We are looking for experienced band 6 bank staff to join our large, supportive and high profile speech and language team based across Southmead and Cossham Hospitals. Due to staff moves, secondments and maternity leaves we often have short term staffing gaps with bank staff required to help support continued service delivery.


The Speech and Language Service covers a wide range of clinical pathways including stroke, neurosurgery, general medicine and outpatients and support and supervision can be provided by highly experienced band 7 staff in all areas. All inpatient work takes place at Southmead Hospital and the outpatient/community service is provided from both Southmead and Cossham Hospitals.


Successful candidates will need to have achieved post basic dysphagia competencies and have experience of working with adults with acquired swallowing and communication difficulties in a range of clinical areas.

• To provide specialist speech and language therapy (SLT) assessment, diagnosis and treatment to adults with communication and swallowing difficulties following stroke, neurosurgical, acquired neurological and medical disorders
• This post may potentially cover: stroke wards, medical/complex care wards, neurosciences wards, critical care and outpatients
• To manage an inpatient or outpatient caseload as appropriate

Clinical
1. To have responsibility and accountability for the management of own clinical caseload, including referrals, management and discharge decisions, within own level of competence and with appropriate clinical support.

The Post holder will:
• Act as an expert resource and is responsible for ensuring all elements of set up are completed in accordance with UK and EU legal requirements, Trust policies and ICH-GCP or IS0 14155, as appropriate, whether conducted personally or through appropriate delegation.

We have an opportunity for Registered Nurses looking to join our committed nursing team for the Interventional Radiology Labs in Gate 19, Brunel Building, Southmead Hospital, Bristol.

This is a busy department incorporating 4 Interventional Radiology rooms. This area manages a wide variety of procedures which includes outpatient, inpatient and emergency cases. We are part of the major trauma and vascular service for the South West.

As a Bank Nurse, your responsibilities will include :
• Supporting all clinical areas of the Trust as and when required.
• Taking personal responsibility and accountability for ensuring that Trust and local policies and procedures are known and followed and ensuring duties are carried out in accordance with the advisory guidelines and practice set out in the NMC code.
• Being responsible for assessment, planning, Implementation and Evaluation of patient care.
• Taking responsibility for the supervision and guidance of otherstaff including health care assistants and students as required.

Applicants must:
• Hold RN (adult) registration with current NMC license to practice
• Minimum of 15 months post new qualification experience. (3 months preceptorship and then 12 months acute experience)
• Have recent acute hospital experience within the last 18-24 months
• Have a drive to work hard, enthusiasm and the ability to commit to a 4-day induction programme if successful
• Have Right to work in UK (with relevant Adaptation/ONP if applicable)
• Have the ability to commence work within 3 months of offer

An exciting opportunity to work in the Specialist Epilepsy Team has arisen. This role will involve autonomous, independent clinical practice. With a background of nursing, the post holder will work closely with Consultant. Neurologists/Neuropsychiatrists and clinical nursing staff within the NMSK Division and other divisions within the trust towards improving service for patients with epilepsy.
• To work in transitional care for adolescent patients transferring from paediatric to adult services.
• To lead and run the antenatal epilepsy service at Southmead and UBHW.
• To contribute to the education of patients with epilepsy, their carers, GPS and other outside key roles.
• Participate in an emergency department liaison service offering review and facilitation of early discharge.
• Ward liaison service offering review and facilitation of early discharge.
• Offer independent nurse led follow up clinics for epilepsy patients for medication review/change
• Attend first seizure clinic with the Consultant to offer specialist education and instruction.
• Increase patient satisfaction and provide a competent and seamless service.
• Liaison with medical & therapy staff as well as other hospital, departments and social services in order to ensure timely, appropriate and effective care is delivered.
• Attend the epilepsy surgery MDTM.
• Able to work in nurse led VNS clinic.

The successful applicant will be responsible for the day-to-day provision of clinical pharmacy services to the haematology directorate. This will involve working closely with the haematology team providing specialist advice and ensuring safe and timely supply of medications to inpatients, outpatients, and the chemotherapy day unit. The specialist haematology pharmacists are key members of the multidisciplinary team, attending weekly MDT meetings as well as contributing towards teaching, guideline development and clinical audit.

The post is based within out Pharmacy Technical Services team, providing support to the aseptic unit and acting as an ‘Authorised Pharmacist’ to ensure safe and efficient service delivery. The post holder will be an integral member of the Technical Services team, supporting with the implementation of the action plan from the Assurance of Aseptic Preparation of Medicines audit to continuously develop the service and maintain the unit’s low risk rating. The successful candidate will have previous experience working within Technical Services. You must have completed (or be undertaking) the clinical diploma and be committed to continuing professional development. Summary of responsibilities:
• To be a pharmacy clinical specialist in haematology. To provide support to the haematology service and pharmacy Technical Services.
• To support the clinical pharmacy team in the management and development of specialist clinical services related to haematology in accordance with local and national directives, guidelines and medicines legislation.
• To work closely with clinical specialists and pharmacy staff for the provision of an efficient, co-ordinated and robust pharmaceutical service for clinical haematology. To meet expectation and demands, reduce risks and improve patient safety.
• To participate in the provision of training, mentoring and supervision of pharmacy staff within clinical haematology and Technical Services, in accordance with established policies, procedures and individual requirements.
• To act as an “Authorised Pharmacist”, as delegated by the “Accountable Pharmacist” in accordance with Section 10 exemption of the Medicines Act 1968.
• To provide support to ensure that the Technical Services facilities is compliant with all aspects of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), and all other relevant quality standards.
• To assist with the build and maintenance of the electronic chemotherapy prescribing system (ChemoCare®).
• To be part of the clinical pharmacy service, to inpatient wards and dispensary. To participate in late night, weekend and bank holiday rotas.
