The Cellular Pathology service is a rapidly expanding part of the Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Network, which is based on the hospital sites at Coventry (University Hospital), Nuneaton (George Eliot Hospital) and Warwick (South Warwickshire Hospital). Practice: To adhere to the Trust Code of Conduct for Non-Qualified Staff and all other relevant policies and procedures. To plan (under the supervision of a qualified SLT) and deliver a programme of therapeutic activities to patients on the inpatient wards at UHCW and Rugby St Cross. This will include patients with dysphagia and communication difficulties. To assess and feedback to the supervising SLT when a patients programme is no longer appropriate for them or when the patient requires a review. To be responsible for a designated case load under supervision liaising with the appropriate SLT for that area. To work with patients who may have an altered airway e.g. tracheostomy and laryngectomy under the guidance of an SLT, completing competencies as appropriate. To provide emotional support to patients in challenging situations such as end of life or prolonged care if needed To complete competencies in dysphagia assessment and awareness, tracheostomy, Videofluoroscopy (VF) and Fibreoptic evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) as appropriate and under the guidance of an SLT. To contribute to formal SLT assessments, provide both dysphagia andcommunication therapy and report effectively to the SLT team and Multi-disciplinary team on patients performance/ progress. To dispense clinical trial medication in accordance with departmental SOPs and clinical trial regulations, completing all necessary labelling and accountability requirements. To work under the supervision of pharmacy technicians and pharmacists, and seeking advice on any complex prescriptions before dispensing. To receive clinical trial drug deliveries in accordance with departmental and clinical trial specific SOPs. To ensure that stock received is correct, the correct paperwork has been received including QP Release Certificates, Certificate of Analysis, or other relevant documentation as outlined in the delivery note or trial specific SOP. To ensure that appropriate temperature monitoring has been completed during shipment and to take appropriate actions on the event of a temperature excursion which will include quarantining stock and liaising with the pharmacy clinical trials team.
