The Paralegal will provide vital support to fee earners on a daily basis with legal research, case management, document preparation, filings and hearings. He/She will have at least 2 to 3 years’ of experience working with fee earners on high value and complex commercial litigation disputes and international arbitrations.
Responsibilities:
- Case Management – Responsible for the day-to-day aspects of the case by undertaking research, prepare legal documents; maintaining materials; indexing these materials and filing them in the database; organise and maintain large electronic and hard copy case files; managing correspondences in a similar manner
- Document review - Conduct first level reviews of documents
- Filings - Drafting of documents, conducting cite-checking; ensuring styles are applied consistently across documents; proofreading and managing the collection and organisation, including indexing of supporting documentation
- Hearings – in charge of the logistical planning of the hearing (i.e., to negotiate contracts with transcribers; interpreters and hearing venues); work closely with fee-earners on opening/closing presentations and the preparation of cross-examination bundles
Crucial requirements:
- Diploma in Paralegal Studies/Bachelor’s Degree in Law with 2 to 3 years of working experience in a broad range of disputes including commercial arbitrations and investment treaty arbitrations for an international law firm
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, demonstrating professionalism and confidence to interface at all levels to build strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders
- A driven and enthusiastic self-starter who can work with minimal supervision when required and provide proactive support to fee-earners
- Tenacious and level headed when juggling with multiple projects working in a fast paced environment
- Shrewd commercial acumen with regard to priorities/urgency in tasks and activities as needed
- Flexible, collaborative and committed towards teamwork
- Tech-savvy and working knowledge of legal software and document/case management systems advantageous; e.g., Westlaw, PLC or specific arbitration databases would be helpful
- Meticulous and attentive with the ability to produce work to the highest standard of accuracy while managing strict deadlines and competing demands
- Integrity and discretion when handling confidential information
- Willing to travel when necessary
