The department provides anaesthesia for a wide range of surgical specialties including vascular, colorectal, maxillofacial, ENT, major gynaecology, urology and orthopaedics. The division has recently acquired a robot to provide surgery for some major urology, colorectal and ENT procedures. There is a busy labour ward and a new state of the art intensive care unit. We will do our best to accommodate specific interests in training in a particular field of anaesthesia. The department has a well established local FRCA teaching programme which the post holder will be able to attend if they wish to attempt the FRCA examinations. The department holds regular teaching and training sessions in various topics which will be available to the post-holder. A study leave budget is available to aid further training and development. The post holder will be given the opportunity throughout the contract to consolidate the knowledge, skills and attitudes learnt. You will demonstrate these in supervised practice and will be expected to practice at all times according to the principles set out in Good Medical Practice (GMC) including: Essential clinical and practical skills, Communication skills,Teaching and learning skills andPersonal and professional skills. On call commitments and hours of duty. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to out of hours cover (including nights) on either the general theatres, obstetrics or intensive care rota. To assist the Dispensary Manager and Assistant Dispensary Manager to co-ordinate the workload through the dispensary. This will include the following tasks: To identify bottlenecks within the Dispensary and react accordingly: Pro-actively manage staff to ensure the Dispensary is able to dispense prescriptions effectively. Manage the workload according to agreed Pharmacy turnaround times, escalating as necessary, according to the internal Pharmacy Escalation Policy. Monitor the validation tray.
