Legal Counsel
As a Legal Counsel you will be supporting Hospitality's Distribution and Media business unit. That will involve providing first-level legal support to the Media Destinations Sales team and Hotel Distribution team, including drafting and negotiating a variety of commercial agreements (e.g., SaaS, advertising service, technology agreements and distribution agreements).
You will also be responsible for providing support on vendor and partner agreements related to the Distribution & Media area. Provide general advice and assistance to the business including liaising with sales, account management, product teams, order management, finance, R&D, CISO, and Privacy Unit. You will assist with compliance and data privacy matters as they relate to the Distribution and Media areas.
As a Legal Counsel you will provide practical business-oriented solutions to complex legal issues and manage competing priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced, demanding environment.
You will be joining a team of experts who constantly learn, refine, and improve their skills and knowledge in these rapidly evolving fields, including the use of the Amadeus DSP to execute and optimize digital advertising campaigns.
In this role you’ll:
- Support the fast-growing business areas of Media (Digital Media, Travel Seller Media, Destinations Sales) and Amadeus Hospitality Hotel Distribution, including drafting and negotiating of a variety of commercial agreements (e.g., services agreements, distribution agreements, advertising technology agreements, SaaS agreements).
- Provide strategic support and legal counsel regarding the expansion of the Amadeus Media Demand Side Platform in NORAM and APAC. Provide solution-oriented, responsive, and commercially practical legal advice, while containing legal risks and exposure to the maximum extent possible.
- Liaise internally to ensure all escalations and approvals are obtained throughout all processes. Role includes direct and significant interfacing and negotiating with HOS mid and some senior level business and product teams and external lawyers; consulting with other support units in Legal (regulatory, IP, Privacy, Data Governance, etc.) as necessary. It will be key to understanding the broad product suite as well as the digital advertising environment.
- Support all compliance and risk management initiatives related to business areas supported.
- Ensure Amadeus general and Hospitality-specific policies and standards are maintained and enforced consistently.
- Liaise and collaborate with Amadeus privacy, risk & compliance, Data Governance, and CISO teams to ensure uniform enforcement of policies and minimization of risk. These activities also require appropriate levels of knowledge to be shared with other legal team members, especially the Hospitality General Counsel. Work on compliance-related projects as they arise.
- Serve as trusted legal advisor to the supported business areas.
- Review and respond to a variety of questions from the business.
- Support and liaise with various internal areas, including product, sales, account management, CISO, operations, technology and engineering, marketing, finance, delivery, customer care, order management and communications. Provide practical business-oriented solutions to complex legal issues. You will be required to provide expedient, reliable, off-the-cuff advice on a wide variety of general issues relating to the supported business areas. You will manage competing priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced, demanding environment. As necessary, liaise with external counsel and procure input and advice in a cost-effective manner.
- Work with manager to maintain and update all HOS Distribution, Media, Data Provision templates and policies. The role will also require coordinating with all applicable teams to update terms as products evolve and customer feedback is taken into account. Assist with the continuous updating of the online terms and conditions, including general terms, product-specific terms and third-party terms.
- Provide legal support on various other matters, such as conducting legal research, performing due diligence/data mining reviews, assistance with the preparation of negotiation guidelines, preparation, and delivery of legal training to the business, assisting in the development of processes/systems to streamline the delivery of legal services to the company (e.g., automation and other efficiency-related initiatives), and ad hoc matters/projects, as they arise.
- Responsible for remaining abreast of key developments in the digital advertising industry with a particular focus on privacy, data usage, and industry specific technologies. Collaboration with both internal and external specialists in these areas and guiding the business on cutting-edge industry technology matters, including the Amadeus Media Demand Side Platform (Amadeus DSP).
About the ideal candidate
- Law degree from a superior US or European school. Preferably also an LLM/LLB
- Qualified lawyer with at least 5 years of post-qualification experience (PQE) with a demonstrable record of success in prior roles.
- Experience in the SaaS industry, preferably with some experience in Media and data privacy.
- Experience drafting and negotiating customer contracts, preferably Media (digital advertising)/ SaaS agreements.
- Ideal candidate will have experience in a high caliber law firm (plus, if also has in-house experience), experience in transactional or IT/ digital advertising law practice, experience drafting and negotiating a variety of and complex commercial agreements (a plus if candidate has experience with technology or media agreements).
Skills:
- Position requires a high degree of organization and ability to handle many tasks simultaneously, as well as ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Possession of strong analytical and writing skills, as well as strong negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills required.
- Ability to quickly get up to speed on the hospitality area and the Amadeus Hospitality product portfolio, especially the distribution and media business and its objectives.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and multi-task in a fast moving, global environment.
- Ability to provide practical business-oriented solutions.
- A plus if candidate has experience providing legal support within travel industry.
