We are now recruiting Resident Electrical and Maintenance Engineers at our new Midlands Super Hub, DIRFT Drive, Crick, NN6 7GZ.
We have an exciting opportunity to be at the forefront of this transformation, working as part of the critical engineering maintenance team at Royal Mail’s new, flagship parcel processing facility in Northampton, the Midlands Parcel Super Hub. The hub will have a processing capacity of over a million parcels per day and is the first of its kind within the business, leading the way in our transformation from being a letter led to a parcel led company.
Salary: £39,291 per annum, plus an additional 8% site allowance and a night shift allowance of £5,000 per annum pro rata.
A weekend supplement for Saturday (£50 per attendance) and Sunday (£100 per attendance) shift attendance. Annual leave 22.5 days plus bank holidays. As this site operates 24 hours 7 days per week you would receive a day off in lieu should the bank holiday fall on the week you were on shift.

Contract Type: Permanent
Working hours: 40 hours per week. Shift pattern is 4 days on, 4 days off rotation. 4 days typically 05:50 - 18:15 then 4 days off, followed by 4 nights 17:50 - 06:15 then 4 days off.
12 hour 25 minute shifts (11 hour 25 minute work with 1 hour unpaid break) exception being any shift on a Monday which needs to 12 hours 30 minutes (11 hour 30 work and 1 hour break)
The successful candidate will be required to follow the shift rotation system, with some degree of voluntary flexibility to meet our 24/7 operational needs on occasion, including voluntary overtime coverage and occasional shift pattern flexibility. The role will cover day and night shifts, including scheduled weekends.
The Role
In this role, you will be expected to have excellent technical knowledge of electrical systems, mechanical power and control wiring and test inspection of electrical installations. The Engineer will be expected to work on multiple FM systems with the majority of the work being electrical maintenance. You will have excellent communication skills and be able to discuss work and progress with customers and managers. You will also have excellent organisational skills.
A full UK Driving Licence is preferred but not essential

Key aspects of the role include:
- Act as a role model for safety, setting an example to colleagues and customers
- Maintenance of electrical systems
- Expert fault finding and providing advice and guidance to customers in relation to M&E equipment.
- Understand all plumbing such as replacing taps, sinks, cistern filling / flush units and heating elements.
- Understanding and knowledge of general building fabric repairs to maintain the standard of the building
- Supply knowledge in a range of technical situations, making personal judgments on how to undertake work to achieve quality, cost, and time objectives
- Provide technical advice and guidance to other staff and customers to resolve problems
- Delivery of Corrective and Planned Maintenance to meet the performance measures detailed in the contract.
- Liaise with customers’ representatives on a day-to-day basis to ensure customer requirements are fully met
- Check and ensure all appropriate and approved paperwork is completed
- Make personal judgments on how to undertake work to achieve cost, quality, and contractual objectives
- Manage the relationship with the customer and liaise with customers to ensure that the customer is fully informed and project a positive professional image of self and Royal Mail P&FS
About you
- Successful applicants must hold an Electrical certification such as the 18th Edition
- Planned maintenance experience of electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience in fault finding and diagnosis with the ability to provide advice and guidance to others across all systems where required
- The ability to communicate effectively with customers, explaining technical issues
- The ability to analyse and understand technical issues in relation to electrical systems
- Ideal but not essential you will be IPAF and MEWP trained and qualified and be comfortable working at heights
- Experience of dealing with Customers in a commercial environment
- Computer literacy skills an advantage
