The communications officer will be responsible for producing and supporting internal and external corporate communications throughout the Trust as part of the communications and engagement team.
The role includes developing relationships with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders such as staff, trust members, patient groups, governors, community groups, local commissioners and other integrated care service partners, and media, working alongside colleagues at all levels of seniority, internally and externally.
The post holder will be involved specifically in the communications and engagement work supporting the New Hospital Project (NHP) and the wider capital and estates (C&E) programmes.

• Actively promote the trust’s values and act as an ambassador and advocate for the Trust in all duties and responsibilities.
• Source and create good news material and stories for local, national and specialist media to help raise the profile and reputation of the trust – this includes writing press releases, managing any press calls, photo / filming opportunities and interviews.
• Source and create material for staff and other internal audiences to increase engagement and understanding of the trust’s business and objectives.
• Create key messages for the media and a standardised approach to managing social media/website content relating to the NHP and other C&E work programmes.
• Maintain and develop content for a dedicated website.
• Help to develop new opportunities with social and digital media to promote and benefit the Trust.
• Help to devise and run social media campaigns on relevant subjects with support from your manager and the rest of the team.
• Support the C&E programme team to develop comms resources to support wider briefings and reports to an array of key stakeholders.
• Design and write content for a variety of internal and external communications channels to support the NHP and C&E work, providing content for all audiences, integrating these channels to make best use of resources available.
• Work with the wider team to manage VIP visits and major events.
• Act as a host for media on site and ensure that their presence is managed in a way that does not disrupt the trust’s core business and that trust policies are observed.
• Assist the communications manager in preparing for upcoming issues and potential issues that could affect the trust’s reputation.
• Prepare media statements when requested and ensure effective mechanisms are in place to brief appropriate stakeholders when media coverage is expected. Work as part of a wider directorate to maximise opportunities for all activities including engagement or community involvement.
• Be cognisant of and sensitive to the department’s budgetary challenges as a publicly funded organisation, liaising with managers in the team over all matters involving costs and resourcing.
• Develop and maintain effective working relationships between the trust and local, national and specialist media.
• Support the creation of a monthly stakeholder briefing, managing all aspects of the process from information gathering, editing and design to distribution and follow-up. Take part in an out of hours on call rota for communications support as required, including as a responder to major incidents.
• Provide active communications support at a senior level in relation to all major strategic developments
