The Medical Support Assistant works at the Biloxi VAMC Office of Community Care. The duties of the Medical Support Assistant may include but are not limited to:

• Participates in team huddles to manage, plan, problem solve, and follow-up with Veteran care by sharing information and collaborating with the interdisciplinary team;
• Identifies incomplete authorizations and communicates with OCC team and PACT providers;

• Uses automated tracking tools as well as computers to perform a wide variety of recordkeeping, correspondence, tracking operations is required;
• Educates providers and team members about patient's medical care by e-mails, fax, telephone and scanning medical documentation into Veterans' electronic medical records;
• Supports the maintenance of electronic databases to track OCC consults;
• Demonstrates a high level of flexibility, teamwork, and multi-faceted skills by cross-training to other areas within OCC to provide coverage as needed.

This Medical Support Assistant (Advanced), also referred to as an Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) position serves as a Consult Coordinator for Community Care. The AMSA works collaboratively with other members of expanded health care teams (i.e., Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT), specialty care) including Community Care providers, pharmacists, social workers, dieticians, behavioral health staff, etc. to provide a robust interdisciplinary approach to care. Important interfaces and collaborations also occur with larger health care system providers including VA and non-VA specialists, hospitals, diagnostic and treating facilities, and community-based programs.

The primary duties of the Medical Support Assistant (Advanced) may include but are not limited to:

• Maintaining appointment schedules for Community Care.
• Communicating with Community Care providers to ensure they accept VA patients and payments.
• Preparing any required pre-appointment documents.
• Scheduling the appropriate level of care and documents the schedule in the appropriate consult.
• Obtaining medical documentation from community providers.
• Scanning the appropriate consult within the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS) and alerts VA providers for continuity of care.
• Coordinating internal and external care between customers and providers.
• Processing consults following Office of Community Care procedures and guidelines and enters appropriate authorizations, if required, utilizing the correct Fund Control Point (FCP)/Obligation number and correct cost estimations.
• Supporting patient safety standards using the correct Veterans Affairs identification of all patients using two forms of identification, name and Social Security Number.
• Using each interaction with the patient to validate and update patient demographic information, over the phone, to decrease the incidence of returned mail due to incorrect addresses and inability to contact patient by phone due to incorrect number.
• Collecting, scanning, and updating health insurance information.
• Scheduling Veteran appointments with community providers using VistA or other software scheduling options.
• Using established business rules to schedule appointment for Veterans which includes clinic visits, consultations, and entries into the Recall Reminder system and Electronic Wait List (EWL).
• Complying with the mandatory training requirements for the outpatient scheduling processes.
• Ensuring all appointments are scheduled timely and the provider and patient's desired dates are met.
• Consistently communicates and treats customers (patients, visitors, volunteers, and all Medical Center staff) in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
• Providing the customers with consistent information according to established policies and procedures.
• Handling conflicts and problems in dealing with the customer constructively and appropriately.

Duties include but are not limited to:

• Remain current on administrative medical scheduling processes to understand current scheduling processes, home monitoring, care services, and make modifications to scheduled actions as needed to insure optimum utilization of service resources and Veteran care.
• Meet customers' needs; consistently communicate and treat Veterans, their representatives, visitors, and staff in a courteous and respectful manner; sharing consistent information according to established policies and procedure, while handling conflict and concerns constructively and appropriately.

As a POWERED SUPPORT SYSTEMS MECHANIC, WG-5378-10, you will perform duties involving the maintenance and repair of power ground and other support equipment used in aircraft servicing and repairs. This position requires military membership. It is designated for an ARNG Enlisted incumbent only. In accordance with DA Pamphlet 611-21, the incumbent performs duties necessary to accomplish Powered Support Systems functions in support of programs essential to state ARNG daily operations, training, and readiness missions.

-- Responsible for the Ground Support Equipment maintenance program, inventory control, and the identification and scheduling of preventive maintenance requirements for ground support equipment. Troubleshoots deficiencies and repairs flight critical equipment including lifting devices, turbine powered generators, towing devices and auxiliary power units.

-- Trouble-shoots, repairs; services; performs modifications on, and operates powered ground support equipment such as AC and DC power generators, air compressors, blowers, heaters, portable lighting units, deicers and non-powered equipment to include work stands, jacks, ramps, tow-bars, etc. Trouble-shoots equipment and determines the extent of repairs as well as the parts required. The authorized level of maintenance includes troubleshooting, tune-ups and adjustments of internal combustion and turbine engines, fuel controls, carburetors, clutch linkage, brakes and other mechanical links that utilize common hand tools and a variety of test equipment.

-- Performs required preventive maintenance and servicing of equipment including repairing and replacing tires, lubrication, oil changes, replacing air, fuel and oil filters, checking fluid levels; and adjusting or replacing ignition parts, hoses, v-belts, and other items. Keeps equipment clean and free from dirt, oil, grease and corrosion. Periodically observes the operation of equipment to detect problems. Maintains records and equipment log books.

-- Performs major system component overhaul/rebuild, repair/replacement and troubleshooting as needed, to include but not limited to, power-plant systems, brake systems, steering systems, hydraulic systems, diesel and gas systems, air systems, starting systems, ignition systems and electrical systems in addition to the following components, power-plant, brake, fuel, steering, hydraulic, air, starting, ignition and electrical system.

Requirements:

• Associate's degree required; Bachelor's degree in related area is strongly preferred
