Introduction
ETH Zurich is one of the leading universities of the world with a strong focus on science and engineering. In 2010 it established the Singapore-ETH Centre (SEC) in collaboration with the National Research Foundation (NRF) to do interdisciplinary research on pressing problems.
In collaboration with local universities in Singapore, SEC is undertaking the research programmes on "Future Resilient Systems (FRS)" and “Future Health Technologies”. The FRS and FHT address the challenges of making Singapore resilient against disruptions and the need to transform the healthcare system into one which is more digital, patient-centric and cost-efficient. Within this framework we are announcing the following job opening.
Task/Job description
We are looking for a committed team player responsible for the coordination and development of science communication activities of the FRS and FHT programmes. You will work closely with the FRS and FHT Management team, as well as with researchers from SEC, ETH Zurich, and local partner institutions in Singapore.
Your responsibilities will include the following tasks (list not exhaustive):
Developing Science Communication Strategies
· Create comprehensive communication strategies for FRS and FHT aligned with the programme’s goals and objectives.
· Define key messages and positioning to effectively convey the programme’s brand identity to interested non-experts and the general public and increase visibility in the scientific community,
Media Relations
· Build and maintain relationships with key industry journalists, influencers, and media outlets (particularly scientific media) in close collaboration with SEC Communications
· Coordinate closely with SEC Communications when media inquiries need to be handled.
Content Creation
· Generate compelling and relevant content for the FRS and FHT, including, articles, impact stories, newsletters, reports and social media.
· Closely collaborate with our researchers and support them in all aspects of content creation.
Market Research and Analysis
· Stay up to date with relevant research and industry trends, competitor activities, and market developments
· Use market research to inform communication strategies and identify opportunities. Track, analyse and report on social media performance metrics, providing insights and recommendations for improvement.
Stakeholder Engagement
· Engage with key stakeholders, including academics, customers, partners, government agencies, and industry associations
· Build and maintain positive relationships to support the programme’s objectives
Compliance and Ethics
· Ensure that all communication activities adhere to legal and ethical standards
· Work with the SEC communications team to ensure cohesive messaging across all channels and units in SEC.
Requirements
(Education or skills requirements)
· A bachelor’s degree in communications, Public Relations, Science journalism or related discipline from a recognised university.
· Possesses the interest in science communications
· At least 5 years of working experience in research communication.
· Working experience in higher education settings will be advantageous.
· Proficient in social media management tools and platforms.
· Creative thinking with high-level writing, editing and skills.
· Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects concurrently.
· Competent in long- and short-form content.
· Organised with attention to detail.
· Demonstrate independence and ability to work well in a team.
