The Opportunity:

The Postdoctoral Research Associate (PDRA) position is to work with Dr Rohit Pillai in the Institute for Multiscale Thermofluids, School of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh. This position is funded by his ERC Starting Grant NANO-COOL (underwritten by the UKRI). This project focuses on developing a computational toolkit to design the next generation of electronics cooling devices. The candidate is expected to have expertise and experience in particle-based computer simulations in the broad area of interfacial phenomena or heat and mass transfer.

This post will focus on: a) running molecular simulations of heat transfer at complex solid/liquid interfaces; and b) extending the application of our recently-developed spectral capabilities to understand and optimise interfacial heat transfer. Our group is broadly interested in computational/theoretical study of nanoscale physics underlying interfacial phenomena, with a focus on engineering applications. We use molecular dynamics, kinetic theory, computational fluid dynamics, and multiscale modelling. Further details about our research group can be found at https://multiscaleflowx.ac.uk. Exceptional research and training opportunities in our research group include:

weekly meetings with PI and regular group meetings to discuss the research progress;
collaborating with a large interdisciplinary network of researchers;
regular opportunities for travel to national/international conferences to present new research;
training and experience in state-of-the-art engineering research software;
exceptional career development opportunities (most of our recent PDRAs have either moved into independent academic roles or won competitive research fellowships by the end of their contract).
Interviews will be held soon after the closing date of the advert, and the position is set to commence in September 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Your skills and attributes for success:

-A track record of high-quality research outputs, including peer-reviewed journal articles.

The School of Engineering seeks to appoint four Research Associates in Causal AI. These Research Associate positions will contribute to the EPSRC funded CHAI AI Hub and the VIOS group at the University of Edinburgh.



We are looking for enthusiastic postdoctoral researchers to join our team led by Prof. Sotirios Tsaftaris (https://vios.science) in the prestigious high-profile CHAI AI Hub [https://www.chai.ac.uk] funded by EPSRC to help us develop new causal AI methods as applied to a variety of healthcare applications co-created within an ecosystem of partners and stakeholders. Our aspiration is to change the future of healthcare precisely because we devise better AI methods rooted in causal.



Areas of particular interest include generative models, representation learning, causal predictive models.



The candidate will:

join a dynamic, international team of several postdocs and students working in AI at the University of Edinburgh –a powerhouse in artificial intelligence, engineering and medicine;
contribute to a national center of excellence where deep learning and AI meets real healthcare data directly addressing industry and societal needs; and
visit and interact with academic partners at Imperial College London, Kings College London, University College London, The University of Manchester and The University of Exeter as well as large body of industry, policy and government stakeholders (more than 50)

We are looking for a postdoctoral research associate for a full-time, fixed term post for 24 months from July 2024 to work as part of the Edinburgh team on the John Templeton Foundation funded project “Functional Communication, Quality of Life, and Human Flourishing,” with Principal Investigator: Dr Dan Mirman (Edinburgh).

The Opportunity:

The focus of your research will be on a mixed methods (qualitative and quantitative) project examining communication strategies in post-stroke aphasia. This project will focus on strategies that people with aphasia use to communicate in real-world settings and will use participatory research principles where the experiences of people with aphasia are a key form of knowledge that will define the research questions and methods.

The role will be based within Psychology, 7 George Square (Central Campus). Opportunities for discussion on informal hybrid workplace arrangements can be discussed at the time of offer, however please note that some on campus working is required.

Your skills and attributes for success:

PhD or equivalent degree in Psychology, Speech Science/Communication Disorders, or related discipline (pending assumed complete can be considered).

Experience in aphasia research, including primary data collection (recruiting and testing participants with aphasia).
