Facilitate and update the written documentation used in the Hospital Play Service. Update and maintain policies and guidelines for the play service. Organise and maintain a safe stimulating play environment within the appropriate areas. Through communication, and co-operation of other staff, create conditions in which play occurs naturally, whether or not the play specialist is on duty. Select safe, appropriate play materials for the various age groups in agreement with the ward managers/modern matron. Ensure that all play equipment is kept clean and maintained to a high standard, reporting any defects or hazards to the ward/dept manager. Be responsible for the safe storage of certain play materials which may be used only when the Play Specialist is present. To tidy away play activities at the end of each play session within the internal and external play areas. Supervise any Play Specialist or Nursery Nurse students who may be allocated to the department through colleges of Further Education. Assess students and complete necessary documentation/reports. Give talks about role of play specialist Promote the importance of play to all professionals. Co-ordinate pre-admission work including school visits. The Specialist Health Visitor for Perinatal & Infant Mental Health will work as part of the Lancashire Healthy Young People & Families Service and to be responsible for leading, embedding up to date research and evidence-based practice and developing Perinatal and Infant Mental Health services to all Lancashire Healthy Young People & Families Service staff. The specialist Health visitor will ensure the efficient delivery of the Healthy Child Programme, transition to parenthood and perinatal & infant mental health and other local commissioning requirements. This will include provision/oversight of any required training and Clinical Audit to provide assurance of a competent confident workforce. To ensure, jointly with other services, the development of multi-disciplinary pathways, policies and procedures to address the mental health needs of parents and infants in the perinatal period, including auditing of service. The Specialist HV for PIMH will have a high level of relevant, expert knowledge & skill and will work in collaboration with other services such as SPCMHT, MBU, Adult MH services, Midwifery, NICU, GPs, Third sector organisations and the Local authority. The Specialist Health Visitor will provide relevant specialist consultation, training and support to the universal childrens services in relation to Perinatal & Infant Mental Health, as well as the relationship of the parental couple.
