South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture have an award winning Swimming Development programme which delivers high quality lessons in our nine pools. Due to the continued expansion of our programme which currently delivers lessons to around 10,000 people a week, we are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated Lead Swim Teachers who love teaching swimming to a variety of abilities and age groups through out South Lanarkshire Pools.

All successful candidates should have a Scottish Swim Teacher Qualification (SSTQ) or SQA Level 7 and will be expected to apply for PVG Scheme registration and complete induction before commencing any paid work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Set up / take down equipment where required

Ensure regular, relevant communication and feedback with customers/participants and colleagues in relation to all aspects of the programme. Provide management with relevant performance management information.

Plan session or block to be coached ensuring it is of the correct level and standard for the group it is to be delivered to and in line with activity goals

Prepare for and deliver sessions in accordance with Health and Safety guidelines, Normal and Emergency Operating Procedures including Risk Assessments

Deliver a fun, structured and progressive coaching session at the correct level and standard for the group, in-line with the appropriate National Governing Body guidelines

Assist the Swim Development management with staff development and the delivery and development of the programme.

About the school:

Woodhead Primary is situated on the outskirts of Hamilton to the south. The school serves a catchment area comprising private and council housing and covers Woodhead, Meikle Earnock, Torhead Farm, Avon Grove and part of Fairhill.

Our three storey building was officially opened in October 2013 and Phase 2 was completed in June 2019. The school has a MUGA Pitch, enclosed garden area and extensive school grounds to facilitate outdoor learning.

The school has 22 classrooms, a nursery playroom, a tutorial room, multi-purpose conference room, visiting services room, ICT suite, library, a large dining hall, gym hall and a number of break-out areas to enhance teaching and learning. The dining hall is situated on the top floor and the staffroom is on the first floor; both with magnificent views over Hamilton and beyond.

Our current pupil roll is 359 children across 13 classes. The nursery class has capacity for 48 children and we offer 1140 hours of funded early learning and childcare across the year to our nursery pupils.

Glenlee Primary School is situated in Burnbank, Hamilton. We are a 12 class school with a total of 335 pupils. The school also has a nursery that has recently been extended. If you look at photographs of the school, the egg shaped part of the school is where you will find the nursery.

We are fortunate to share the campus with Hamilton School for the Deaf. We strive to learn and work together and to have joint activities.

There has been a Glenlee School on this site for over 100 years. The current building is the third. The first was demolished as it subsided due to mine working in the area. The new build was part of South Lanarkshire Council’s Modernisation programme. It was officially opened on the 12th November 2008 by Councillor David McLachlan, who was a former pupil at the school.

Hamilton School for the Deaf educates and supports deaf children and young people aged 0-18 across South Lanarkshire Council. Hamilton School for the Deaf is a specialist provision, consisting of Nursery and Primary Departments and is specifically for pupils who require a high level of support to develop language and/or alternative communication skills at these stages. A Total Communication approach is used at all times. South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture have an award winning Swimming Development programme which delivers high quality lessons in our nine pools. Due to the continued expansion of our programme which currently delivers lessons to around 10,000 people a week, we are looking for enthusiastic, highly motivated Lead Swim Teachers who love teaching swimming to a variety of abilities and age groups through out South Lanarkshire Pools.

You will have experience of working for a housing organisation or previous Housing Systems experience, as well as a proven track record of identifying training needs across organisations.

Coaching and formal training skills are essential for this role and experience in group facilitation would be useful although not essential. A training qualification is also desirable.
