop Maintenance: Ensure all tools, equipment, and facilities are well-maintained, clean, and ready for use. Carry out minor repairs and coordinate maintenance as needed.

Health & Safety: Monitor and enforce health and safety standards in the workshop. Conduct regular safety checks and maintain accurate records.

Resource Management: Manage inventory of materials and tools, ordering supplies as necessary to support course requirements.

Student Support: Provide guidance and support to students during practical sessions, assisting with techniques, equipment use, and safety protocols.

We have a great opportunity for an experienced Cook / Chef to join the team of a succesful and popular Whitehaven town centre cafe.

You will be working 5 days per week (daytimes only – no evenings!) and (except during December) you get Sundays, and one other day of the week, off.

The food you will be preparing / cooking ranges from soups, pies, quiches and main meals to afternoon tea.

You will also have input into the menu and specials, giving you the opportunity to bring your own ideas to life.

Duties:

Prepare and cook a variety of dishes.
Assist in the planning and development of new recipes and menu items.

Supervising kitchen staff, providing guidance and support in food preparation techniques.
Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen area, including proper storage of ingredients.

Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure timely service and customer satisfaction.
Help train new kitchen staff on cooking techniques and safety protocols.

Experience:

Experience as a Cook or Chef or in a cafe, bar, restaurant or catering facility.

Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

The capability is part of the Nuclear Operations within NNL which delivers critical programmes of work across both NNL's civil and defence portfolios and holds critical skills for the Nuclear Sector. As the UK nuclear industry is undergoing a resurgence there is an increasing focus on the delivery of new developments, from advanced modular reactors, clean energy, nuclear medicine, new fuel types, new reprocessing processes as well as the need for support of the existing sites and processes, including decommissioning. NNL is at the forefront of many of these developments, particularly with its four Focus Areas, and as a result needs to maintain a position at the forefront of developments in criticality safety assessment. The criticality team at NNL provides criticality safety advice and assessment for our own activities as well as for a number of customers across different licensed sites.

NNL are looking for a trainee criticality specialist to support delivery of Criticality Safety Assessments within NNL, our own facilities, our Focus Areas and current and future customers. You will develop technical skills within the Criticality area under the direction and mentorship of senior colleagues.
