Manchester Thrive in Education is a Mental Health Support Team (MHST) developed as part of the national project to increase access to psychological support in education settings for children & young people. We were established in 2020 and work closely with partner agencies as part of the getting help offer for child mental health.

The team work within education settings, including colleges to improve the whole setting approach to mental health & emotional wellbeing. We deliver CBT informed interventions for mild to moderate mental health difficulties individually and in groups. We are an innovative team involved in a variety of exciting projects across the city including Autism in Schools.

As an autonomous practitioner you will play a key part in the delivery of high-quality service provision that promotes and improves the mental health and well-being of children and young people, their families, and carers. In an education based team you will provide direct intervention for young people presenting with mild/moderate mental health difficulties within professional practice guidelines and a structured supervision framework.     The post holder willbe requiredto adapt to and undertake different or new duties in line with professional and service developments.

Within a systemic and holistic framework, you will undertake needs led, evidence based, skilled assessments and provide therapeutic interventions, ensuring this is doneevidencingshared decision making and partnership working with children and young people, theirfamiliesand carers. 


As part of working together you willoffer quality consultation and advise to schoolsand support schools in developing their Whole school Approach to mental health and emotional wellbeing. We are inviting applicants for the post of Clinical Research Fellow in Urogynaecology. Candidates should be highly motivated to undertake a postgraduate degree and they will be expected to register (and self-fund) an MPhil with the University of Manchester, with the potential to convert this to an MD degree, depending on academic progress. These are also clinical posts and candidates should be at a level expected of an ST3+ trainee. The split between academic and clinical time is 60%/40%. Candidates who are successful at interview will be expected to apply for Out of Program Research (OOPR) if they are currently in a training post.



This post is ideally suited towards candidates considering future subspecialty training in urogynaecology, whilst maintaining clinical skills through working in busy tertiary and secondary care settings.

The Research post will involve a mixed methods evaluation of women who have sustained complications of polypropylene mesh. There will be a qualitative study to understand their lived experience of mesh complications. There will also be an observational study which will investigate the potential cause of the pain some women experience following polypropylene mesh continence procedures.

The Clinical Research Fellow will be supervised by a team of consultants. The Clinical Research Fellow will need to respect the roles of others within a multidisciplinary team and communicate with them appropriately.

The weekly timetable will vary from week to week. The clinical component may include sessions in Urogynaecology outpatients, urogynaecology theatre and ward rounds, or other specialist sessions. Research days are usually fixed.

We’re looking for a full time Band 6 Senior Clinical Research Nurse to support and deliver clinical research studies at Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).

Expert Lead Cardiac Physiologist / Scientist - Echocardiography Education & Research

We are looking for an enthusiastic, committed, dynamic individual to lead education and research in our echocardiography department.

The applicant must be working as an expert independent clinical practitioner who provides clinical expertise at an expert specialist level and have experience with teaching at both local and national level.

Candidates will be required to assist the departmental management team in providing strategic management leadership. They must have the ability to work under pressure, prioritise their own workload, and work as part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality diagnostic services.

The candidate will develop training plans and deliver educational content at both undergraduate and post graduate level. They will also plan, co-ordinate and participate in multi-disciplinary research activity and provide a level of support to the Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility.

This position offers excellent developmental opportunities and requires the individual to be a positive driver for change within cardiac diagnostic services at MFT.

Provide leadership and development for all practitioners in the Cardiac Physiology Department, particularly in echocardiography.

As an expert in the field of education, provide education to external institutions, inclusive of primary care and all professional bodies within Cardiology.

Exercise initiative and judgement in solving problems and making decisions that affect own areas of work recognising when there is a need to refer problems to Senior Management or Consultant staff.

Independently collates complex clinical information from multiple sources to determine optimal procedure methodology.

Independently obtains and analyses complex data, performs complex calculations, determines interpretation and independently compiles accurate written complex technical reports for case notes.

Communicates independent interpretations of complex technical & physiological data to guide physicians throughout high risk provocative procedures (e.g. during complex device implantation, primary coronary angioplasty, cardiac imaging procedures).

Analyses highly complex data, performs complex calculations, determines interpretation and independently compiles accurate written complex technical reports for case notes.

