What does the role involve?

The people we support being involved in the planning of their support, Reducing, or removing the reasons for behaviours of concern. It focusses on being Pro-active rather than Reactive.
The nature of the role requires the postholder to demonstrate active listening and the ability to employ positive, calm, and clear communication. You should be able to support in stressful situations, you will need to remain calm and in control whilst supporting the service user in the least restrictive and most respectful way.
The PBS Support Worker will be responsible for ensuring that current guidance is adhered to, including risk assessments, support plans, PBS plans and other forms of behaviour assessment/observation and intervention management as indicated by the Behaviour Advisor. The post holder will also be required to ensure that all requested/required documentation is completed and returned and to work with the Behaviour Advisor and other professionals to ensure a holistic approach. To coach and support staff to successfully embed the principles of positive behaviour support. To work independently under the supervision of the Behaviour Advisor and within the overall framework of policies and procedures.
What skills do I need?
We are looking for candidates with experience of working with adults with a learning disability and/or autism who are able to manage behaviours of concern. Good communication and interpersonal skills are important for this post; as you will be required to work with a range of professionals as well as families and carers.
Knowledge of positive behaviour support interventions is important as well as an understanding of social care in particular in relation to safeguarding practice.

About the role

We are looking for a Residential Support Worker to work at specialist residential services across the region, specialising in autism, speech and language disorders, moderate to severe learning difficulties and associated behavioural difficulties.

Hours: 7.30am – 8.30pm, on a rolling rota of 3 shifts on and 3 shifts off pattern.

This is a Childrens Residential Support Worker positon and as such you will need experience of supporting Children with learning disabilities.

As a Support Worker, you will safeguard the residents, maintain confidentiality at all times and promote independence and choice.

You must be able to communicate effectively across teams, completing detailed handovers, as well as with the young people themselves, adopting their preferred communication styles.

The role will include, undertaking regular checks throughout the night and completing paperwork to a high standard as well as delivering personal care.
