Role Overview

The visual journalist / front end developer role at Malaysiakini combines data analysis, front-end web development for data visualisation and interactive journalism. You will work with the award-winning Kini News Lab team on digital and interactive storytelling, leveraging your technical skills in HTML, JavaScript and CSS, and data visualization tools, alongside your creative and journalistic instincts for impactful storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

Front-End Development, Data Analysis & Visualization

• Build and maintain interactive web-based data visualisations and tools for Malaysiakini’s digital stories.

Journalism & Storytelling

Required Skills & Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Computer Science, Data Science, or related fields.
• Experience: 5+ years in journalism, front-end development, or a data-driven role.
• Proven experience in web development technologies including HTML, CSS, JavaScript. Frameworks such as Svelte or React would be advantageous, willingness to learn is crucial.
• Strong proficiency in data analysis and visualisation tools and ability to craft compelling narratives based on data insights.

Requirements:

1. Bachelor's degree in Law.
2. At least 3 years of experience in corporate recovery & insolvency practice.
3. In-depth knowledge of corporate law, commercial transactions, mergers and acquisitions, contract law, regulatory compliance, and corporate governance principles.
4. Familiar with SSM, LHDN, insolvency compliance, accounting standards, tax laws, and filing procedures.
5. Exceptional report writing skills, with the ability to create clear, concise, and informative documents.
6. Ability to manage multiple cases and meet tight deadlines.