Regularly supervises individuals working/observing in the clinical environment including visitors from other trusts and organisation.

The fundamental purpose of NIHR Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT) HealthTech Research Centre (HRC) is to transform urgent and emergency care by developing and deploying new technologies for the detection, diagnosis and monitoring of disease and embedding these technologies in the way that health and care services look after patients. MFT-HRC will bring together companies, NHS clinicians, academics, the public and patients to test and commercialise new healthcare technologies aimed at improving urgent and emergency care in the community and the hospital. Working within the Innovation team, the post holder will be expected to drive the delivery of the MFT-HRC programme, theme projects and objectives, and arising projects with commercial partners, whilst developing and implementing processes and systems to manage project information.

Are you an experienced and enthusiastic speech and language therapist looking to join our innovative service supporting adults with learning disabilities.

What do we aim for?

You will provide specialist speech and language therapy to people with a range of learning disabilities and associated problems e.g. sensory impairments, mental health problems and physical disabilities, in their homes, colleges, local communities, day centres and work places.

You will receive one to one clinical support, professional development and regular supervision. Giving you the opportunity to further develop your skills in a variety of clinical areas such as AAC, dysphagia management, complex health needs, autism, risky behaviours, access to internal and external courses and much more.

We currently have access to specialist IT systems to help support and get the most out of our patients. These systems include Boardmaker, Grid 3.

You will be working alongside a multi-disciplinary team which is made up of physiotherapy, clinical psychology, community nursing, occupational therapy and social workers.

As a multi-disciplinary team you will also work with colleagues in the wider LCO, acute and paediatric services across the trust. You will also work with colleagues from a variety of other agencies e.g. Adult and children’s Social Care, Greater Manchester Police, Pure Innovations, carer forums.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team within the Community Adult Learning Disability Team, providing specialist speech and language therapy to adults with mild, moderate, severe and profound learning disabilities, including both communication and dysphagia.

Work will be undertaken in a variety of settings depending on the needs of the clients and carers. Our client basis is socially, culturally and linguistically diverse.

You will take responsibility for devising, monitoring and evaluating specialist programmes of care for other professionals and/or carers to carry out.

You will work flexibly to manage own time efficiently to, for example plan and organise activities, prioritise tasks to meet deadlines, balance project and client based work.

We are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual who can contribute to the development of research within the MFT Vaccine Research Team .The Team facilitates and supports the delivery of vaccine clinical trials . Most of the time these studies have high recruitment targets , therefore we expect you to work autonomously and be flexible to meet the demands.

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to join the Research and Innovation Genetics Research Team, based at Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine, St Mary’s Hospital, to support the delivery of genetic research studies, with a particular focus on Genetic Eye studies. The postholder will be joining a diverse team of researchers who are making a difference to the future of care in the NHS. We are seeking a candidate with excellent communication skills and experience of working in a patient facing role in a research environment. The post holder will ideally be trained in clinical skills including venepuncture.

The postholder will be responsible for discussing research opportunities with potential study participants, taking informed consent, planning and organising day to day research activities, collecting study data, collecting biological samples (including venepuncture and saliva samples), maintaining site files, liaising with study sponsors and the Research Office.

The post will require working with a wide range of people and working across teams; therefore, an excellent team orientated approach is essential as will excellent organisational and communication skills and an ability to plan and undertake work independently and efficiently.

The postholder will be responsible for supporting research projects on the NIHR CRN genetics portfolio and other related studies at Manchester Centre for Genomic Medicine.

Key duties include (but not limited to):
• To implement and carry out procedures to ensure the team is compliant with the principles of Good Clinical Practice, the Research Governance Framework and all regulatory legislation in their day-to-day practice.
• Obtain informed consent from participants for qualitative or non CTIMP trials as deemed appropriate and delegated to do so.
• Identify and recruit participants into clinical trials, assisting in the management, coordination and facilitation of the concurrent trials ensuring recruitment targets are met.
• Contribute to appropriate data collection and to monitor data in accordance with the research protocol and standard operating procedures.
• Maintain participant follow up in the form of telephone/ face to face contact for data collection ensuring study visit timescales are adhered to.
