This Security Assistant position is located in the Personnel Security Branch, Security and Administrative Services (SAS), Enterprise Support (ES), Transportation Security Administration (TSA), Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Duties include but are not limited to:

• Prepares authoritative correspondence responding to inquiries on internal operations based upon an in-depth knowledge of the commonly applied policies, regulations, and precedents used in the organization.
• Takes the lead in adapting and implementing new office policies and procedures.
• Provides guidance to team members in day-to-day assignments ensuring overall consistency and quality of work.
• Compiles, tracks, and analyzes statistical and narrative data from a variety of sources to develop case files for use of senior employees.

• You will provide customer service by answering transportation questions accurately via in-person, phone and email.
• You will closely monitor travel details for budgeting and disposition purposes and communicate status changes and/or clearance information to appropriate personnel.
• You will make transportation mode selections for small shipments, and at times, will divert to quicker methods.
• You will compile information and produce daily and monthly reports as required.

Major duties include but are not limited to:

• Maintains communications with receiving facilities regarding beneficiaries return travel arrangements.
• Reviews requests for reimbursement of travel costs for the purpose of assuring compliance with regulations and procedures, completeness, accuracy, internal consistency, and agreement with basic authorization.
• Reconciles vouchers against authorizations for accuracy prior to preparing certification for payments. Responsible for balancing, reconciling, and adjusting invoices for payment.
• Prepares daily expenditure reports.
• Manages activities for beneficiary travel control points.
• Determines legal entitlement to travel reimbursement, applies deductible requirements and computes amount to be paid to beneficiaries.
• Maintains a master list of deductibles met for each month on every patient that visits this facility and authorizes or denies reimbursement accordingly.
• Process requests for travel reimbursement utilizing various systems to determine service connection eligibilities, hardship qualification, appointment verification at local and outside facilities, proof of address, and other criteria.
• Serves as record keeper and coordinator of patient funds on deposit.
• Maintains accounting records and control log.
• Records money from the Emergency Department safe and releases the money to the patients or, if necessary, next of kin, in coordination with Decedent Affairs.
• Responsible for the accuracy of all patient funds transactions, including all deposits and withdrawals.
• Determines if a Patient Funds account is restricted or unrestricted and indicates the status on each signature card and computer entry.
• Prepares and submits monthly Patient Funds monitors as required by the Fiscal Service in a timely manner.

Upon request, the incumbent will assist patrons only to the extent of absolute knowledge with instructions or advice on repairing automotive vehicles.

The incumbent will insure that he/she does not convey any misleading, incorrect or unsafe information or practice. May supervise patrons using all tools and machines ensuring safety precautions are used. All patron service will be responsive, polite and delivered in a manner.

Check tools in and out using a custody receipt to ensure their return. Advises customer on safety instructions concerning tools and equipment in the shop and ensures protective equipment is used as required. Operates shop machinery as required, which may include valve grinding, wheel-balancing, timing lights and spark plug cleaning machines. Instructs customer in proper use of machinery as needed and oversees to ensure safe and appropriate use. Assists with the preventative maintenance, repair and record-keeping of all Mid-Atlantic owned vehicles.

Collects and records all fees and sales. Operates cash register, and performs all necessary cash recording in accordance with established regional policy. Displays stock and refills displays as necessary. Assists with shop inventory as requested.

Maintains facility in clean and orderly fashion to ensure high level of cleanliness at all times. Cleans and stocks restrooms. Upon closing, ensures the facility has been cleaned according to directives, checks internal and external lighting and holds fire and security checks to ensure facility is secured.Performs any other related duties as assigned.
